19.01.2022 This has been one of the hardest messages for me to write but one we know needs to happen. Following the PM announcement & the government ban on enclosed gatherings (announced on Wednesday 18 March), Speakeasy HQ will remain closed indefinitely, due to the current situation surrounding the imminent outbreaks of Coronavirus. While we know that this is the appropriate and responsible thing for us to do, it is devastating for us, as as a community of artists and producers. The... stark reality for all entertainment venues is that although we have been required to close our operations we have not been offered any respite from our obligation to pay our rent, and this will further complicate an already harrowing situation for us all. Asking for donations through such an unprecedented time is not something that we do lightly, and we only ask for your support if you are able to do so. If not, sharing or purchasing a ticket for future shows is just as greatly appreciated. We are trying to ride this storm like everyone, whilst providing our staff, producers & artists some light at the end of the tunnel. If you have pre-purchased tickets to an upcoming show we will be in contact with you shortly to discuss any opportunities that exist to transfer your tickets to a future date when operations resume. If this isn’t an option for you, we would like to be able to offer refunds wherever necessary as soon as we are able to do so. I sign this message off the same way I began it, that we are devastated and as a family run, independent business, and as the parents of six children, and we are all working literally day and night to stay afloat through these unprecedented times. We hope the future will be brighter, and pray for the good health of everyone in our community. Until then, stay safe, & be kind. 12.01.2022 Our beautiful old gal, along with all other arts and entertainment venues has been closed since March. We are planning for our re-opening, but the financial challenges associated with a shut down are extensive. We urgently need the community’s help to sustain our beautiful theatre until the curtain can rise again. Hear the voices at our heart, and stick around for the encore. We miss you all, keep speaking easy #dontvanishvaudeville #savespeakeasyhq #wewillriseagain TO DONATE -- gf.me/u/y38prh

09.01.2022 We hope all our easy speakers are safe and well. The damage from this global pandemic is still being felt through every bone of our arts & entertainment world. We haven’t disappeared (although it feels like it!) we are starting the rally and regroup to grow into the new world of entertainment. We ask for your support as we start to raise the heavy beast that is the theatre, can you help us rise from the ashes can you donate today to give arts workers the support they urgent...ly need? If you donate before 30 June, your gift will be tax deductible this financial year. https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/speakeasyhq

09.01.2022 In truth, we haven’t been ok. This year has really knocked every last piece of air out of ours, our staff, and all the performers of Melbourne’s sails. It’s been extremely tough to stay positive as the closures push on longer, and often we find ourselves responding we’ll get there -- Today is National R U OK? Day; a day where we focus on suicide prevention and mental health. Never has this been more important to have conversations. They can make a real difference to mental... health and wellbeing. If you’re unsure how to have a conversation, ask and then listen. You don’t need to be an expert or a mental health professional, you just need to be there. So we will start, we know it’s been tough for you- R U ok? #ruokday #thereismoretosayafterruok

09.01.2022 We don't want to open for profit. We want to open for our people, our staff, and our performers and to bring back Vaudeville. #dontvanishvaudeville #savespeakeasyhq

06.01.2022 Dear Easy Speakers, we understand there may be some concern over the growing threat of coronavirus (COVID-19). Speakeasy HQ is taking extra steps to ensure our patrons health and comfort. We have increased alcohol based hand sanitiser units around the club as well as increased the frequency of cleaning in the venue. Staff have also been advised to wash their hands frequently with soap and water. These measures have been advised by the Commonwealth Department of Health. As a...dditional information comes to hand we will update customers accordingly. At this stage it is business as usual. We hope to welcome you again soon! #businessasusual
