24.01.2022 As the holiday season is fast approaching, you may have scheduled in more time to spend with the family at home. For those parents with younger children, here are five strategies for making the most of that time and promoting early language use. This helps the parent and child to connect more easily, allowing each to hear a...nd see the other’s messages. 2. Create opportunities for the child to lead. Set up a temptation for your child to communicate. For example, partially open boxes and wait for the child to ask for more or help. 3. Join in and play! Let yourself play like a child! Incorporate fun sounds and words. Use your own toys, copy what your child is doing. This helps your child to engage in the interaction. 4. Repeat, repeat, repeat key words and pair them with actions in different scenarios. This will help the child to understand words in various contexts. 5. Add one more word. If your child says a word, you might add another word to expand their phrase length. For example, if your child says car, you might say: red car.
