25.01.2022 Congratulations to our student Andre for participating in the internal piano competition at Brisbane Grammar School and won the first place for his section (Piano Grade 2 to 3). The school invited the former Director of the Queensland Conservatorium - Professor Peter Roennfeldt to be the adjudicator and he gave Andre some encouraging and helpful comments. Andre loves modern repertoire and is also learning violin and drums. Keep up the good work!
23.01.2022 We’re getting ready! Are you all ready?? #SowingMusic2020
22.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and grandfathers out there I can’t count how many times my students told me they wanted to learn a particular piece because their dad inspired them to. Some dads aren’t musical but they encourage and cheer for their children no matter what they try and play on the piano. This is the encouragement that keeps them motivated and move forward. Thank you our best DAD!!
22.01.2022 Quynh performed When I Grow Up (from the musical Matilda) in our student concert last year. Her performance was voted by our students as the third most favourite performance. I really enjoyed guiding Quynh in preparing for this performance. She likes music from musicals and pop culture. A lot of times she would tell me what songs she likes and we would look up the internet to find the lyrics and analyse the song together to decide on chords and accompaniment patterns. Honestly this was the one performance that really touched me and made me almost cry last year. Music is such a powerful thing! Hope you’ll also enjoy Quynh’s performance.
21.01.2022 Thank you to all our students for showing so much love to our assistant Mr Truffle. He is now old enough to be alone by himself but whenever there are piano lessons he would still walk near the teaching studio and lie down quietly outside to listen to the music our students make. I’m proud to see Truffle grow listening to all your piano music!
20.01.2022 The second most voted performance from our student concert 2019 was Notturno - Edvard Grieg played by Peter. Check out our last video on our page if you missed out what the most favourite performance was! Peter also presented this piece in his recent piano exam and his performance was highly commended by the examiner as one of the best interpretations she had ever seen! Well done Peter!
19.01.2022 Since finishing the piano exam, Sophia wanted to learn something different so she took up the challenge to learn playing and singing Wings by Delta Goodrem. She got to explore different piano technique in pop style. In the video, she was only reading off the lyric sheet and playing the chords according to what we discussed and decided. Being able to read and play with lead sheet symbols is an important skill to have as a pianist and it will open up a lot more opportunities and fun in the music journey. I especially like teaching students who like singing to learn this technique. Wings is a powerful song and not an easy song to start with but Sophia certainly did well!
15.01.2022 Sharing with you Pieczonka’s Tarantella performed by our student Peter, who recently completed AMEB Grade 6 piano exam with High Distinction and presented this piece as one of the extra lists. Tarantella is a folk dance originated in Southern Italy usually with fast upbeat tempo and high energy. Hope you enjoy this performance #Tarantella... #Pieczonka #AMEB See more
14.01.2022 The clock is ticking! Less than a week until our very first mini studio concert this coming Sunday. It’s a tough year in 2020 but let’s end it with some fun and wonderful music! This mini concert will only allow for students to participate and the concert will be broadcast live on this Facebook page so all our families and friends can still watch and share the special moments with our students at the same time. Please stay tuned for more details #SowingMusic2020
13.01.2022 Another performance from our student concert last year. Lynne’s performance "Canon in D (Piano duet)" also received a lot of votes from other students as their favourite performance. If you know Lynne’s journey, you’ll be so proud of her for this performance. She is definitely one of the most hard working students in my studio. She practices everyday and would travel with her keyboard in order not to miss any practices. For every of her performance piece, she can play perf...ectly in her lessons way ahead of the concert. However she has a lot of anxiety when it comes to public performance, she would have shaky hands, shaky feet and even palpitation. Usually students with such anxiety would avoid any possible public performances, but she has been so determined to overcome this so we had a lot of pretend performance before this real one. At the start of this performance, Lynne was so nervous and lost the whole bar (at a place where she never had made a mistake) but she tried her best to re-focus and finally she made it to the end! You can’t imagine how much joy she had for being able to end this performance well on stage! We’re so proud of her! See more
13.01.2022 One of the recent works done by my wedding baker. How satisfying to see the black & white key patterns of the piano are actually accurate and it is looking so real! Has anyone had a piano or music themed cake before?
12.01.2022 We just had our grand piano tuned on Monday, getting ready for the mini studio concert on Sunday! #sowingmusic2020
11.01.2022 Adding one more to the list Practice the piano 30+ mins
10.01.2022 It is deeply saddening to know the sudden passing of the very talented Australian composer, educator and pianist Sonny Chua. It is a huge loss to the whole music world. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. Many of our students enjoyed playing and performing Sonny’s compositions over the years. Many have been inspired by the technical challenges and imaginative character in his music. As a teacher, I always find joy in teaching his music and am constantly amazed by his gift of composing! Thank you Sonny, you will be missed!
09.01.2022 Congratulations to all the students who recently participated in piano exams! It was a busy and a little stressful month in July as we had sent nine students (from Preliminary grade to Grade 7) to sit in the piano exams held by the Australian Music Examinations Board. With all the craziness and uncertainty of this year - lessons being online for many weeks and changes of all the school activities and routines, I’m so thrilled to see our students still tried their very best... and did exceptionally well! All students passed with good grades with encouraging and constructive comments, with 6 of them even received High Distinction (A+)! I always say music is subjective, the exam grades only reflect how the students perform on that particular day in front of that particular examiner. But more importantly I can see every single of them has improved, in terms of their performance skill, confidence level, musicality and resilience as a musician. I can’t express how proud I’m of all of them! Well done! #AMEB #SowingMusic2020
09.01.2022 This is a piece to be played at night... Stars by Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe. Our student Rachel played this piece in her recent piano exam and received some encouraging comments, Some most effective segments in this performance. Liked your greater personal engagement with this music and the varied palette of dynamic colours. Have a good night guys! #AMEB #pianoexam... #Grade7 #Series18 #petersculthorpe See more
07.01.2022 The Frightful Night by Melody Bober performed by the sibling piano duet won the most votes for My favourite performance from our student concert last year. Well done Xavier and Sophia! While we may not be able to hold our concert this year, let’s enjoy some of the performances from our past student concert in the coming weeks.
02.01.2022 More good news from our students happened in Term 3. Well done Eric, Nadia, Hayley and Quynh!
02.01.2022 I’ve discovered the very expressive side of our young student Anh today! Just before this version was recorded she was still playing rigidly to the beat like a metronome. I told her to listen to the melody and imagine how she would sing this as a song but on the piano. Then there you go we got this really expressive version! When we finished playing I invited Anh’s sister to watch this video performance together, we all couldn’t help but smile at each other at the end a...s this was such a beautiful performance! Sometimes the simplest melody can be the best way for expression and for students to explore their own musical voice. Hope you enjoy Anh’s interpretation of this piano piece by Piano Safari. #Pianosafari #dandelionfluff
