22.01.2022 Looking after me takes a lot of time, but it is important for you to make time for you. Other adults can care for me while you do the things you like to do. Only when you make time for yourself, can you properly take care of me. When you feel rested and supported, you will have more energy to enjoy and take care of me. Credit: http://kidscount.com.au/

20.01.2022 My relationship with you helps me understand how relationships work. When you are predictable in the way you respond to me, I learn to trust and rely on people. When we have fun together, I learn that relationships feel good. When you are consistently warm and loving, I know what healthy, loving relationships feel like. I will take these experiences with me all my life. Credit: http://kidscount.com.au/
18.01.2022 My first language does not have any words. I show you how I am through the way I breathe. whether or not I am making eye contact with you, the brightness of my eyes, my facial expressions, the way I hold my body. Crying is part of my language too. Credit: http://kidscount.com.au/
17.01.2022 We hope you all had a lovely Christmas Day and enjoyed an even better Boxing Day weekend! We are thinking of those families who might be separated and are not able to travel during this time.
17.01.2022 A special shoutout to this rockstar, Nevaeh. She loves having jam sessions at speech and she has been working so incredibly hard. We're so proud of how much she has learnt!
16.01.2022 When I hear you putting my feeiings into words, begin to learn that there are ways of making sense of my feelings. Words teach me that my feelings are real. The way you talk to me shows that my feelings are true. Your words give me a language to understand me and you and our family. It does not matter if you do not always get it right. It is irnportant that I know you are there for me and that you ore trying to understand me. Credit: http://kidscount.com.au/

12.01.2022 We have been having a blast this school holidays with our amazing school readiness groups. Ready and rearing to go for 2021!
10.01.2022 When asking your child questions, it is important to mix it up There are many different 'wh' questions we can ask; 1) WHAT (What's this? What are you doing?)... 2) WHO (Who's this? Who is smiling? Who is wearing a jumper?) 3) WHERE (Where are you? Where are we going? Where is the cat?) 4) WHY (Why do we wear a hat? Why do you go to school?) 5) WHEN (When are we going on holidays? When do we put our sunscreen on?) Remember to mix it up and ask your child at least one of these everyday. If they don't know the answer, then model the correct answer for them. These questions are so important for telling stories, having a conversation, writing text types and eventually reading comprehension.
10.01.2022 The best way to help me feel calm is tor you to feel calm. I learn how to cope with stress by seeing and feeling how you do that. Whenever you feel stressed as you care for me it Will help me if you find a way to feel quiet STOP what you are doing. Feel your feet planted firmly on the ground. PAUSE and breathe in and out slowly. at least 3 times. REFLECT on what I might be feeling and what I need. THINK about how you ore feeling and what you need. ... RESPOND to me calmly Credit: http://kidscount.com.au/
07.01.2022 Use your face and your voice to show me that you understand how I am feeling - whether I am happy, interested, sad. angry or frightened. When you mirror my sad or happy face. I learn that each of my feelings is important to you, and that I am important. I do not know how to make myself feel better. I cannot calm myself down when I am upset. I need your help to do this until my brain develops the connections that allow me to do that for myself. Those connections get stronger each time you use your soothing voice. touch and movements to calm me. It helps me when you talk to me calmly about how I am feeling. It helps me when you hold me close and you are tender. Credit: http://kidscount.com.au/

04.01.2022 Children who struggle with academic activities need explicit teaching. When I say explicit, this means teaching needs to be direct; leaving no room for confusion or doubt. One of the most effective teaching methods is The Spalding Method. This teaching method started in America in the 1950's and was first used in Australia in the 1990's.... I have been using this method to teach children with literacy difficulties for the past 6 years. It has a very high success rate. I assess children, who come in with no concept of spelling or writing- and suddenly, in therapy, light bulbs start going off in their brain and they are on the way to becoming literate. If your child had literacy difficulties, give us a call today to see how we can help (02) 4555 1870.

03.01.2022 Walk in my shoes and see the world through my eyes. I do not understand the world the way you do. I am still learning about me, you and us. I cannot link my feelings to my thoughts and my behaviour. I learn how to do this every time you help me. I need you to understand what I understand. We are part of each other.
