22.01.2022 Nsw health have released important warnings about cocaine and heroin containing powerful synthetic opioids fentanyl and derivatives. If you are using heroin or cocaine sourced from Sydney and western NSW, it would be worth talking to a NSP and seeing if you can get a fentanyl test strips and naloxone . See www.health.nsw.gov.au for further information

20.01.2022 Are you ready to give up the thing that’s holding you back... There’s nothing better than watching people see themselves differently and stepping into their power with pride.

20.01.2022 The next 48 hours I’m trading days for nights to do two solid days of UK based conference. Zoom and COVID-19 has revolutionised access to treatment research and training.

20.01.2022 Tuesday I was part of a substance use and harm reduction panel discussion for students at ANU Wright Hall. The Panel included; David Caldicott ED specialist and pill testing Australia, Cannon from Directions Health ACT (ngo treatment provider) and myself (representing ACT Health). This was a good example of how harm reduction can be done specifically targeted to a population likely to try substances & influence positive & health protective behaviours. Just say KNOW Great work ANU if you are interested in finding ways to reduce harm or increase knowledge in the early experimentation stages of substance use; get in touch we also do harm reduction education sessions.

19.01.2022 ATODA impact of COVID-19 on substance use workshop. If there’s anything that history has taught us, that markets are robustly connected to demand and highly adaptive. Always excellent to get Training from Annie Bleeker amazing work by the ATOD sector to keep delivering services done through this time.

17.01.2022 I’m going to do a series of videos which will discuss ways to cope with stress, how to keep in touch with loved ones, and a few others. This is part of My contribution to making sure we all get through these interesting times.

16.01.2022 It’s easy to see past our strengths and opportunities when we are stuck in a rut. Reflection and support makes seeing these blind spots easier. Get in touch and let’s work on the work together.

15.01.2022 In times like this it’s easy to get moved by panic and fear. Especially if you have been exposed to bushfire experience previously. Stress is stress and there is only so much we can take. It’s important to have a fire plan ready before you need it. If you don’t have one go to https://esa.act.gov.au Practicing skills when not in peak stress makes them more likely to work when you need them to. Take time out to look after yourself and your family. Stay safe from @speakeasycanberra

15.01.2022 It’s been a long time coming (way beyond when it should have been available to save lives) and its here; intranasal Nalaoxone to reverse suspected opioid overdoses. Excellent to see nurses rolling out a program through the public clinic while the specialist NGO Alcohol and drug services are rolling out a voucher program to help people buy it over the counter. Well done Canberra! This should be available over the counter, if not ask your GP or get in contact with Canberra alliance of harm minimisation and advocacy www.cahma.org.au @ Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

13.01.2022 Things might get hard and there are still alternative experiences on the way if you pay attention. #reflection

12.01.2022 Jung taught us that what we resist persists. Sometimes we have to fight hard with ourselves to figure out what is happening within us to let go. Other times we may need get out of our own way and unfold.

11.01.2022 Coping and stress video is up on the blog, for technical reasons I couldn’t upload it to instagram. The first 20 Mins is about stress and anxiety the last 20 minutes is about distress tolerance skills to use. Available at Facebook page or www.harmreduction.com.au/blog

09.01.2022 Thinking through solving a challenging situation makes you more likely to achieve it. Practice makes perfect and here’s some questions to help navigating finding solutions before acting out the solutions #dbt

08.01.2022 My thoughts and contributions #togetherapart2020

07.01.2022 ATODA and it’s partners really do a great job putting good policy discussions together to get the conversation started and keep it going. Drug use and the way we look at addiction needs to change fundamentally. If you have time in your calendar; definitely get along to one of these.

01.01.2022 Australia capital territory does punch above it’s weight in some areas of addiction treatment, in particular smoking cessation. It’s interesting to see how we lead in few areas and are somewhat ahead of the UK in workforce development. Lots of work can be done. This conference reminds me of the politics of drug use and addiction and the tension between individual behaviour and social contexts i which it occurs. Addiction is a complex biopsychosocial experience which can occur through time and needs leaders and champions
