25.01.2022 Today with the kindy children we made the most of such a beautiful sunny day and spent our morning exploring our outdoor environment. Educator Lysh set up many different experiences around the yard that We were given the opportunity to participate it. The children in the kindy room were provided with water droppers, water and paintbrushes that the children used to create many different patterns on our bike path and verandah. Water Play gives children the opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills and will increase their hand-eye coordination through actions like pouring, squirting, scrubbing, stirring and squeezing. After our water play experiences We were provided with the opportunity to do a window painting using a variety of colours. Have a great weekend Educator- Lysh,Sophia,Cat and Bianca

25.01.2022 Children have an innate curiosity, sense of wonder and a strong desire to learn. They are very capable of creating their own learning path driven by their interests, their interactions with others and the environment around them. #SparrowEarlyLearning #TheSparrowWay #Curiosity #EarlyLearning #ReggioEmiliaInspired #Exploration #ChildLedLearning

25.01.2022 This morning the toddlers and Kindy children combined together outside for fun morning of activities the children asked for playdough and lucky enough there was playdough in the cupboard for us to use at the table we found some playdough equipment from stampers to playdough pressers which made noodles or pasta as some of the children described to educator as the children manipulated the playdough with their fingers to make snakes, balls the used the stampers to press patterns onto their playdough as well. A small group of children were interested in the dinosaurs in the garden as they interacted with one another making dinosaur sounds. A painting experience was set up for the children on the easel boards as they got busy creating and exploring with the paint as they painted wonderful masterpieces.

23.01.2022 This morning the kindy children wanted to go outside while it wasnt raining. During this time the children utilised the hoopla hoops where they participated in some games using them with educators. Educators demonstrated how to use them and keep them moving and spinning around our bodies and the kindy children attempted to copy. They participated in group discussions as they tried to spin them around their hips. Look mine is still spinning! One child yelled excitedly. Min...e is too! Another replied. While the children were participating in some fun hoopla hoop games the other children played on the play equipment in the sandpit. They took turns in going down the slide and playing games like chasey with one another. Outdoor play improves physical development. Physical skills are important for growth, physical coordination and the movement of the body. When children play outdoors they increase their ability to balance, jump, climb, throw, run and skip. 23.01.2022 Today the toddlers enjoyed indoor and outdoor play while inside we read stories with the prac student in our book area, we sang songs together our favourite song is open shut them. After our small group time we did painting using pipe cleaners to paint with today we used the colours blue, red and yellow two of the colours used all three colours, while one of the toddlers used the blue paint and our kindy friend who visited us used the red paint. After we finished painting we went outside where we got to ride the bikes around our yard and dug in the sandpit using the shovels.Educator-Tracey

23.01.2022 Today in the babies room the babies did some painting were they got to sit and lay and dip their whole hand into the paint and paint all over the canvas. Both the babies dipped a finger into the paint before rubbing their hand all over the canvas With wide eyes they, made circles with their hands swishing back and forth with their hands. The babies used the colours red, yellow and black to represent the indigenous flag and to show diversity and culture within the babies room.... The toddler did a art collage using glue, feathers, pipe cleaners and Pom poms. Both toddlers straight away grabbed the paint brush with glue and began gluing onto the paper, they dribbled the paint brush all over the paper by holding the paint brush in the air and moving it around above the paper. They then stuck their Pom poms down and then their pipe cleaners and feathers. The toddler yelled done when they had finished their college. Educator-Bianca See more

23.01.2022 This morning the babies and toddlers had a very busy morning in the babies room we manipulated the play dough in our hands to roll, squeeze and poke the dough so we could place Pom poms into the dough to add another texture to our dough play to build on our sensory play. Our next activity was a painting which we did on plastic plates using paint brushes, the toddlers enjoyed painting with the paint brushes as the swished the paint brush around the plate and dabbed the paint brush down leaving sploshes of paint on the plate. Both activities help the babies and toddlers to express ideas and make meaning using a range of media. Educator-Tracey

22.01.2022 water play experience with Alysha

22.01.2022 This morning the toddlers engaged in sensory play, the educator placed the mirror boards onto the table then sprayed some shaving foam onto the mirrors. Some of the toddlers were curious to feel the shaving foam while the others were a bit hesitant with encouragement from the educator the toddlers placed their hands into the shaving foam. The educator made up silly songs to help the toddlers to squish the shaving foam in their hands and to make squiggly patterns with their fingers. Sensory play is important for all children as children become aware of what different textures feel like in their hands, as it opens up ways to communicate through songs and describing how the shaving foam feels in our hands. Educator-Tracey

22.01.2022 Today in the toddlers room we were given the opportunity to use the felt pens to do some drawing with. We sat around the table as the educator handed out the paper and place the pens in the middle of the table. We carefully choose the colours felt pens we wanted to use we took the lid off and started to draw all over the paper being very careful not to draw on the table. The toddlers like to use a variety of different resources to draw with from pencils, crayons, chalk and felt pens. Drawing allows the children to create and express their ideas through their pictures. They are also learning to form shapes and lines which helps with our pre writing skills. Some of the toddlers were fascinated with the light table and the colourful shapes as they busily inspected and explored the shapes.Educator-Tracey

22.01.2022 This morning the kindy children soaked up the sunshine whilst participating in group play experiences outside. The children utilised the bikes as they rode around the yard, racing each other and making up obstacle course games. Some of the children seemed to really enjoy the outside games as they worked together to build up the Jenga blocks and took turns in taking the blocks out one by one until it fell over. The children cheered and chanted each other on as they removed blocks without the tower falling. We also used chalk on the floor outside as we turned the concrete into a large masterpiece using different colours together. What a great way to start our Wednesday! Educator-Cat

21.01.2022 The kindy children love their painting and today they had experienced a new and interesting type of painting with alfoil which the educator explained in how the foil shimmers as they create and enjoy mixing the paints with cotton buds and seeing it glide on their foil. There were different patterns of dots and swirls and a couple of the children were using their fingers and whole hand to make patterns on their foil. Two girls were being creative and using their imagination in making a house for the cow with the coloured magnetic tiles which they worked collaboratively together towards their interest of magnetic tiles. Educator-Marie

21.01.2022 Today we had a messy morning and we made playdough and goop with Educator Mel Mel. The children had so much fun taking turns at mixing the playdough and then each child made their own special creations. We had some goop play feeling the different textures and we had so much fun making a mess with our friends. We have had lots of inside play today as it has been such a hot day! We look forward to seeing you all this afternoon. Educator Mel Mel and Marie

21.01.2022 This morning the kindy children were enjoying the sunshine as they played together in many different areas of the yard. Whilst they played, educators sat at the table with the children one by one and gave them a mirror to look into. Using a piece of paper and pencils the children then had the opportunity to attempt to draw their own face. Using the mirror as a guide, they were able to look closely at their facial features and were able to use their fine motor skills and imagi...nation to draw a self portrait. The children were able to name different areas of their face such as their eyes, nose, mouth and ears and were able to communicate with educators about what they could see. I have dots on my face and on my nose so I have to add those on mine one of the children said as they pointed to their freckles. A child's self-portrait can reveal many things. As with any drawing, it shows the development of a child's fine motor, observation and focusing skills. But it also can give insight into a child's self-concept. In other words, it is the best way for a grown-up to see a child through that child's own eyes. Educator-Cat See more

20.01.2022 In the babies room the toddlers were helping to make play dough and they had a choice of two colours of green and pink. One of the boys pointed to the green and the girl pointed to the pink but the other boy pointed to the pink and so the pink had won today. They each helped with putting the ingredients in and even mixing the dough with the wooden spoon but the fun part was getting their hands into the dough with a little bit of scattered flour. There was other materials of h...onkey nuts, love heart cutters and coloured popsticks added for their creativity. The little girl started to sing to the tune of Row row row and one of the boys repeated the same tune and the educator also joined in singIng Row row row Your Boat. The toddlers also shared humour and satisfaction in playing with the sensory balls and the baby waking up from his morning nap, lying on the floor, he reached out to grab a couple of the wooden rattle toys to shake to his enjoyment. 17.01.2022 This morning while we were playing outside one of the children found a stick insect. The children gathered around and looked at it closely, asking educators for a container to keep it safe. They then walked around the yard finding grass and sticks for its new enclosure. One of the children named it Onion. Welcome to the sparrow family Onion!

17.01.2022 Today the weather was perfect so the children wasted no time in exploring their outside environment. They worked together in races on the bikes, building in the block area, investigating the plants and gardens for insects and making cubby houses using blankets and sheets. During their time of exploration the children found a praying mantis. They names him bob and the children utilised the environment by collecting sticks, leaves, rocks and more to create a home in the explora...tory tray for it. They participated in group discussions about the praying mantis, its home, where theyre found, what they eat and many other interesting topics. Playing outside gives children the chance to explore the natural environment and have adventures. Physical activities like these are good for childrens health, fitness and physical development. Spending time outdoors might lower a child's chances of developing short-sightedness. Educator-Cat See more

16.01.2022 When in the kindy room today the children experienced a science experiment which we made three colours dance, using milk, food dye and dishwashing liquid. The kindy all gathered around the table in excitement watching with eager eyes. I then explain to the kindy what we were doing, I asked one of the kindy if they could pour the milk in and they said yes and with assistance they poured the milk in, they then with assistance tipped food colouring into the tray and then added so...ap to watch it dance. Some of the children were excited saying, look at the bubbles which was forming and I replied yes, the bubbles are popping up because of the dish soap and then I grabbed a utensil and started to move the colours through the milk and asked the children what colour is it turning into and one child said that it kind of looks like pink. 14.01.2022 This beautiful Friday morning the toddlers and babies spent the morning outside in the toddlers yard enjoying water play. The big green water trough was filled up with some water then we placed some animals in the trough for the children to splash about in the water, some of the toddlers added rocks that they found in the garden and sand from the sandpit which was also added to our water play. The toddlers enjoyed splashing in the water with their hands. Educator-Tracey

12.01.2022 Today in the babies room we did a painting were the babies had the opportunity to use a paint brush and four different colours to paint with on their paper. The babies gathered at the table with such enthusiasm, I put the paint down on the table and they straight away began to paint. One of the babies did small dots on their paper in the shape of a circle. Were another one of the babies wanted to paint the table, their paper and their hand. As they painted their hand they would squish the paint between their figures feeling all the paint and then smacking the paper to create hand prints they had so much fun painting. They experience allowed our new babies in the room to build relationships with the other children and educator in the room. As well as make them feel safe and secure in their new environment. 12.01.2022 R U OK?Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. It's our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life's ups and downs. To celebrate "R U OK" day all the children at the service made Yellow cupcakes for their families. Helping young children to develop a strong sense of empathy is beneficial as It helps them to build a sense of security and stronger relationships with other children. It encourages acceptance of others. It promotes good mental health. Educators-Lysh,Cat,Marie and Tracey.

11.01.2022 Today in the toddlers room, the toddlers were big helpers as we found the paint tray, brushes and paper so we could do some painting on the easel board, we watched as our educator poured the paint into the tray and wrote our names onto our piece of paper. It was now time to paint we took it in turns to paint at the easel board. This experience gives the toddlers another way to paint and express themselves through their artwork. While one of our friends were painting the toddl...ers sat at the table and did some drawing with the crayons this allowed the toddlers to communicate with one another to express their ideas with drawing and to ask questions. The light table was used to today as we placed new items to be used on the light table. This activity encourages the toddlers to be curious within there environment. After our morning activities we went outside to ride the bike and to push the wheelies around the yard. Educator-Tracey See more

10.01.2022 Such a windy sunny day it was for the kindy children to explore their environment which some of the boys were on the hunt for all sorts of creepy crawly which they happened to have a found a small and a big snail. Another boy found a black and white worm which he later on misplaced it but he kept on looking. The boys were showing their prize possession to the educators with excitement in saying, Look look what we have found, a cricket smiling from ear to ear. A green troug...h was set up with imitation grass rocks and stones and other items that we can find and grabbed a few plastic bugs/insects to put into the trough with the help of some children. The children found the bugs interesting with one girl showing the educator a pink frog and another girl was showing off the big black spider on the web. The educator went through naming each bug with the children and one of the boys had said, I got a centipede at my house nodding his head which the educator said, As big as this holding up the centipede to which the boy nodded yes. Playing with bugs/insects, the children are using their imagination and broadening their understanding of the world in which they live in. Educator-Marie See more

10.01.2022 Bringing the outdoors inside with sand play and the kindy children are going to do an experiment in making foam sand with the simpliest of ingredients of shaving foam and sand. The foam has a smooth slimy and grainy texture that makes for a great sensory activity and language development. The educator asked the children what does it feel like as they were mixing the ingredients together in running their hands and/or fingers through the texture and some of the children replie...d in turn with it feels slimy whilst another child said shaving cream and sand and another child continued with saying water and the lucky last one replied also with I got slime on my hands as she was holding her hands up to show her educator with a smile. Some of the children were using their hands in round motion on the table with the foam sand and one child was using his right finger to draw lines in his. The children were enjoying the activity with such enjoyment and enthusiasm. Also some children enjoyed a moment of building with the coloured magnetic tiles before the sand foam activity. 09.01.2022 Today in the toddlers room the toddlers and one baby explored their fine motor skills by engaging in activities that encourage the use of their fine motor skills through threading at the table using the large 3D beads and laces. Our next activity two of the toddlers made a bridge using plastic cups and paddle pop sticks where they carefully placed the paddle pop sticks on top of the cups. Our next activity we used a spoon to scoop plastic frogs out of the water and place into... a cup . Our last activity was the light table with the feathers that the baby looked at by picking the feather up to explore. These activity helps with our hand eye co- ordination and the use of grip that is required to hold the threading lace and 3D bead. How to hold the paddle pop stick to place onto the cups without falling off, and how to hold the spoon correctly to have control to be able to scoop the frogs up. Educator-Tracey See more

09.01.2022 This morning the kindy children were extremely excited to head outside to enjoy the sunshine with their peers. The children engaged in physical movement and gross motor experiences such as riding bikes, climbing obstacles, hoola hooping and so many other fun games. They also engaged in a painting experience together as they sat at the picnic table and using A4 paper and different coloured paints they created their very own paintings to take home at the end of the day. They sp...oke about the different colours, who their pictures were for, what they were painting pictures of and more. The kindys also utilised the sandpit toys and dinosaurs as they made homes for them using buckets, shovels, sand, plants and blocks. One of the children also found a caterpillar in the bush so the children became very interested in it and they all worked together to help care for it. Outdoor play also enables children to enjoy the natural environment and learn to seek out exercise, fresh air, and activity. There is something fundamentally healthy about using the outdoors. Thus outdoor play develops disposition for the outdoors, for physical activity, and for care of the environment. Educator-Cat See more

09.01.2022 Today in the toddlers room we had the opportunity to do two types of painting experiences our first painting experience was painting with paint brushes on foil as we painted the foil we could hear the foil make a crunchy sound every time we painted with the paint brush. Our next painting experience was feather painting on a paper bag. Both painting experiences encourage the toddlers to use different types of textures that we can paint on and paint with, to encourage our creativity. After painting we took advantage of balloon play within the room as we threw the balloons up in the air and chased after them before heading into the schoolers room to help make yellow cupcakes for r u ok day. 09.01.2022 This morning the sun was shining through the clouds and the children had the opportunity to engage in some group play experiences. During this time the children grouped together in the sandpit where they utilised cup cake trays, bowls, buckets, spoons and shovels and natural resources to role play and participate in imaginative play as a team. The children communicated their thoughts, feelings and opinions as they spoke with one another about what they were making, the proces...s involved and role played being in a kitchen and making all sorts of yummy treats. The toddlers joined the kindy in this great outdoor play experience and seemed to really enjoy having the opportunity to mix with the older children. Some of the children rode on the bikes and attempted to build and create different objects and towers using the loose parts area. They worked together to construct and fit pipes and tubes together and then attempted to talk to one another through the tubes, testing their voices and listening to the different sounds at the end. Loose Parts offers many opportunities for children to use natural materials and objects in their environment. This allows them to make meaning of the natural world around them and manipulate materials however way they would like. Loose parts provide many experiences for children to be creative, curious and imaginative See more

08.01.2022 Today the kindy children took it upon themselves to ask for the playdough and other construction resources. They took them to the table and began to utilise them all together as a group. The children used magnetic tiles to construct houses and buildings and then used the small construction cars and trucks to drive and role play at the same time. The kindy children moulded and sculpted the playdough into different shapes and sizes and added them to the role play experience . T...hey participated in group discussions and verbally expressed their opinions and ideas throughout the activity. Role play is an important part of child development, as it builds confidence, creativity communication, physical development and problem solving. 07.01.2022 Today in the babies room we did a finger painting were the babies got to dip their hands and fingers in some different coloured paint and paint all over their paper. One of the babies who has just joined our Dparrow family ,slowly dipped their figure into the paint, being cautious and careful. After they touched it they soon realise that they loved the feeling and began dipping and feeling the paint and putting it all over the paper. Another one of our baby friends did little dots all over their paper in brown paint, babbling and talking to herself. This group experience allowed the babies to develop their social interactions with their peers allowing them to babble and observe their peers in the same activity. As well teach them a new skill and encourage new interests. Educator-Bianca

07.01.2022 Today the toddlers engaged in some sensory play with play dough and nature items. The toddlers manipulated the dough with their hand to flatten it out and to roll the dough as they placed pieces of nature items into the dough. Sensory play is very important for the toddlers as they are learning way to use their vocabulary to communicate with others in verbal and non verbal ways, it enhances our fine motor skills as the manipulate the dough and provides the toddlers to use their sense of creativity. 06.01.2022 With the babies and toddlers today we did a painting were the children used the colours orange, yellow and green and paint sponges to do a paint. We got into a art aprons and sat around the table, educator placed the paint onto the table for the children to paint with. Immediately one of the toddlers grabbed the sponge brush and began to paint doing dots along the paper. Another toddler noticed and went straight in there doing brush strokes up and down their paper. One of the babies is learning to sit on their own, we sat at the table when painting. Educator-Bianca

06.01.2022 Today the babies and toddlers combined together and participated in a sensory painting experience using frozen red ice cubes to paint with. The educator spoke with each child about the texture of the ice cube and how it may feel in their hand as they are touching the ice cube to paint with. As they were painting some of the toddlers noticed that their hands were stained with the colour red. As the babies and toddlers continued to explore the ice cubes in the ice tray the noticed pools of coloured water in the bottom of the Ice tray. After our painting experience we went outside to enjoy the warm spring sunshine playing in the sandpit with the shovels and containers, playing with the sensory balls and exploring the garden. 05.01.2022 Today the kindy children had the opportunity to make anything they like out of clay. Earlier in the morning they were playing with play dough with such enjoyment and we decided to make clay so it can last. So the educator gave the children each a piece of terracotta coloured clay and they started to create their masterpiece with curiosity and interest. Clay helps develop the small muscles in their fingers and hands, as they pinch, squeeze and prod the clay, adding detail to ...the shape or object. Manipulating clay also helps to develop hand/eye coordination as they pound, pat and push the clay into shape. Through this manipulation the children expresses their thoughts and ideas as they mould the clay and take form of their imagination. The educator asked the children what they were making and some of them said, snake, some said, snail and monsters and even a pancake with snakes. One little boy said, fire in a round shape. 01.01.2022 This morning the kindy children had so much fun outside in their yard as they explored their environment together and created masterpieces using different resources. The children got creative as they made cubby houses with blankets and sheets, adding natural resources and toys they had brought in from home to create a safe space to role play and engage in group discussions. Some children walked around the yard and with the help of educators they found different bugs and insec...ts which they then made homes for out of recycled materials, plants and natural resources and pots and pans. The children also utilised the open space on the concrete as they mixed chalk and water together and drew amazing pieces of artwork all over the floor. They engaged in whiteboard drawing and discussed their favourite colours, shapes and places and even painted pictures using different coloured paint and paper. The simple act of drawing does indeed play an important role in a child's physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Like no other activity, drawing allows young children to express emotions, experience autonomy, and build confidence. Educator-Cat See more

01.01.2022 Today the kindy children were enjoying the beautiful sunshine. During this time the children helped make some playdough. They added ingredients to the bowl and each had a turn of mixing using the large wooden spoon. Together as a group the children decided on the colour they wanted to use. Together they chose green. They then participated in group discussions about the texture of the dough, colour, objects they were going to construct with it and the warmth of the dough after... it was just made. They used rollers, cutters, paint brushes, pattern makers, soaps and natural resources to add to the dough experience. Playdough develops fine motor skills. The acts of squishing, rolling, flattening, and more help children develop muscles used in their hands for fine motor movements useful in the future, such as holding a pencil or using scissors. Using play dough is a calming activity. Children work their stress out through their hands, so play dough is not only loads of fun, but can be another useful way to help your children to release stress. Educator-Cat See more
