25.01.2022 Another successful day at SPASM last Friday we had a lovely group of ladies (and one man) visit us. A group of friends who go out to interesting places once a month . So nice that they saw the write up in the Herald last year and put us on their places to visit list. Then On Saturday Kate held the fort with Michael our latest recruit, and Raj also visited, and there were more visitors this time from interstate. A great place for reflection and remembering the old times. Th...ank you for the kind words in our attendance book. Sadly we had to close the museum before Daniels Gladesville History tour finished or we may have had even more visitors. We are open on the Second Saturday 11 - 3pm and on the fourth Monday of most months 11-3 This month we are having a lunch in memory of Narelle Hines who was our treasurer for many many years. A lovely lady she will be sadly missed. Please let me know if you would like to attend. See more

24.01.2022 We have a couple of newsletters since I last posted, and some lovely visitors to the museum. All our news is written in the newsletters. Sent to members hot off the press. I will post the November newsletter a little later. OR why wait join the society and you will get it sent to you.

18.01.2022 Our June Newsletter - following on from the OTA conference and the lunch on 27th we had to remember Narelle Hines. Thanks to all who called into our stand at the OTA Conference and how great was it to catch up for lunch last week with Kathy Holland, Trish Reed, John Stuart, Merrilyn Little, Menna Davies, Lois Hamlin, Ann and Rob, Bea Valys, Tingee, Malu, and others Great food and great company, Thanks to Val, Sue and Peter for helping set it all out.

15.01.2022 I just received an email from The hospital maintenance team informing us that the work in the St Thomas room to repair the ceiling will not be completed until after 23rd March. This was to be our normal Monday March opening day for SPASM so that day must be closed as entry to building 6 is compromised with furniture blocking the corridors. The St George Red Cross visit on the 3rd April has cancelled their group visit. We have no other planned group tours scheduled u...ntil Sat 9th May group. The ACORN Conference has been cancelled so the planned tour of SPASM museum will not take place in late May. We executives (Sandra Ros and Gary ) of our little group, have discussed this matter and agreed that we should formally close the Museum for the rest of March and April and reassess in the beginning of May. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope everyone stays safe and well. Although our museum will never have large gatherings that other organisations have - our visitors and our guides are an important part of our museum so we want to maintain safety for all. so that would mean: Monday 23rd MARCH closed due to building renovations Saturday 11th APRIL closed due to Easter Monday 27th APRIL closed to Public. Possibility of a moving day with professional movers to re-establish the St Thomas room. We will continue to re assess the situation in the coming weeks and advise.

14.01.2022 Thinking about the group tour on Wed 27th May - the PreConference tour for the National Perioperative ACORN meeting. We would like to showcase short stories about the use of selected items we have on display. So if you think you have a story to share, send in your reminiscences. We have lots of items to choose from I am on the look out for an old swab rack to display in the museum to help tell the story of sponges and swabs. If anyone knows of one we could have for the museum I would be very grateful. We are starting off the new year with a group visit on Saturday 8th February. Why not come along and help show our Museum artefacts to these folk? We are open from 10-3pm

12.01.2022 This is the February edition of our newsletter. To receive your personal copy of our newsletter when it is first published why not join our society for only $20 pa I will email you the monthly newsletter.

06.01.2022 We had a very successful day today at the museum. A lovely Probus walking group of 29 from the Central coast visited us. They caught the ferry from Circular quay and walked up to the museum, from the Huntley Point wharf. So nice to see so many of our little group of volunteers together. We had the chance later to sit down and plan what we are taking to the the OTA conference in Terrigal in a couple of weeks. So hope to see many of our friends and colleagues at the Conference.

05.01.2022 July Newsletter is about to be sent out . This month we are talking about Optical Science. and showing some of the interesting items we have in the collection, as well as some new acquisitions that have recently been kindly donated. Hope you will enjoy.

04.01.2022 The December Newsletter for SPASM. Happy Christmas all.

03.01.2022 So glad that my talk about the SPASM museum went well at the ASA historical meeting on Sunday. The historical films that Rajesh showed were amazing. That meeting is so worthwhile attending for anyone who is interested in medical history. The film on how to give ether anaesthetics was amazing. And so great to meet two of our anaesthetic members Peter & Ann who I have been emailing for a couple of years but never met. We also had 3 new medical members join the society. Welcome to new members Richard Morris, Phillip Hatch, and Peter Isert.

03.01.2022 Because our Museum is on the site of the old "Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum" - late called "Gladesville Hospital for the Insane" then simply "Gladesville Hospital" I have often wondered what it was like for patients or staff living and working at this site. One of our rooms is dedicated to memorabilia from the site and we have lovely photographs of the site as well as photographs of the first 6 Medical Superintendents of the site. We had no information about the first Non Medical superintendent Joseph Digby and his wife Susannah or the early Matrons of the Hospital. So this next newsletter tells a little of those amazing women who were so highly regarded during their lifetime. I hope you enjoy reading about them and if by any chance you know more please let me know so we can add to our knowledge.
