25.01.2022 5 proven strategies to stop binge-eating.
24.01.2022 Over the last few days I've been thinking a lot about comfort. My heart has grieved at the devastation, loss and suffering of so many Australians...our wildlife, land and bush. Closer to home I grieve for a dearly loved mum who is suffering and in decline. It got me thinking about comfort. It got me thinking about the people I work with. When we experience distressing emotions (as we do when we struggle with an eating disorder), we need comfort. Comfort that soothes and settles, that brings peace to our soul and helps us again see a future with hope. In this podcast I attempt to explore this wonderful soothe for our soul...while recognising it is beyond me! May the Father of Compassion and the God of all comfort comfort you in all your troubles in the way only He can. https://michellesparkes.com/comfort-peace-hope/ Photo by Annie Spratt
24.01.2022 Binge-eating following anorexia is common along the path to recovery and I believe reflects a deeper, internal (healthy) process of allowing one's SELF to experience and explore the hunger that has sat below our eating disordered behaviours. You don't want to camp out here (!)...but don't freak out if this is your experience. You're not off track, you just need help to explore this territory. Freedom beckons. And it's usually through this very door! MichelleSparkes.com/freedomexpress
17.01.2022 SPIRITUAL POWER in eating disorders. I believe at the heart of disordered eating lies a deep-seated hunger for acceptance and security. How we see our self and what we believe about our worth, value and entitlement (to life, nurture and good things) are critical issues in both the development of, and recovery from, an eating disorder. In this podcast (one of my most popular), I share some thoughts about this spiritual dimension. Your feedback & questions are welcome. https://michellesparkes.com/spiritual-power/
13.01.2022 The answer is it can but it may not. Not all people who experience depression binge eat. It is estimated that around 50% of people who experience a mood disorder (including depression) binge eat. Diagnosis or not, binge-eating is a common way to soothe, numb or distract from challenging emotions. The good news is there is help and hope for both depression and binge eating. 12.01.2022 Beautiful, simple...gift.
07.01.2022 I really like this. It reminds me of the many small ways we can make a big difference in another person's life - a kind word, a listening ear, a friendly smile, a warm hug, a shared meal, just noticing or being there. We are more powerful than we know. To all the beautiful people I get these gifts from, thank you!
