21.01.2022 www.blissfitnwell.com/tribe Mums, here is what we explored on Day 10 of the 14 Day Wellbeing Tribe Challenge ‘Move it or lose it’ the facts.... You should do 10,000 steps a day, right? Wrong! Did you know that the concept of doing 10,000 steps a day came from a marketing campaign? It was founded in Japan in the lead-up to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. There was no research or evidence to support this it was a strategy to sell step counters! The same concept was then revisited in 2001 by Australian health researchers to try and encourage people to be more active. I believe anything that encourages people to move more is a good thing. An Australian study from 2015 suggests that each 1,000-step increase per day reduced the risk of dying prematurely of any cause by 6%, with those taking 10,000 or more steps having a 46% lower risk of early death. Those stats are inspiring! Your challenge. If you wear a fitness tracker, work out your average steps for the last week. Add 5000 steps to your weekly average and that is your goal for this week! Don’t wear a fitness tracker? Reflect on the minutes or hours of activity you did last week including walking, sport, or any other exercise. Add an extra 60 minutes to your weekly average and that is your goal for this week! Let me know how you go with this activity please share your photos, challenges, wins or general thoughts!

01.01.2022 For day 7 in the Wellbeing Tribe Challenge we explored ‘Glorious gratitude’. Here are the facts - ‘Gratitude can change your brain’. That is a pretty bold statement but one supported by the researchers at the Greater Good Science Centre at UC Berkeley. There have been many studies to suggest that people who count their blessings are happier and less depressed, but most of those studies were carried out on well-functioning people. What about those people with mental health c...hallenges? How does gratitude help them? Berkeley researchers carried out their own study on 300 university students all seeking counselling for depression and anxiety. They divided the cohort into three groups all groups received counselling however one group was encouraged to write a letter of gratitude to someone each week, another group was asked to write their thoughts around negative experiences and the third group received counselling only. Learn the results of the studying by reading the full article here - https://greatergood.berkeley.edu//how_gratitude_changes_yo Our challenge Each day, for three days, write three things you are grateful for. You can be grateful for absolutely anything! The sun, running water, your health, money, food in the fridge, kids going to bed on time, your partner putting the toilet seat down anything! Record what you are grateful for, why you are grateful for it and how it makes you feel. Record your thoughts on post it notes, in a journal or even on this thread! Let me know how you go with this activity please share your photos, challenges, wins or general thoughts! www.blissfitnwell.com.au/tribe
