16.01.2022 Today is #RandomActsofKindnessDay and I thought that apart from encouraging everyone to do something a little random for someone else, I would use the opportunity to thank ALL the volunteers who kindly give their time and smiles to make your Party possible. #NSWSESCORINDI dont just come along on the day. They are there with us from the very start of setting up right until the end of the pack up on Sunday afternoon. Personally, I think they come just to play with the soft toys!! 13.01.2022 Talk of Covid-19 is everywhere. Can you imagine how frightening it is for the kids? As adults we are running all the What if scenarios through our heads and trying to keep things as ordinary as possible for our children. The only what if to be addressed here is about whether the Special Childrens Christmas Party will go ahead this year. We believe it will. We are proceeding to ensure it will. But we dont have a crystal ball and we dont have control of all the factors. ...However, I have 27 years of my life invested in these Parties. We have been through an awful lot of unprecedented events in that time and we have prevailed. We will again. We will think of a way. If more than 500 people are permitted to gather, there will be a Party at the venue and it will be the best we can make it. If its less than 500 (or whatever number) then maybe there will be shifts at the Party and people will come and go. Will it look the same as other years? Maybe. Maybe it will be better. Great changes came to the way we work from standing in almost knee-deep water at a Party years ago. A good shake up forces us to look at things from a different angle. Will we have toys? Well, we have been in a room filled with possible toys packed to the rafters trying to choose between the rad reindeer and delightful donkey. Or theres always the dotty dogthe beautiful bear decisions. Decisions. Whichever we choose, we know it will go into the loving arms of the invited children. The world economic impacts on the Australian dollar adds an extra degree of difficulty and another polish of the crystal ball. IF the world is still trying to contain, control, manage, understand this virus by the time the Parties come around in November and December, we are going to need every possible opportunity to celebrate life, family and community. We are working towards being a huge part of that celebration. Please keep the faith and we will stay calm and believe in Santa. Thank you for all your support and hope to see you later in the year when we share your generosity with hundreds of local families. Stay well. See more

02.01.2022 Pivot. Adapt. Iso. Quarantine. Welcome to Business 2020. Just like everyone else in business, we have had to rethink everything in the way we go about doing what we do. Wake up each day; assess; adapt; repeat. Everything becomes a balancing act between being safe and keeping the doors open so that there is still something left when whatever the new ‘normal’ looks like arrives. In our case, we plan to gather hundreds and hundreds of children together to celebrate Christmas and... community. The complication is that each of these children brings with them compromised immunity, co-morbidities, multiple disabilities and therefore raises the risks for them should they contract COVID-19. Pivot. Adapt. If we were holding a school fete, I’d go ahead with a COVID Safe Plan and without a backward glance. But, we’re not and so with a heavy heart I have to tell you we have made the decision to change (adapt) the way we stage the Special Children’s Christmas Party this year and do things differently to the way we have for over 25 years (pivot). PLAN Z that’s where we have landed home delivery both physically and electronically We will still access 1200 local children with special needs. We have purchased the gifts and some of the other craft and treat items we usually provide. We have booked entertainers. Here’s the operational plan. We will now distribute 1200 GIFT VOUCHERS to children through more than a hundred local schools, community, Government and support organisations. These gift vouchers will advise the children of the process to redeem their gifts and treats. Our entertainment will move online giving the children AND their families and friends endless opportunities to enjoy the best line-up of entertainers they have ever experienced at a Party. They will be able to watch as often as they like and click in and out for their own comfort. Santa will have a very special message for the children. It’s not the personal one-on-one time they usually have but they couldn’t have had that this year anyway Santa would have been contactless. I could cry. Truth be told, I have. Especially after children missed out last year with the fires. This isn’t what we do but it’s the best we can do. I cannot reconcile in my head or my heart news coverage of ‘the Special Children’s Christmas Party cluster’. We promised to contribute to these families, but we ALL need to be safe families, children, volunteers, sponsors, and staff.
