08.01.2022 At least 30,000 people seeking protection in Australia will run out of food - and cannot afford to buy more. With the help of Spade & Barrow, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) Food Justice Truck is improving the food security of people seeking asylum. The truck sells food to the general public at a competitive market price allowing a 75% discount to be passed on to asylum seeker shoppers. For Jean-Luc*, a father of two the Food Justice Truck has helped his wife and ch...ildren access healthy produce for over nine months. "To me, the Food Truck means everythingIt helps us with everything that I need and you can find everything you need here. The people here are good and all the stuff here is beautiful. And all the vegetables! So beautiful!" Donating just $5 to the ASRC’s Winter Appeal can provide one week of groceries to a person seeking asylum. 01.01.2022 Imagine half your family going to bed hungry in the past month.....this is a reality for people seeking asylum. Spade & Barrow supplies great produce to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC)'s Food Justice Truck, helping to improve the food security of these vulnerable members of our community. The truck is built on a break even system whereby the sale of food to the general public shoppers offsets a 75% discount to people seeking asylum. ASRC is proud to make a real diff...erence to the lives of people like Masoud* from Iran. He has been in Australia for over six years and previously spent three years in detention. The Food Truck is based on community. Without community there would be no Food Truck and no fresh vegetables, my favourite. The challenges of food security cannot be ignored this winter. Donating just $20 to the ASRC’s Winter Appeal provides one week of groceries to a family seeking asylum.
