19.01.2022 James Summerhayes- James is one of the true gentlemen of our basketball squad! His passion and enthusiasm for basketball and his Special Olympics mates is second to none. Here are his great answers to the questions that Lorraine Clark had asked our players to consider in regard to their lives during the past eight months of COVID. * How did you keep in touch with your team mates? As soon as COVID hit, the club stayed connected with Zoom group catch ups. This was a brillian...t way to keep in touch with each other. One of the things I love about this club is the mateship we have as a team. * Did you reach out to friends to see how they are feeling? Yes I did over the phone and through Instagram and Facebook. *What was a fun thing you did during the NO SPORT time? I think of my favourite things I did was the blogs on Instagram on farm life. This for me was a huge success because it got lots of positive feedback and people loved me showing the things I do on the farm. *What did you learn about yourself these past six months? I learnt to be careful with making the right decisions. With more time to myself, it made me reflect on things in the future. *How do you feel about being back at training? Love being back involved with club at trainings and training as a group again. I look forward to future basketball competitions. Check out James with his entry for our Crazy Photo competition we held over the COVID lockdown - He was Farmer James! See more

Here are his great answers to the questions that Lorraine Clark had asked our players to consider in regard to their lives during the past eight months of COVID. * How did you keep in touch with your team mates? I didn’t’ keep in touch with team mates as I am new to SOSNB Basketball but I kept in touch with friends o...n one on one basis coffee, lunch etc. I was able to go out with disability support workers one on one as well. * Did you reach out to friends to see how they are feeling? I kept in touch via phone and text messages and Facebook *What was a fun thing you did during the NO SPORT time? With the help of my family I embraced a healthy diet and lost 15kilo! I went on lots of walks and swam *What did you learn about yourself these past six months? I learnt about healthy eating, exercise. I liked watching the news to learn about COVID-19. I got Trump and Scomo confused! *How do you feel about being back at training? I am enjoying being at basketball. See Andrews photo of him out cycling in Manly keeping fit and active. See more

Dear Special Olympics Sydney Northern Beaches athletes, family members, carers and volunteers, On behalf of your Sydney Northern Beaches committee I extend compliments of the Season to you all.... 2020 has been a most difficult year and more so due to what we are experiencing with the current lock down. However, I am confident if we all follow the government directions and health practices we will come through this and be able to enjoy our regular activities with each other again. So please enjoy your Christmas celebration, whatever that might be on this occasion, and perhaps take time to reflect on some of the good times you have had in the past, as I am sure they will return. Stay healthy and I look forward to seeing you at our Awards Lunch on February 6th. Rex Langthorne AM Chair Special Olympics Sydney Northern Beaches
