23.01.2022 Some of my clients have expressed how hard it's been trying to explain to their younger children why they have to stay at home now and what a virus is. This social script might help. 23.01.2022 Will struggled significantly throughout his schooling and suffered the all too common, soft bigotry of low expectations from his teachers and allied health prof...essionals hired to support him...until he found that one person who enabled him to shine. Now Will enables other children to shine. Will's struggles drove him to prove his detractors wrong...he is tantalisingly close to completing his PhD. #CodeREaD #dyslexia
19.01.2022 WHY W-SITTING CAN HINDER CERTAIN AREAS OF MY CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT "In this position, a child cannot achieve active trunk rotation and cannot shift his weight ove...r each side making it difficult to reach toys that are outside of their immediate reach. It is so important for kids to be able to weight shift and rotate in order to develop adequate balance reactions, for developing the ability to cross midline, and to have access to the movement needed to attain other important developmental milestones." https://theinspiredtreehouse.com/child-melting-look-w-sitt/

17.01.2022 Three sounds of the suffix -ed When phonics needs a helping hand from morphology! We are always telling our students to listen to the sounds in words as they sp...ell them. Then they diligently listen to the sounds and spell 'jumpt' and 'landid'! At this point we need to reach out to morphology. In order to help our students with their spelling (this is a spelling issue not a reading issue), we need to teach the following: 1. The suffix -ed has in important job to do: It is a word-ending that makes sure that everyone understands that the action in the sentence happened in the past. If the -ed wasn't there, we wouldn't know this. 2. The suffix -ed is pronounced in three different ways: /t/, /d/ and /id/. This is because it is difficult to say the sound /d/ after some consonant sounds. Here is an info-graphic to help explain this to kids.
16.01.2022 This program represents fantastic evidence based literacy teaching. I've just finished my Sounds-Write training and can't wait to introduce it to the families I work with. I know I will be able to have a much greater impact on the reading and spelling skills of clients thanks to everything I learnt through this program. Highly recommend this training to teachers and Speech Pathologists wanting evidence based literacy teaching that will give students maximum success.
14.01.2022 Many parents often ask me for ideas for literacy apps to help their children with strengthening their early literacy skills. Hence, I’m sharing the below link with you so you can have a look at a few recommended options that use a synthetic phonics approach. You can watch the video of a child playing the listed apps to see which ones you think your child might like. I have a few of these apps, but not all, so if you come across one that you decide to try and find it’s a great hit, please let me know. https://www.spelfabet.com.au//top-early-literacy-apps-2020/
13.01.2022 These look good!
05.01.2022 I've seen quite a few children with reading problems do this and had at the time thought it was possibly a visual scanning problem they were exhibiting, but this article explains much more clearly what the underlying problem was - the approach used to teach them to read. Many of these children had been through a reading recovery program or were taught with a reading recovery approach in their early years of school.
04.01.2022 This review of the Reading Eggs program is worth a read!
