23.01.2022 Congratulations to trailblazer Robert Martin from New Zealand who has become the first person with an intellectual disability to be elected to the United Nation...s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities!! Robert is a fantastic self advocate and leader - here at CID weve long been fans of his work. Growing up in various institutions in New Zealand, Robert has overcome adversity through a combination of hard work, passion and determination. And now hes off to the UN! Thanks for your leadership Robert and showing us all what is possible. You have already changed the world & will continue to do so - hooray! http://www.newshub.co.nz//robert-martins-historic-election

19.01.2022 Nothing like a lovely morning making pretend rice and playdough cakes! Rice play is great for inquiry based leaning, getting those little minds working and predicting outcomes early (and so cheap!!)
18.01.2022 We used the latest technology to allow parents to become toddlers again and filmed it!
18.01.2022 Just getting ready for all my multi- sensory language clients! I love working on language and literacy together!

13.01.2022 Don't stop...believing... Using AAC as a strategy to support communication and language development does not mean you're waving the white flag on oral speech.... Yes, some people will forever rely on AAC. For them, it's "alternative" not augmentative. But for many young kiddos, they need a visual means to support their communication NOW. They need to augment their communication while they learn the power of language. That's what AAC does for so many. Lots of kids continue to supplement their speech with AAC after speech begins to develop. But remember this: AAC does not interfere with speech development. 12.01.2022 Just had a morning game of Old MacDonald Lotto with the family. Orchard toys are great games for preschoolers to encourage turn taking, winning and losing and language concepts. My 3 year old lost today but was able to say "good job" to her grandmother who won (and believe me, I have a child who loves winning!) Behaviour change requires lots of modelling and practice in a fun, friendly environment, so grab out the games and enjoy!
12.01.2022 I have a very excited little wiggle in bed ready for tomorrow!!! We love Emma

12.01.2022 One of the best buys for helping with narrative and story telling development was this over the door puppet theatre from Kmart! Only $15 for hours of fun and interesting conversation!
12.01.2022 Very excited that St Johns in Baradine are providing a FREE transition for the community. A positive transition program allows for continuity of skill development, reduces anxiety and encourages resilience to change.
11.01.2022 Was a great start to private practice over in Coonamble for the year! I visited the Coonamble Preschool today and was so pleased to see all the staff using their Key Word Sign skills during the morning sessions! Fantastic ladies, looking forward to a great year!
10.01.2022 Lets please put an end to the reading wars!
08.01.2022 Nothing like an afternoon of farm play! Imaginary or pretend play is such a great way to help a child learn new vocabulary (today we have talked about animals being called stock, a goat has a baby kid, the animals drink out of a trough, and when it doesnt rain it is called a drought). Kids learn to sequence and organise their play, which helps them sequence and organise themselves during the day. They learn to create a narrative around their toys which is such an important ...first stage to story writing. So dont mind the mess and take out the toys Some of the best early themes are; Farm play Hospitals Cooking & home corner Jungle Trucks and garages Shopping Schools & teachers Pirates & Fairies Under the sea Circus Space & rockets See more
08.01.2022 It still happens in this day and age..... Very sad and unfortunately not the first story I have heard like this! Social inclusion is for everybody!!!
08.01.2022 Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!! (aka Theodor Seuss Geisel, March 2, 1904-Sept. 24, 1991)
07.01.2022 We always have 3 or 4 books on our coffee table, accessible for the girls. Our 3 year old loves pretending to read and looking at the pictures, our 1 year old loves dragging them around the house, but either way, they can pick up a book at any time! We always swap them over every few days so they are exposed to a variety. Please, please, please always make books accessible to your kids, the best way to promote oral language and early literacy skills.

06.01.2022 If youve ever lost your voice, you know how hard it can be to communicate. Vocal health is so important, theres even a day set aside to promote it, World Voic...e Day, is April 16, 2016. In this Mayo Clinic Minute, voice specialist Dr. Amy Rutt describes what it takes to create your voice and issues that can affect it. http://mayocl.in/1QcDpGW See more
