25.01.2022 Today celebrates 12 months in full-time private practice! And what a year it has been. Lots of ups and downs (thanks covid-19), but I've enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to my wonderful clients and families who make my work day so enjoyable and fulfilling. Thanks to my family and friends for all of your support! Now to have a coffee and a piece of cake to celebrate!
24.01.2022 Wishing all my clients and families a special Easter. It certainly feels a little different this year but stay safe, stay connected and enjoy some chocolate
22.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers and grandmothers I work with
22.01.2022 It's book week! And we get to talk about books which is one of my favourite topics! Here we are writing and drawing a picture about dressing up as Sleeping Beauty. A simple but fun activity
22.01.2022 Thank you to all my lovely clients and families for another great year! Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones. See you next year!
21.01.2022 Celebrating Apraxia Awareness Day - 14 May 2020 Apraxia is a speech sound disorder which affects motor planning movements for speech. I've been lucky enough to work with some special kids with apraxia over the last nearly twenty years (oh wow has it been that long??). The children and their families I have worked with have shown such motivation and determination to improve their speech. They are an inspiration!
13.01.2022 Sometimes therapy plans change when you see an opportunity to provide support around an upcoming event. We wrote a story about a robot who was sick and had to go to hospital. We made sure the robot got to eat lots of ice cream to help his sore throat feel better. Best wishes on your surgery next week little guy
10.01.2022 It has been so wonderful to get back to face to face sessions this week! Look at how engaged these children are in learning. I love that I can include such a variety of activities into therapy. That's why my cupboard is full to overflowing with therapy activities and resources! It's so important to follow a child's lead and interests too (eg. Is that a robot at the beach?). Therapy activities at home and during sessions can be simple. There's really no need for expensive toys. See how much fun you can have with blocks, a book, puzzle and drawing. And remember we all learn better when we are having fun!
10.01.2022 I'm so excited to be starting face to face sessions in my clinic tomorrow! But there are a few things to remember: Please reschedule your session if your child has or has had a fever, cough, body rash with itching, and/or vomiting/diarrhea within the past 24 hours Please sanitise your hands and your child's hands upon arrival at the clinic... Please cover your cough or sneeze and wash hands if this occurs Also things to note: I have downloaded the COVID Safe App and will have my phone with me during sessions and home/kindy/school visits I will wipe down tables/chairs/toys/resources between sessions I will use sanitiser or wash my hands at the beginning and end of each session I look forward to seeing you all this week. Please let me know if you have any questions.
10.01.2022 So great to be back into the swing of things for the last term of 2020. These guys worked really hard in their speech sessions today (and we had a lot of fun too!!)
10.01.2022 Wow what a week! Or a few weeks really! I'm making the transition to Telehealth for the time being.... And for those who know me, know I don't do technology all that well!! I feel so grateful for the support of my Speechie peers (huge thanks to Rachael!) and my teenage boys for their help in navigating this transition. And of course a big thankyou to my wonderful clients who are open to trying speech therapy sessions in a different way.... Look at this champion today, playing the 'R' game with me over Telehealth! He loved every minute of it!
09.01.2022 Welcome back to 2021! After a refreshing break, Grace and I are ready to get back into providing speech pathology services next week. We have a busy schedule but if you have any concerns with your child's communication skills please get in contact
08.01.2022 We had a great time with playdough today using the Aided Language Stimulation boards. This little guy loved it and after I modelled requesting and commenting with a few visuals, he started to do it too! Yes I can 'help' and we can 'roll' and 'squeeze' the playdough too. Did you want to do some 'cutting'? It's so important to model how to use the visuals and not just expect a child to use the visuals on the first go. Great work little man!
07.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and grandfathers of the clients I work with. Enjoy this special day
06.01.2022 Lots of fun with this lovely lady for our last session of the year! We had lots of games - but still worked on asking and answering questions, following rules, staying on topic, taking turns and winning/losing graciously. What a super star
06.01.2022 What a fantastic online session with this little star! We built playdough towers - lots and lots of times! The goal of increasing time on task was definitely achieved today! We also focused on concepts (big/little, high, up/down), verbs (build, wobble, fall, crash), naming and matching colours, taking turns and requesting 'more' or 'finish' with visual cues. An example of a simple but very fun activity!
05.01.2022 I'm very excited to introduce Grace to my little speech pathology business. Grace has five years experience working with a range of clients and will be working one day/week at the clinic or on home/school visits. Welcome Grace! It's so great to have you onboard!
03.01.2022 It certainly has been a different first week back of term 2! Online sessions are zooming along but I'm definitely missing seeing my clients in person.... Time to catch up on some jobs though like printing, laminating and cutting visuals (with coffee of course!). Visuals are a great way to help people follow directions, make requests, make choices and follow routines. These ones will be useful for one particular client who can use the visual to request to play on his new trike!
03.01.2022 Happy Speech Pathology week! It is a week when I reflect on why I do what I do..... This little guy had a great session yesterday. Time on task Joint attention Following directions Using some words/phrases Pretend play Enjoyment I honestly can't think of a better job to have!!
03.01.2022 Therapy is about sharing, creating, problem solving, taking turns and enjoying time together!
