22.01.2022 Sadly we share the news that our workmate and friend Chris McDermott has received a devasting diagnosis of inoperable, stage 4 terminal cancer. Chris has commenced a course of chemotherapy, which will occur every 21 days as well as radiation therapy for 8 days in a row which will continue for several months, with the hope that these treatments will suppress the cancer and buy him time to spend with his family and create memories for their boys. At a later date he will requir...e surgery on his leg to insert a metal rod and pins to give the leg some stability for him to gain full use of it again. Chris has commented that he is at peace with the situation but is focused and determined to be the one statistic to beat his diagnosis, and those of us who know Chris’ strength and willpower know that he will fight and give it his best. Chris has started a bucket list of things he would like to do with his family, as well as achieving things on their family home that they had always planned. One of the ways the Spectran family are providing support to Chris and his family is to complete some of the bucket list work on his family home. Another way we can all support and show Chris how much we believe in him is to donate to his gofundme page as below: https://www.gofundme.com/f/2mb58p-10000 We know that you will join our family in sending our very best wishes to Chris and his family, and thank you all for your continued support and understanding.

03.01.2022 Today is RUOK Day. Mental health is a serious issue, and Spectran Group is committed to helping our staff in any way that we can to ensure that your health and wellbeing is at its best. We offer an EAP with Converge International. Below is what one of our staff members had to say about their own experiences using this free service.... "I was having relationship problems at home, and I approached my supervisor to ask about options for speaking with our counsellors. My supervisor helped me to ring up and book in for a counselling session. My supervisor also organised for me to have the time off to see the counselor. It was really good for me to talk to someone about what I was going through. The first session was like a weight being lifted off my shoulders, just to be able to talk to someone. I had another three sessions, and I felt better in myself after every session, and felt like I was helped back onto the right track. My advice is don’t be scared to speak up and to talk to someone. I’m glad I did!" If you're struggling with anything, then we encourage you to talk to someone about it. You can contact Converge free of charge, and you can call them directly if you prefer. And if you notice a workmate seems "a bit off," or doesn't seem to be quite their usual self, then please take the opportunity to ask, "RU OK?"
