23.01.2022 For all those who have been following baby Barry Bushka on fb, messenger, text and phone. We're not out of the woods yet, but we've made it to 24 hours old. Such a long 24 hours it has been. Huge thank you to Suzie from Lancefield Equine Clinic for the visits, the phone calls, messages and round the clock support. To all our friends and family checking in throughout the day. To the Rescue20 family who are sharing this journey for all the highs and lows. And Ryan for his unwav...ering support, sleeping next to me in the ute, being kicked by the foal while I milk the mare and wearing the wet foal sneezes. Barry has started to drink a little more, albeit via his preferred 5ml syringe which is a painfully slow process. At 24 hours old he has finally, reluctantly given the bottle a try... but he's not ready to give up his 5ml syringe comfort just yet I don't think he'll ever drink from mum, but she's being beyond amazing. Long, sleepless road ahead for all

22.01.2022 MARE FOCUS - SOVEREIGN BELLE We so often post the boys of Sovereign Acres, particularly their achievements. With breeding and foaling season upon us, I'd like to take a minute to appreciate the mares we cherish in the background. The mare is genetically 50% of any foal and many breeders will agree that the mare seems to influence offspring much more than that. A 60/40 ratio is quite widely accepted. With this in mind, our paddocks are graced with a group of mares that have be...en very carefully selected for the specific qualities they can contribute. We look for type, conformation, temperament and movement, holding each of these attributes equally important. Above and beyond that is the additional factor that can only be defined as my "eye for a horse", and this is where everyone is so very different and no one is "correct". Pictured is just one of my hand picked mares. I will be the first to admit that she is probably not everyone's cup of tea. However, beyond the unusual colour and less popular breeding, I found in her a sweet, compact mare with correct conformation and surprising movement. As they say, "a good horse is never a bad colour". See more

13.01.2022 Day 3 Baby Barry Bushka could almost be mistaken for a "normal" foal. In celebration of reaching this milestone, he had his first outing into the paddock to stretch his legs and had an absolute ball. Look forward to sharing some pics when time permits.

11.01.2022 Just like that, with daylight savings, breeding season is upon us. The main man covered his first mare for 2020 on Sunday and like clockwork she teased negative today. Fingers crossed for a positive result in 15 days. At the other end of the operation, our only mare bred to him last season has started to spring. She will be 340 days on 19th November. Can't wait to meet my Pally, Half Arabian Filly

10.01.2022 Happiest sight to see After tears, frustration, despair and serious lack of sleep, dedication looks to be winning. Nearly 48 hours of not giving up on this little man, he just had his first drink from mum. We will continue to monitor them through the night and coming days, but everything crossed, not being tied to two hourly bottle/syringe feeds might mean a chance of a little sleep

10.01.2022 After an exceptionally shaky start, Baby Barry is really starting to come into his own. Starting to wish he wasn't a midget.

08.01.2022 AMAZING PROGRESS! We are officially a bottle drinker and having huge meals for a tiny tacker. He even kicked me in the chest for milking mumma and wanted to try and have a go. We might get there. Never say never. As you can see, Mumma is finally actively interested, this is the most affection she has shown since licking him clean after birth.

07.01.2022 Precious cargo en route from Artes Warmbloods

06.01.2022 Even being a paddock bum, he's still a bit special

02.01.2022 By special request for daily cuteness, here's a quick video of the little red boy who could... volume up to hear Barry talking

02.01.2022 A good colt, about to become a GREAT gelding

01.01.2022 So much bling! Chestnut Welsh colt born at 11.30pm. Swift, trouble free foaling. Unfortunately maiden mare is not quite sure about motherhood and boy child is a bit slow to work things out... In the stable for some bonding. Going to be a long, sleepless night of monitoring their progress.

01.01.2022 RESCUE A RESCUE PLEASE CONSIDER (If you are not a reader, please skip to the end, follow the links to our supported rescues and consider adopting your new partner in crime.) Pictured is SNIP who is in URGENT need of his own human (Rescue20) With skyrocketing horse prices and less scrupulous vendors taking advantage of the created seller’s market, there is an often overlooked avenue for finding your new best friend and NOW is the time to really explore it. Of course, there...Continue reading
