10.05.2022 Can you believe this is a painting and not a photo?!! This stunning piece is by the incredibly talented Leila Ashtiani, a commissioned piece by a horse lover. The skill involved in this painting is simply spectacular - we are all awestruck! Leila will be one of the many artists exhibiting their artworks and sculptures at the Art of Belonging exhibition at Space2b in June.... Keep posted here for more sneak peeks of the upcoming work - or even better come in in-person and meet Leila yourself at the exhibition opening on 15th June at Space2b - 144 Chapel st. Join us afterwards at our Q&A with Tasneem Chopra held immediately after. The talk will be held just across the road from our Balaclava location. @leila ashtiani artist

20.01.2022 Here is a sneaky glimpse of Susie Raz’s entry into our Heads High Competition - a portrait of our friend and Wathaurong artist Stan Yarramunua, ‘Yarra’. . . Susie Raz is a self-taught artist who developed her own style, framing much of her work around Charles Blackman’s work. ... She comes from a refugee background and grew up in Israel. One of Susies major works was a different painting of Yarramunua (featured) and was a finalist in the Percival Portrait prize, Townsville. Susie says ‘Art is about giving people a voice’. She heard about Heads High and loved the concept. So with a passion for asylum seekers & refugees she entered. Susie is also currently working on a Major refugee project with universal reference to the global experience of refugees. . #headshighspace2b @susie.raz @stan_yarramunua

19.01.2022 DAY 29 Space2bCreates: Original Acrylic on wood panel artwork by Mitch AVAILABLE ONLINE:... shop.space2b.com.au/product-category/space2b-creates Frida-lesque ($295) & The Rose Dress ($320) + Postage Acrylic on wood panel, ready for hanging Size of work: 30cms x 30cms This year has been so difficult for everyone, and devastating for me personally. I lost my sister very suddenly in May . She was my closest friend. My soulmate. The void she has left in my life constantly takes my breath away. This lock down has been emotionally isolating for me, but also a time to block out the world and deal with my grief. Initially this took a toll on my art practice - I could not even pick up a paintbrush, but slowly I have been finding small moments of peace in my studio and exploring themes of the human condition in my painting . I have noticed my most recent work has an element of melancholy and introspection but the two pieces shown here are from an earlier easier time and still have a light and whimsical feel. Mitch Vane. I am a local Melbourne artist and I work from home in my studio. I have worked in many areas of art and design but probably best known for my children's book illustrations . My cartoons appeared alongside Danny Katz's column in The Age for many years, and our Little Lunch books have been made into a highly successful TV series for ABC3. I divide my time between illustrating books and my art practice, but this year I have had a lot more studio time to explore my favourite themes of sexuality, identity, and belonging. You can see my current ongoing artworks on my Instagram page. www.mitchvane.com @mitchvane_art https://shop.space2b.com.au/product-catego/space2b-creates/ Kindly supported by Palais Theatre https://www.facebook.com/139028056119855/
