That is, for every $100 you bring in, there is $10 leftover after you pay all of your expenses (wages, rent, electricity, supplies, product, etc).... Something like this: _________________________________________________________________ $100 revenue - $90 expenses = $10 profit _________________________________________________________________ If you increase your prices by just 3% (a $60 treatment goes to $62) your profit will increase by a whopping 30%. New Equation: _________________________________________________________________ $103 revenue - $90 expenses = $13 profit _________________________________________________________________ Now, go through your expenses and find things that aren't necessary. That is expenses that don't directly contribute to revenue. If you can manage to reduce your expenses by just 3%, your profit will go up by another 27%. New Equation: _________________________________________________________________ $103 revenue - $87.30 expenses = $15.70 profit _________________________________________________________________ We've just gone from $10 to $15.70 in profit per $100 in revenue. That's a 57% increase with things that can be done this week. If you operate at a 20% net margin and do the same exercise, your profit will still increase by 27%. Action Steps: 1) Have a look at your prices. When was the last time you had a price increase? How are you priced compared to your direct competition? If you are able, increase your prices by 3%. Don't do any more than this at one time, you might scare off customers. 2) Have a look at your expenses. Are there expenses in there that can be cut out entirely without damaging your salon experience? Are there expenses that can be reduced? You may need to look at alternative suppliers, more efficient ways of doing things to reduce wage costs or other ways to reduce expenses. 3) Do this exercise monthly, or at the very least quarterly Good luck and cheers to a profitable future!
