20.03.2022 Balance. Some days it’s there, other days you fall. Research shows that yoga helps to improve balance for the elderly by reducing their fear of falling and improving confidence! #yogaresearch #yogascience #yogabalance #balanace #yoga #sunrise #spirited #livefully #practice #dailypractice #dontfearfalling

08.03.2022 Last October the International Journal on the Biology of Stress published an article shining light on the positive impacts of laughter yoga! Meier et al. explored the impacts of laughter yoga on autonomic, endocrine, and psychological responses to stress. What’d they find? That laughter yoga reduces cortisol stress response. 23.01.2022 In a study of uni-lateral breath, researchers explored the cognitive impacts of nostril breathing. They looked at how people would perform in tasks after only breathing through the left or right nostril. They discovered that those who breathed through the left exclusively performed better on spacial reasoning tasks (right-brain) whereas those who breathed through the right exclusively performed better on verbal tasks (left-brain). This shows promise for the use of alternate nostril breathing in treating hemisphereic imbalances. Or, on a more practical level you can exclusively breath through the right nostril before your next language class! 22.01.2022 This year a study was published in the Cognitive Therapy and Research Journal that spoke of the impacts of Hatha yoga on smoking cessation. The lungs are key in yoga and keeping them healthy is paramount to a deeper practice! Research is now showing that Hatha yoga helps people when quitting smoking because of its ability to soothe anxiety (Lewis et al., 2020). To me what this shows is that even if you develop ‘bad’ habits along the way, keeping a consistent yoga practice can always bring you back to your highest self. #yogascience #yogaresearch #yogaforanxiety #yogaforsmokingcessation #healthylungs #begoodtoyourself

21.01.2022 A study on Ashtanga Yogis explored the relationship between proprioception (awareness of the body in space) and self-transcendence (Fiori et al., 2014). Participants were administered the "Rod and Frame Test" in which they assessed the verticality of a line in a box while being shown deceptive visual queues. The team found that yogis who were evaluated to be highly self-transcendent performed better on the test. This means that through the practice of yoga we are able to use ...internal queues to assess the outside world! Interested in reading more? Send me a message and I'll send you the full article! 09.01.2022 @sophiagte has been looking into some awesome research as she does her first 6-week Hatha Course! Metaphysics and Yoga, where health and sciene meet. A study (Balaji, Varne, Sadat) proved that meditation has the ability to prevent the development of diseases and protects you against them. They main focus was the effect of meditation on the human cells. It's amazing! If you are as curious as we are, check the whole study on https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3482773/ or make a look in the nobel prize winners book the telomere effect from Dr. Elisabeth Blackburn. #yogaresearch #yogascience #students #teachers #yogainstructor #learning #metaphysics #cellularlevelyoga

08.01.2022 When I left the US in 2015 I had no idea what an incredible adventure I would have! From delving into research in Hong Kong and wrangling goats in Colombia I've been able to see the world and grow my soul in incredible ways. SPIRITED is my vision for enabling self-education through research. Often in our spiritual practices we experience transformation, know it exists but have a hard time interpreting it to others. Research serves this purpose in our practices by igniting in...quiry and critical analysis. Through a new online course, a platform for finding research articles, and an adventure blog for community posts, I hope to help the next generation of yoga teachers (and all spiritual beings) think like scientists. Many exciting updates are going to come in the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to explore your self-growth. For now, I'm excited to share an updated online presence! www.funspirited.com https://www.instagram.com/spirit.ed/

05.01.2022 Inversions are my yoga cryptonite. In the 14 years I’ve been practicing even just the thought of inversions draws up immense anxiety and fear. I struggle to trust myself, trust in my ability to support myself, and trust that if I fall I will be able to get back up. Yoga has helped me to embrace literal and figurative falling with less fear. In their 2016 study, Narjes et al. found that yoga helps to reduce fear of falling in older adults. I haven’t found any research to support it, but I believe it’s true of all people! I’m still practicing, the inversions aren’t perfect, but finally I’m getting a bit of hang time and am not afraid to practice without the wall. Though I don’t always believe it, I can trust myself, and I can fall and fail knowing that there is always a chance to try again.

04.01.2022 Showing up is the yoga. Distractions will come and go. The magic happens when you’re there for yourself with love.
