25.01.2022 The boss is 1/3 of the way to his $1500 target, raising money for the Tasmanian homeless. Please help Haig and donate if you can, every dollar helps!
24.01.2022 As winter beckons in Tasmania, it reminds us of two years ago when the roof blew off the Ben Lomond Ski Rental building. Spidertech responded as quickly as possible, in icy conditions installing abseil anchors and providing a temporary make safe until the summer season allowed for full repairs. #serioussafety #tasmania #benlomond #workingatheights #buildingmaintenance

22.01.2022 Our apologies to anyone who's tried to call us this morning, our land lines are out of service due to a Telco issue. Please email us with any inquiries on [email protected] and we'll call you back ASAP.
20.01.2022 Spidertech Managing Director Haig Rice completed the Salvos Sleepout last night and had this to say: "Wow, what a night. Hanging out with such a dedicated bunch of supporters and great folk with lived experiences. Humbling to hear their stories first hand and to hear of the difficulties and courage required to turn things around. Thankful to have been able to do something but clearly so much more needs to be done. I say a big thank you to all my supporters. Cant believe we raised over $2,000 and well over $40,000 for the program. Well done everyone." Hobart Salavation Army The Salvation Army Australia
20.01.2022 TECHNICIAN UPGRADES In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continually exploring ways to support our members and technicians. We are aware that government... restrictions are gradually being lifted in some regions and that our technicians are actively seeking out training courses, albeit in-line with local legislation. Our Executive Committee have decided that technicians who have been granted a COVID-19 certification extension are eligible to undergo upgrade training and assessment, e.g. Level 1 to Level 2, with their extended certification. TECHNICIAN UPGRADE ENTRY ON THE IRATA ONLINE SYSTEM When entering upgrade technician assessments into the IRATA Online System (IOS), for candidates who have been granted a COVID-19 certification extension, Training Member Companies (TMCs) should proceed to enter the assessment as a re-registration at their current level. IRATAs Registrations Department will subsequently amend the IOS record to reflect the correct assessment outcome and in accordance with the Assessment Day Form (ADF) provided by the TMC. Example: John Smith Level 1 certification expires on 10/04/2020 John Smith granted certification extension until 09/07/2020 John Smith had an upgrade assessment at Level 2 on 15/05/2020, this assessment should be entered by the TMC as a Level 1 re-register in the IOS the level of assessment will be amended by the IRATA Registrations Department upon assessment processing. Please note the above only applies to technicians who have received a certification extension. In-date candidates who have not received a certification extension should be processed by TMCs in the normal way. CERTIFICATION EXTENSIONS Technicians certification extension should not be assumed until the candidate has received notification from IRATA and their updated expiry date is shown on the IRATA Technician check tool here - https://irata.org/verify 60-DAY REASSESSMENT PERIOD It has been determined that, in the following cases, technicians will be eligible for a 90-day extension to the normal 60-day period for assessment, or reassessment, in cases where they: failed an assessment (upgrade or revalidation) and could not reassess within the 60-day allowable period, due to COVID-19 containment measures; attended 4 days of training but did not undergo assessment due to COVID-19 containment measures; or had partial training (courses that were stopped before the course was completed, due to COVID-19 containment measures). If a candidate is granted a 90-day extension, this will mean they have the normal 60 days to be assessed, or reassessed, plus the extra 90 days (150 days in total). REFRESHER TRAINING Technicians who have not used rope access methods for a period of 180 days or more are required to undergo refresher training. As per our Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS) [TC-101], refresher training can be completed on a work site by a Level 3 technician if such refresher training is not carried out during operational duties. As refresher training is integral to a rope access technicians safety and does not require attendance at an IRATA Training Member Company, dispensation will not be granted to the requirement of attending refresher training. 17.01.2022 Recently Spidertech invested in a pedal powered transport solution in the form of two electric cargo bikes. Were very excited with the addition and look forward to reducing the number of vehicles used during operations... not to mention no parking headaches around town! Managing Director Haig Rice explains, "Starting the working day with a light ride where you can apply a lot of physical exertion, or very little, but always have the wind in your hair; it lifts peoples spi...rit and focuses the mind. Everyone becomes more productive and happier for it. 14.01.2022 Were very proud to have been a small part in the journey of Catching Your Breath installation in the new Royal Hobart Hospital K-Block reception area. Spidertech first started working with Tasmanian artist Keith Dougall Artist in March 2019, with the final installation occurring in April 2020. Our primary role in the project was how to temporarily suspend the artwork at ground level for the glass to be installed in to the stainless steel mesh sacks, and then lift the loaded... sacks up to install height and transfer the load to the fixed length stainless steel dropper. This was accomplished by a system of haul ropes and redirect ropes to keep the sacks away from the reception windows and walls, with the final haul of each ~140kg net utilising our ActSafe AB ACX Powered Winch. Obviously with a delicate medium such as blown glass, large care and consideration of the movement of each net was required. Thank you to Keith and his team for allowing Spidertech to be a part of this very special installation. The full story, video and photos can be found at: https://www.catchingyourbreath.net.au/ From the artists website: "Catching Your Breath is a powerful symbol of life, refreshment and hope. Suspended in the new K-Block reception area of Royal Hobart Hospital, the artwork is comprised of over 300 human breaths captured from patients, visitors and staff, and sealed into uniquely shaped hand-blown glass bubbles. The breath bubbles have been grouped into seven large bundles of breath supported in woven stainless steel nets that appear like giant refreshing rain drops, or tears, descending from heaven."

02.01.2022 To our valued Spidertech and Spidertech Supplies clients, In light of our new found requirement for social distancing and concern for our fellow humans, we wanted to give you a quick update from Spidertech HQ. Were closely following all updates regarding COVID-19, and are implementing best practise as advised by the Department of Health and the World Health Organisation.... At this time Spidertech has implemented the following changes; All management of the business is taking place from home, minimising contact between staff. We have established discrete work parties who will remain independent from each other to reduce the risk of the whole business becoming non-operational due to a single infection. This includes vehicles, tools and equipment and depot location. All hygiene procedures are in place with regards to washing hands, workspaces, vehicles and equipment. These measures aside, Spidertech is operating as per normal. With appropriate task and site specific risk assessments, we will continue to undertake work for our clients. Our responsibility to our workers, our clients and to the public is un-changed. We will provide a safe and healthy work place as best as is reasonably practicable. As new advice from the authorities is announced, Spidertech will adapt as needed. Spidertech Supplies have made the decision to change our retail outlet to by-appointment only. If you would like to visit us at the Worley St shop, please call ahead. Our webstore is still operating as per normal, with pickup and freight options available. All orders will be processed as quickly as possible. We note that some Australian importers may start feeling the pinch for stock levels coming from international suppliers. We ask for your patience as we work with them to get your orders together as quickly as possible. As a Tasmanian small business, we encourage all local business and government to continue offering and developing work opportunities in our community. Were all going to feel some effect from this pandemic, and hope that we can assist each other through this time.
