25.01.2022 What a lovely reminder of this very favourite ensuite from @faucetstrommen today! . The project started with simply repainting the interiors, and designing a new kitchen... by the end of the renovation there wasn't one surface of the house untouched... that happens sometimes, and with the best and most trusting clients this is the outcome! The main suite in this home was tragically configured, unfunctional and just plain ugly, but with a few tweaks [read moving walls and ser...vices] this was the result - a beautifully proportioned and functional space with all the amenity our clients had requested. . 22.01.2022 One of my all-time favourites... In designing this kitchen, we were essentially limited to the existing footprint and basic services layout within its own little envelope. Not a huge space - they dont need to be big to be great remember - but with elegant design solutions we more than doubled the storage and efficiency. Its now a truly beautiful room in which you want to be, and to spend time... Our clients can now enjoy a beautiful, light-filled inner garden courtyard as well as a fully functional transit between rooms... . 21.01.2022 Nesting at home is the current vibe... I see great opportunities for lots of reading - Im looking at you stack of books beside my bed; and learning something new!! Isaac Newton (the founder of modern physics and mathematics) was a 22 year old student at Trinity College, Cambridge and was quarantined in 1665 when the Great Plague of London hit (it would be another 200 years before scientists discovered the bacteria that causes plague - Yersinia pestis - but even without under...standing germ theory, they instituted some of the same sensible precautions we are now, to avoid disease transmission and illness). During his 12 months of quarantine, he developed what was to become the basis of his seminal theories on motion and gravity; optics and calculus... Use this time wisely. Be kind to each other, wash your hands and keep your distance... know that it will pass. 10.01.2022 Icelandic memories. Always in the back of my mind... the beauty and loneliness of this extraordinary country are hard to shake... . This is the Black Church at Buir on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Originally built in 1703, the current iteration bears the original door latch engraved with that date. Near by is the only other building for miles; Hotel Buir. Both set amidst lava fields overlooking a fierce and black ocean. 05.01.2022 We love to discreetly light walk in robes... but the positioning is crucial... no-one wants to be blinded by lights at the front of the robes big mistake! If you can, position them directly above the rails, or towards the rear... even better, if you can, use rails that have a built-in LED strip to the underside. Hit me up by dm if you want the details on these game-changing bad boys!! And always install with a pressure switch so they turn on when you open the doors - keepin...g life uncomplicated! . This subtle oak-lined robe was a tricky space to work with, and in order to maximise utility we custom designed the hanging rails to accommodate our clients requirements... and then powdercoated them a beautiful aged brass. 05.01.2022 This beautiful project encapsulates so much of what I consider important in design... Bozens Cottage in Oatlands, Tasmania by @taylorandhindsarchitects . The gentle and respectful re-imagining of a simple Georgian cottage with beauty and restraint. The retention of existing materials which are entwined with beautiful new elements is masterful, and I see the eye of the designers and the hands of the craftspeople involved, as well as the strong custodianship of the owners who... commissioned such work. 01.01.2022 This space from the 2020 product launch by @menuspace feels like it's been lifted straight out of my head... I've been wistfully dreaming of something exactly like this for my own home... not my lovely, sparse mid-century home with walls of windows - literally, no walls, just windows - that I live in currently. But another, bolt-holey kind of retreat in the bush... I had always envisioned an A frame, which I think came from my childhood dreams... but now it's morphed into som...ething more spacious and less restricted. I need more light than an A frame allows, but love the cosy feels of these sloped walls and dormer windows.
