19.01.2022 On his first time back preaching for a while after our extended series of visiting preachers, our pastor, Nathan Nettleton, addressed some big questions about the relationship of our formation as followers of Jesus, and the health and wellbeing of the planet.
18.01.2022 In her excellent sermon in the SYCBaps Cyber Chapel tonight, Suzanne Ross from the Raven Foundation showed us how Jesus's parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids, so often used as an exhortation to "be good" has been read upside down so that Jesus's real point gets missed.
15.01.2022 Here in Australia, many of us have very little experience of the great tradition of African-American preaching, beyond old recordings of the Revd Dr Martin Luther King jnr. Well, this Sunday we are excited to have Chalice Overy as our visiting preacher, an outstanding example of the new generation emerging in this tradition. And coming from North Carolina, one of the knife-edge states in the recent presidential election, you can bet that the prophetic call for political and social justice in the name of God will be given voice. 12.01.2022 This Sunday we are thrilled to welcome the wonderful Irish poet and theologian, Pádraig Ó Tuama, as our guest preacher, joining us live from his home in Ireland. Pádraig presents Poetry Unbound with On Being, and writes about conflict, theology and language. No stranger to Australia, he lived here for four years, and has visited many times in the ensuing 20 years. Click through for details if you'd like to join us to hear him.
12.01.2022 Last night's sermon uncovered evidence that some parts of the Bible are toxic cover-ups, serving only the interests of powerful religious leaders, and not the interests of the people. But it also showed us how Jesus teaches us to recognise the contagious "leaven" of these cover-ups, and reclaim the truth of a God who unfailingly loves and liberates us.
11.01.2022 We were privileged last night to have Brooke Prentis - an Aboriginal Christian leader and CEO of Common Grace - as our visiting preacher in the Cyber Chapel. Preaching from Leviticus 25, she opened our eyes to the way the Biblical teachings of land care through Sabbath and Jubilee practices aligns closely with traditional Aboriginal teachings on the care of country. Great stuff.
09.01.2022 One of the best sermons on marriage, divorce and singleness you could ever wish to hear was preached in the SYCBaps Cyber Chapel last night by Lina Toth from the Scottish Baptist College in Glasgow. If you missed it, click through to catch up on it now, and let us know if you agree.
07.01.2022 Another small opportunity to listen to the deep wisdom of first nations peoples, this time from the Amazon.
06.01.2022 Lina Toth enchanted us with her accent and her deep and encouraging insights into our journey into the life of God when she preached for us at Pentecost. This Sunday we are delighted to welcome her back for return visit to the pulpit of our Cyber Chapel. Click through for details if you'd like to join us for the occasion.
04.01.2022 The coming Sunday, we are greatly looking forward to having Suzanne Ross from the Raven Foundation as our visiting preacher. Click through for details on how to join us for the event.
02.01.2022 Sunday night's sermon explored the tendency we have to baulk at paying the price of change, not matter how abundant the promised fruits of that change may be.
01.01.2022 Sunday night's sermon from Irish poet and theologian, Pádraig Ó Tuama, was astonishingly good. From a couple of seemingly bizarre passages of scripture, he drew forth great wisdom and challenge, leading us directly to Jesus and to the message of Jesus for the wounds of the world we are living in right now. If you missed it on Sunday, don't miss the chance to revisit it now.
01.01.2022 At this coming Sunday's worship service in the SYCBaps Cyber Chapel, we are honoured to have Brooke Prentis as our visiting preacher. Click through for details if you'd like to join us for the occasion.
