25.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday We all have heroes whom we admire.. Some may be fictional and some may be real. But if you don't see yourself as the hero of your own life then youre disrespecting yourself and what responsibility you have for the situation you're in. Regardless of your imperfections, don't devalue yourself. And don't judge yourself unfavourably.... You may not be perfect. But no one, not even me, is perfect. And you've got to accept that and own it. Now move on. Keep walking forwards. You can be the hero of your own story who wakes up on Monday morning and decides enough is enough and you will rewrite your own story. Be honest with yourself and know that life is short. Life is not about your work, your past, all the times you've stuffed up, all the times you've made the wrong decision, all the times you thought you couldn't go on. These circumstances are not you. You are a different person that who you were last year, last month, last week. You are the person who has learned from all these experiences. The only mistake is if you don't learn from those mistakes. The only mistake is not moving on. And you need to make a change today. Set simple goals and achieve it. Then set another simple goal and achieve it. And continue this. Even a simple goal as smiling, and enjoying your day. Achieve this goal, and on to the next goal. Real personal change and growth comes when you get knocked down; When you fail. It takes courage to act, to look up, get up, and start over again. To change for the better. To do what few others would do. My #barefootjourney has taught me perspective, gratitude, discipline, compassion, resilience, love, and friendship. I think that that is the true meaning of being a Martial Artist, and possibly being a good person. I hope you feel the same way. And hopefully being good at one, will make you better at being the other. Drsimonlew Photography

25.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday During the week I was humbled to attend the Australian Sports Performance Awards. Congratulating the amazing achievements and contributions of the Australian sporting community. It was the cumulation of years of dedication, focus, commitment, and conscious deliberate determined effort from all athletes and sports leaders.... A fit and strong body does not come from periodic application. You cannot buy it. You cannot be given it. You cannot inherit it. And it takes time and a lot of commitment to keep it. It reveals your work ethic. It reveals your character. In the same way your morals, character or any other human virtue - courage, courtesy, integrity, compassion - does not come from periodic application. You also cannot buy, inherit or be given it. Excellence of character or any other virtue must come from praticing it day in day out. It shows wisdom, sincere effort, patience, discipline, high intention, and intelligent execution. Simply do good every day. That's where it starts. And when you know better, you must do better. Because you should. So it's Monday morning. Are you going to do what is needed to put you on the path for the life you want? Drsimonlew Photography

25.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday There have been many times where I have tried to find balance in my life. But that may not necessarily be a good thing. Because you have to understand that life, like combat, is ruthless, uncertain, unpredictable, and generally revolves around chaos. ... Chaos generally elicits fear. But you shouldn't dismiss fear as Batman did in the Dark Knight Rises; You need to use fear to overcome the chaos, the fear. You do need to let some fear into your life to move forwards. If you are truly afraid, you will listen. If you are truly afraid you will admit that you're lost, ask for help, and ask questions. If you're truly afraid you will become motivated, driven, and inspired to grow in order to get out of the situation you're stuck in. Sometimes, you need to distance yourself from who you may think is good for you. Oftentimes we use the excuse that these people are holding you back when the truth is that you yourself are using them as an excuse not to move forwards - your "rope". Sometimes you need to left got of this "rope" that's been holding you back in order to rise out of the "pit" that you've been stuck in to be ready to live the life you were meant to. So I believe you have to have the courage to be able to live in some ambiguity. You have to choose to live a life where your mind and heart can be in equipoise. Equanimity: Where you can live in fear and not be held back, and still move forwards. Be where you can live in joy and not be held back by your success by resting the laurels of your past, and still move forwards. So tomorrow, let some fear in, some uncertainty, some chaos. And live. Use fear to make you commit you to decide you want something better. Use fear to commit you to make a decision to live differently. Use fear to make to take that first step, and act. Use fear to make you "rinse, spit, and repeat". Crave the life you want to live so intensely, that the fear becomes irrelevant. Drsimonlew Photography

24.01.2022 In the media there is so much smallness, meanness and pettiness in our current state of politics, sports matches, and even in public life. It is almost as if we are celebrating meanness. But what should we be celebrating?... We should be celebrating striving to be better. To do better. To be worthy of what our parents put us on this earth for. The pettiness and people pretending to be tough and brave, but in fact often they are not. Be bigger and better. There are some things bigger than fame, money, power. There are some things worthwhile fighting for. To do good and to do the right thing. Taekwondo and martial arts has shown me a lot of similarities to life. There are going to be ups and downs, successes and defeats, trauma and growth. Martial arts has also shown me that you cannot allow hurt, anger, or loss to hold you back into your next fight on the mat. What happened has already happened. But it doesn't have to hold you down. Because I believe it's all about what you give. If you leave it all on the mat... Then it doesn't matter what the score is at the end of the fight.. You have won. Because you became more. Because you gave more. And this extends to your life.. It's all about what you give, what you put in. Because that's what makes us break free of mediocrity, safety, and comfort. Because that's what makes us become something more. As much as the world gives you obstacles, You need to stay positive and not let life's viciousness change you or harden your heart. Others cannot tell you what it take to be a good man. Society cannot define what it means to be a good man. Understand that you are already Good enough. It's Monday tomorrow, and in my heart I will continue to always love first. I will always love more than others deserve. I will always love more than I'll ever hate. I will always see the better in someone or a situation. Forever an optimist. Forever a romantic. Forever a dreamer. And I hope I can inspire you to feel the same. Drsimonlew Photography

24.01.2022 My Spirit Do Black Belt Journey continues! Today I spent to day as a van driver (including high visibility safety vest) and face painter for Christmas party for my Vinnies youth group. There was a lot of face paint, and unfortunately no face painter turned up, so I rolled up my sleeves and thought I'd have a go! I've never face painted in my life and art is not my strongest skill ... But with Google and a steady hand and a long line of customers, I think I could start up another business: children's parties! The smiles on the kids faces will be something I'll never forget, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have possibly brightened up the day of an "at risk/ in need" child. Always striving to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. To be compassionate and the be courageous to try something new. And never ever giving up. #spiritdo #blackbeltjourney #warriorsjourney

23.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday This is the mindset you need to have. So many are focused on what we get caught up in day in day out. But, it all starts with the mind. Never rely on others what what you think you need or lack. Often times you already have the resources inside, hidden away under layers of self-doubt, procrastination, lack of patience. ... You deserve everything you want in life. You deserve to live your life to its fullest. Remember, if you want better, you must make yourself better. Never feel guilty for living your own life. You don't have to live your life with flash and like a highlights reel. Sometimes you just have to say to yourself quietly in the night: I will try again tomorrow. Make your thoughts become actions and your actions become habits. And your habits will become results and your results become your greatness. Drsimonlew Photography See more

23.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Excellence is a mostly lonely path. Excellence is mostly an unbalanced life. We live in a world where we are all trying to fit in: school, work, friends, teams, groups, etc. ... But who do we admire most in the world? The ones who stand out. The ones who don't stand for the status quo. The ones who dare to go out on a limb. It's OK to be the square peg in the round hole. Remembering that it's OK to live a life no one else understands; to live a life that isn't "normal". When people tell you you're crazy, they just can't fathom or get to your level. They want you to "fit into their box". They want you to fit into their limitations. It's OK to live outside the limitations created by others and even those limitations you create in your own mind. Remembering that it's NOT OK to give up on your dreams or not following your passion or not following your dreams and your ambitions. Remembering that it's NOT OK to make up excuses because of what people say. So go and live life on your terms and forget the naysayers. It's Monday tomorrow. Call your own shots. Show the world what's possible. It's not going to be balanced or smooth sailing. Only you know if it's worth it or not. You have a choice. Are you going to go for it? Drsimonlew Photography

22.01.2022 Don't let past mistakes and poor judgement stop you from striving to be a better man, or a better woman. .. Your circumstances don't define you. Let your intentions define you. It's not about your past or your present.... It's about where you're going. .. Strive to do good, And strive to be great. But most of all - strive to be great at doing good. Drsimonlew Photography

22.01.2022 Spirit: You don’t know the power of your words and actions. Be mindful and lead by example. Aspire to be the person that other refer to as their life changer. Jung Shin

22.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday For me: achieving success in various aspirations in life can be distilled into 5 simple rules. 1. Working hard and perseverance. Never giving up. Ever. This is a given - you reap what you sow. Simple.... 2. Being a perfectionist. You don't have to be perfect, but strive to make as few errors as possible. Especially with important things in your life. Double check your work, triple check your work. Be your own worst critic. Demand more from yourself than anyone else could ever ask of you. 3. Be organised. You cannot wing life, as much as we don't ever feel like it. Even just a little bit. Write down your projects and plans. And discipline your emotions. You're not going to feel like you're ready all the time, but just taking action is what will move you forwards. And busy is not an excuse, you must deliver results. Your time is limited. So take urgenct action. 4. Following your heart to make the right decision. Find what you live in life and in doing. When you were an 18 year old, you had so many dreams, and nothing seemed to be in your way. But as you go through life, society tells you to play safe, stay in your lane, keep in the box. Also your brain is a 2 million year old machine - conditioned to keep you safe, away from harm, away from change, away from anything different, away from growth. People's limitations, and your brain can ruin you. Your heart knows best, your heart is your best compass, and sometimes just going for it is what you need to do. 5. Embrace pain, change and chaos. Pain will motivate and drive you. Pain will show you never to make the same mistake again. Without pain growth and change, you will not grow outside of what you already are. This has worked for me. Now take it, copy it, refine it, and make it your own. Take action. Spit. Rinse. Repeat. Give it all you've got. And own it. I want to demand of you: Greatness. And greatness demands from you everything. So make today yours. Drsimonlew Photography

21.01.2022 This week.. Today... Yesterday.... I wish you to:... Strive to be better. To do better. To be worthy of all the reasons why you've been put on this earth. BE bigger than you think you are. And DO better than you know you are. Drsimonlew Photography

21.01.2022 I don't believe we can "have" happiness or "have" sadness. I don't believe we "have" joy or "have" fear. Emotions are our reactions to our environment. We cannot hope the perfect emotion happens by random chance when we are faced with challenges. ... It is our responsibility to control our emotions because we can control it. Because we can choose what emotion we want to inject into any certain situation. No, you're not ever going to feel perfect emotionally in any given situation all the time. But, you can decide what reaction you want to have, and keep moving forwards. Doing this will build on your skills of confidence and courage. I don't feel joy and happiness every single day. But I choose to walk in joy and live in happiness. Do it often enough and this will become habit. Drsimonlew Photography

21.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday It's been 12 months since I graded for my third dan black belt at Spirit Taekwondo. There were many times I did not think I was ready.... I remember there were many times I did not think I was going to make it. There were many times I was afraid. There were many times I did not think my body could take any further punishment. But I do remember one thing: to kihap. With each kihap and shout my kicks and punches became more efficient, and my bruises didn't hurt as much, I remember my spirit grew, and the rounds of sparring seemed shorter, and the end seemed closer. I'm not ever going to be a great Taekwondo practitioner, some days I can't even though my knees let alone my toes. I may have to practice Taekwondo in a slightly different way than others. I might need to rest more and catch my breath more than others. But what I do is that I'm not going to stop, and I won't stop fighting. And I'll never ever give up. I do quote great people every week to inspire you, but mostly to inspire me. But you cannot simply let my quotes and my writings make you achieve greatness as it discounts your own abilities. We all have our own journeys to go through. And as we go through it, we will grow through it. If you are reading this, I want to inspire you to do one more rep, one more kick, stay up and study one more hour, spend one more hour developing yourself. Go for that challenge. Test yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and forgive yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and love yourself. I want to inspire you to be a better man. I want to inspire you to be a better woman. It's Monday tomorrow morning. Make it the day you make whatever you believe in happen. Quotes won't work unless you do. So when you wake up in the morning, go and get to work. Drsimonlew Photography

20.01.2022 This is precisely the mindset you need to have. So many are focused on what we get caught up in day in day out. But, it all starts with the mind. Never rely on others what what you think you need or lack. Often times you already have the resources inside, hidden away under layers of self-doubt, procrastination, lack of patience.... Life does not owe you anything. If you want a better life, you have to go and act on it. And it starts with you. If you want better, you must make yourself better. Today you make that declaration. That you believe you have the abilities and resources. Believe in yourself. Convince yourself before you try to convince anyone else. Don't wait for the branch to break to see if you can fly. Believe. And just fly. Drsimonlew Photography

20.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Choice is a powerful tool available in your hands for your use each of the 86400 seconds in each day of your life. You have to choose to be different by living different to how people dictate you should.... You have to choose to approach everything you do with integrity. We all have that ability. It needs to transcend across everything you do. It's not a switch you turn on and off. The only person you can be is the greatest version of yourself. If you want to have a great life, you have to work hard every day on progressing, learning, and striving to be the best person you can be. And remember: You don't have to compromise on being the best person you can be and being nice. You don't have to compromise between being compassionate and being confrontational. You should be able to apply the same approach to all things in life. Be driven to be great and be driven to be kind. Be driven to dominate and be driven to do good. Choose to live differently. Choose to life by a calibre and a code that no one else would be willing to live by. Choose to surprise the world by your kind actions. Choose to do better. Choose to be better. @drsimonlew

20.01.2022 Today I was humbled to be coordinator for the day for my Vinnies Youth group out for the day again. I hope that the kids under our care can look at my St Vincent De Paul youth group and know that: We care.... They matter. There is hope. And anything is possible. That they too, can also make a difference. And if we don't give up on them. We hope that they won't give up on themselves. Ever. This is my #spiritdo #blackbeltjourney My #barefootjourney Drsimonlew Photography

19.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Everyone says it all starts with your actions. That it all starts below your neck.... I strongly believe it all starts in your head. It all starts above your neck. It starts with your thoughts. What drives you? Why work this hard? Why go this far? Why try to learn it? Why try to do it? Why take on this much responsibility? Why develop yourself to the fullest? Why try to develop every skill you possibly can? Why try to be the best of what you can become? Why try to earn as much as you can earn? Why share as much as you can share? Why give back as much you can give? Why? Only you know why. From this your small seed of your Why grows your reason to take action. It will grow to define you. Your Why will change your "I should" to "I must". So make your positive thoughts become positive actions and your positive actions become positive habits. And your positive habits become positive results and your positive results ultimately become your greatness. Doubting yourself is normal, it's human. Letting it stop you is a choice. Your choice. So choose to decide. Choose to commit and act. Rinse and repeat - as your friendly dentist will tell you to do . Drsimonlew Photography

19.01.2022 When you can’t make it to the Dojang for a training session but know that I need to continue with my training regime! Regardless of 4 seasons in one day. Whether it be 35 degree heat or rain and gale force winds being forecast! Time waits for no man!

18.01.2022 Some days life just sucks. I get it. Even when your whole world seems to be crumbling down around you. ... Even when you feel yourself falling apart you don't know how you'll ever be whole again. Even when you feel your endless tears will drown you. The Strength, Courage, Persistence, Fortitude, Resilience you are looking for........... You already have these within you. It just looks different in different people. Through the pain, the tears, and the struggle you will find what you are looking for. Anything worth having, is worth fighting for. And you yourself, are worth fighting for. I don't ask you to prove something to me, or to anyone else. All I ask is that you prove something to yourself. Put one foot in front of the other. And you will become unstoppable. Don't fear the fire, don't run from the fire. Just become the fire. Drsimonlew Photography

18.01.2022 There are times when I know I'm not going to win. There are times when I know I'm going be be destroyed. But I choose to live by a code, a set of unwavering principles. ... So... If I can just last the distance.. If I can just cross that finish line.. Even though you got knocked down. If I can still get back up onto my feet again. If I can last the distance. If you can say you gave it your all, and say you were never humbled. And that you still lived life with integrity. Then I can live with that. Life is going to give me another battle. And I'm going to continue to fight. Because that's what warriors do. Because that's what fighters do. Through out the ups and especially the downs. Cross that finish line with both your chin and your hand held up high... Believe. And tell yourself this: I am unstoppable. I still prevailed. And.. I am still Undefeated. Drsimonlew Photography

17.01.2022 "Some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright, their songs too sweet and wild." If you've been caged by your situation, circumstances, habits. Realise that you deserve better.... And choose to heal, grow, look up, get up and go get some. Drsimonlew Photography See more

17.01.2022 I've always struggled to do the little things that will improve my life. Like you - I too have some incredible ideas and sometimes I think I just lack motivation. But that's not true. What I've realised is that our brains are a 2 million year old organ designed to keep us safe, comfortable, to keep us alive.... But in order to change, to be the best student, spouse, business person, parent you're going to have to get uncomfortable with difficult or scary situations. What the martial arts and all my coaches, instructors, teachers, and professors have taught me is one key thing: Discipline. And discipline can be used throughout your life beyond the mat. Discipline is not a punishment, when you realise that it can get you to where you want to go. Discipline to eat the right food when I don't feel like it. To exercise when I don't feel like it. Doing the tasks that I don't want to or like to do but which will make my life better. Disciplining my emotions so that I can make the right decisions. People should not know you just because you're a top student, a great parent, a good spouse, a great sales person, a good boss.. People should know you for one key thing first: Because you work. Because you are there on time. Because of your work ethic. Because you're delivering. Because it doesn't matter how good you are or think you are, if you're not functioning at the level where people wonder - "how do you do that?" - it doesn't mean a thing. It's Monday tomorrow, Now get to work and Just do it. Drsimonlew Photography

16.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday There were many times I used to say: "I'll try to do this", or "I'll try to to do that", "I'll try to be there." Funny thing is.... Quite often what I said I would "try" never actually eventuated....... Choice is powerful. Never use the word "try". "Try" is a dangerous word. Either you do or you don't. Never "try." Because "try" is a crutch. Because "try" is an excuse. I don't use the word "try" anymore. Yes or no. Don't live in ambiguity. Don't live a life of quiet desperation. Live a life of your own choosing. And if you're unsure and need help. Don't be afraid to ask for help... Help to lead you from where you are to where you need to be. Make a choice. Decide on the choice. Commit to the choice. Act on the choices. And never "try" And then never look back. Drsimonlew Photography

16.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Over two years ago for my #spiritdo #blackbeltjourney one of my goals was to become a company director. Am I happy with where I am and what I have aimed to accomplish? No, but I am happy with the goals I have set and I am also happy I am following my own path, my own #barefootjourney ... It's been a long and hard journey but I would never have chosen any other way. Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of my idols, once said in his autobiography "Total Recall" : "the key to success is reps and sets ". Arnold's theory is that you can't get to where you want to go with just one go at it. But unless you live it breathe it, walk with them and talk with them, you'll not get there. The same reason why doing one set of sit ups won't give you a six pack. BUT, sit ups done every day, perfected for many many days and months, will give you a six pack. It means a lot to me that I continue my #blackbeltjourney I will continue to live my goals, and do my "reps and sets" to get to where I want to go. My goals are ambitious and audacious. And I am ambitious and audacious. And this is who I am. Ultimately, I have to do reps and sets to achieve the success I want. I'm taking lessons learnt from the dojang into the world, where it matters most. And I've only just started. As martial artists, we bow deeply at the end of class. Not because it is the end of the class, but to thank those whom have offered their bodies so that we may improve ourselves, and also celebrate the journey we shared on the mat. We also wear belts. Not because it signifies a level of achievement, but to represent the past and future journey we are on. In that same way, we can use the mat, the dojang, the dojo, the belt as a metaphor for life: Live your life authentically, compassionately and with purpose. And do whatever makes your spirit soar. Sing. Dance. Laugh. Love. And remember - it was never about the belt. Drsimonlew Photography

16.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Soon, very soon, probably even today, you’re going to want to quit. You’re going to want to just stop and just let go. It’s okay. It's a perfectly normal, human emotion to feel. But you have to be grateful for the things and events which challenge you. ... Be grateful that this will make you stronger and will separate you from the rest. It is life's lesson to you to ensure you have the strength of character to bear the heavy burden of your future successes, however small or great they are. Change is inevitable, but growth is not inevitable. Real growth comes when you get knocked down; When you fail. It takes courage to act, to look up, get up, and start over again. To change for the better. Choose not to be ordinary. Choose to be extraordinary. Do what few others would do. That is the key ingredient for success: having the courage to not give up. The courage to persist. The courage to endure. The courage to never ever give up. Because you're ready to be the best person you can be. Drsimonlew Photography

16.01.2022 This weekend I was honoured and grateful to be able to be part of the Spirit Taekwondo family and Kwang Jang Nims Masters Jason Smith and Anne Marie Smith as they competed at the 2018 Gold Coast Open. Win, lose or draw, the team fought on regardless, and all did a with a smile. I think sparring makes for a great metaphor for life. I think we can all be inspired in even a small way to fight on in life regardless.... To do the hard things. To fight the bigger person. To overcome challenges. To break through fear. To fight for something you believe in. To almost wanting to give up. To have a million reasons why not. And then finding that one reason why and to keep on fighting. To find a way of stepping off the mat a better person than when you stepped onto the mat. A lot of the time we may not like the process. But this is the hero's journey. And these are our heroes. And this is why we do it. Drsimonlew Photography

16.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Today I was honoured to have been witness and to have assisted at the Spirit Poom Dan grading. Congratulations to Jordan M (full black belt) , Andre M, Ross, Jackson, and Alex on passing their junior black belt - Poom Dan - grading today. Today's result was the cumulation of years of dedication, focus, commitment, and conscious deliberate determined effort from all candidates. I was privileged enough to witness their physical and mental tra...ining and their growth and development through the art of growing whilst being in uncomfortable situations and environments. A kick to the temple or a punch to the solar plexus are both very uncomfortable situations. In the same way : A fit and strong body does not come from periodic application. You cannot buy it. You cannot be given it. You cannot inherit it. It takes time and a lot of commitment to keep it. Training is going to be uncomfortable. It reveals your work ethic and character. In the same way your morals or any other human virtue - courage, courtesy, integrity, compassion - does not come from periodic application. You also cannot buy, inherit or be given it. Excellence of character or any other virtue must come from praticing it day in day out. It shows wisdom, sincere effort, patience, discipline, high intention, and intelligent execution. I don't get let off the hook either. I'm working on this every single day. It's not easy, but it's simple. Do good every day. And that's where it starts. You decide where it ends. Drsimonlew Photography

15.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Be grateful for the fact that you are a human being - the greatest adaptation machine/animal on earth. We humans have spent the past 2 million years becoming the alpha-being on earth because we are the best animal which can adapt though pressure, pain, obstacles, difficulties, and failures. ... Be grateful for all this, because without any of this, we would have never grown, and never accomplished what we have done so far as a species. But we can also be paralysed into inaction by pressure, by pain, by obstacles, by difficulties, or by failures. And because of this, my greatest fear is that you will read this and then only be inspired for a few minutes and then go back to doing what you were doing - nothing I do hope that at least one of you will take that first step and realise that the only thing that matters is action, and you WILL take that action. And in that action you take is the potential greatness that is on the other side. You don't have to believe that you can already achieve what you want to accomplish. But you simply have to believe that by taking the first step, you will get closer to your goals and greatness than if you chose the path of inaction. Action will allow you to grow, and get better even if you fail. It's Monday. So take action and take that first step. Take that first step on faith. Not on faith that you are already great. But faith that you can be the greatest version of yourself that you can be. Drsimonlew Photography

15.01.2022 Last night I fought my dear friend and brother Chris Armenio at U4 Ultimatum. I didn't do as well as I wished, but Chris was sharp, clean, and both prepared and ready to fight. Clearly, I lost to a better fighter on the night. Thank you for pushing me and teaching me the gaps in my skills, practice, and knowledge. Through out the day I saw many fighters beat each other down, but also every time they also picked each other up again.... In the end that's what martial arts is about: To grow, to connect, and to learn. To build compassion. Through all the blood, sweat, tears, Despite all these differences, I saw one common thing: Courage. Courage to step on the mat to fight, or to perform Poomse by yourself on the mat. I am inspired by all the fighters on the weekend. And I hope you too are also inspired by them. All you need to do is: Simply do better every day. It's simple. Not easy; but simple. Do better in any of your endeavours or goals. That's where it starts. When good people do good, more good happens in the world. Drsimonlew Photography

15.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday For me there is a certain duality to life. In life there cannot be light without the dark. Everyone goes through some negativity at some stage in their lives. I too have been through some negativity, some hard times, some pain that I had to endure.... But. Because of the negativity I've been through, I want to be perpetually optimistic and leave everyone seeing the beauty in life. Because of the suffering, I now have the capacity to feel deeply and care greatly. Because of all the negativity, I want others to feel happiness and joy and laughter in their lives. Because of the suffering I wouldn't feel the need to love and to cherish life. Because I know what the opposite is. I am grateful for people's lack of encouragement and lack of support in my life which has made me own my own life. I'm especially grateful for everyone who has NOT believed in me and who has NOT pushed me. For me, I'm grateful for those people because if it wasn't for them I would not be the man I am proud to be today. I am especially grateful my mother reminds me of all my suffering I went through. Because she loves me. I am especially grateful that my mother taught me that life happens FOR me and not TO me. From her, I want you to know and to believe in at least two things: Choosing to believe that with each choice you make, you have an opportunity to change your life for the better, to be good and great and to do great things. And choosing never giving up. Not today. And definitely not tomorrow. Drsimonlew Photography

14.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Learn to be grateful for the hard times you've been through. Be grateful for the pain that you have had to endure. ... Be grateful for the patience, empathy and compassion you have had to develop. Be grateful for your work ethic which you have had to learn. Be grateful for the reality and perspective that you're not as good as you once thought you were, and that you need to get to work to continue to grow. Be grateful for the people's lack of encouragement and support in your life which has shown you responsibility and control you have over your own life. Be grateful for the fact that it's never too late. I'm especially grateful for everyone who has believed in me and pushed me. For me, I'm grateful for the people who have inspired me. But I'm grateful for people who hopefully I have inspired. To believe, to grow, to improve. I don't know where I'm going, but I hope to go there with a smile and having fun, whilst hopefully inspiring people along the way to believe in at least two things: Choosing to believe that with each choice you make, you have an opportunity to change your life for the better, to be good and great and to do great things. And choosing never giving up. Not today. And definitely not tomorrow. @drsimonlew

14.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday On the road to success in life you have to be bold and attempt to strive towards great things. Society and others cannot define who you are and what you can become.... Remember other's perceived limitations are their opinion only. They are not fact. They may not even be true. So you've got to go out there and not just "try". You've got to go out there and give it all you've got. And when you reach the point of giving up, when you say to yourself and others that "I've given everything". I call you out on that. Because if you have given everything, you would be fit. If you have given everything you would have a profitable business. No, you haven't given everything. So if you haven't gotten there yet, get back out there tomorrow and do it. Be bold, be brave. And just do it. Drsimonlew Photography

14.01.2022 Australia : ONE team since 1896. I think it is very appropriate that the national board of Australian Taekwondo is working on ONE Taekwondo in Australia under this auspicious banner. There are no accidents. We have not come here by chance.... This is providence. This is purpose. This is our purpose. Our past, present and future sporting hero's are looking at us to do what we do best. As a director of Australian Taekwondo I am always available to be contacted by any members and state boards of Australian Taekwondo, if you have any questions about where Australian Taekwondo is heading, and where your resources are going. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] I hope that our community can be brought together through the participation in sports taekwondo and with the spirit of friendship, collaboration, and of universal brotherhood that taekwondo represents. 14.01.2022 "The Need to Win When an archer is shooting for nothing He has all his skill. If he shoots for a brass buckle He is already nervous.... If he shoots for a prize of gold He goes blind Or sees two targets He is out of his mind. His skill has not changed, But the prize Divides him. He cares, He thinks more of winning Than of shooting And the need to win Drains him of power." - Chuang Zhu Not an easy lesson, but a simple lesson here for us all. Drsimonlew Photography

14.01.2022 I do quote great people every week to inspire you, but mostly to inspire me. But reading my quotes, and watching my journey does not make you achieve your dreams. You cave to go out there and plan your journey and take massive action. We all have our own journeys to go through. And as we go through it, we will grow through it.... If you are reading this, I want to inspire you to do one more rep, one more kick, stay up and study one more hour, spend one more hour developing yourself. Ask your boss for a pay rise or a promotion. Go for that challenge. Go to that business course. Try something new at the gym. Learn that musical instrument. Test yourself. And I want you to look at yourself in the mirror and forgive yourself. Others will treat you the way you treat yourself. So learn to love yourself first. I want you to look at yourself in the mirror and love yourself. I want you to love yourself more than anyone else in the world. And do whatever it takes to make you better. I want to inspire you to be a better man. I want to inspire you to be a better woman. It's Monday tomorrow morning. Make it the day you make whatever you believe in - happen, through massive action. Quotes won't work unless you do. So when you wake up in the morning, go and get to work. @drsimonlew

13.01.2022 Spirit: Black Belt's make sure you take this one in...

13.01.2022 The biggest threat we face day to day is not from any one person. The biggest threat we face day to day is indifference. You always have room to improve in what you do. Never get complacent with your achievements and successes. ... Believe in one thing and that is yourself. Be the person who stood up and left a lasting legacy of striving for excellence in yourself and in anything you do. Be the person who reminds us how precious our time on this earth is, and how powerful choice is when you fight for and push towards your goals whatever that may be. Because I believe in you. Don't just write your legacy. Change your legacy. Drsimonlew Photography

13.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday You are capable of doing great things. It is your job to find out what that thing is, what your purpose is - your life task. What gives you meaning.... And then act on it. When your self belief and self confidence and character coincides with opportunities to do a something of meaning to something greater than yourself - to do good work - you can be capable of achieving great things. And when you choose to keep a steady head when all around you do not - When you choose to keep a positive attitude - When you choose to believe that with each choice you make - You have an opportunity to change your life for the better; To be good and great and to do great things. Drsimonlew Photography #spiritdo

13.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday As a human being reading this, you are heir to a 2 million year old trait which has led to us becoming the alpha species on earth. This trait is persistence. ... It has given us the ability to outlast even such great catastrophic events such as the ice age. When you feel like you have nothing left and have been beat down by life, remember, that you may not have won the fight, but you will get up and you have the ability to and will outlast the battle. Accept that you may never feel ready, you may never feel motivated, you may never feel confident, you may never feel confident. But you can still push forwards. How you change your life for the better is one step at a time. So get up and take that first step again, and again, and again. And when you do this you will build the skills of confidence and courage. Drsimonlew Photography

12.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Every morning as soon as I wake up, I have a routine where I remember where I came from, and remind myself of my 5 Whys as to why I need to urgently get up and do what is necessary to chase my goals and my dreams. It's ok to feel uncertain, and anxious, and want to quit and crawl back under the covers where it's warm and safe. ... But if your Why is powerful, your how becomes easy. If you want to chase your goals and dreams, then you should do this routine too. And remind why you deserve to achieve you're dreams. And remind yourself why you won't give up. Ever. And remind yourself why you will be unstoppable every day. And remind yourself why you will be unreasonable each day. Because common sense and practical and reasonable people will tell you that it's impossible, that it's unreasonable, and no, not today. And to live in unreasonable life like the one you dreams of... If you want to achieve unreasonable results like achieving your goals and dreams... Then you have to be an unreasonable person. Drsimonlew Photography #spiritdo

12.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday In this day and age of social media flooding our lives with ideas of what we should be and what we should look like. When we're all being sold and told to be like someone else.... Don't be concerned with being the next "so and so" or "the next" anyone. Just do good to people, do the right thing, and stay disciplined. For me, it's daily simple things like looking someone in the eye, a firm hand shake, and keeping your word. Dare to be the best at simple things. Dare to be the best ever you. Dare to be the first ever you. Dare to be the greatest ever you. I dare you to dare. Drsimonlew Photography

12.01.2022 Spirit: Warriors Path training camp - HERE, NOW, ACTION.

12.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday It's Monday. But you should not rely on Monday or any other special day or other reason for you to have the determination to decide to take action. ... It is simply what you believe. It is simply a part of what you are. are. It is simply what you do every day. Not easy, but simple. So take action, and walk away from the past of yesterday. Drsimonlew Photography

11.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday I am grateful to have partaken in SBN Darran McNulty's third Dan black belt grading. . They say you never really know someone until you fight them in combat.... Combat strips away all the superfluous embellishments and acts as a lens to crystallise the unseen. Ergo a kick or punch to the face is quite clarifying. . What I found was.. A loving teacher, a family man, a good husband and a good father... Never letting anything stop him let alone even physical injuries. A man who stays kind, committed to love and his love for Taekwondo. I see that in his students: truly happy kids who simply love doing what their teacher loves teaching. . Winning or losing a fight doesn't make you a warrior. Fighting with all your passion and heart makes you a warrior. At the grading, I saw: A freely authentic man. A warrior. And also one of the toughest MFs I know. . Drsimonlew Photography

10.01.2022 One of the components for my upcoming Dan test is the physical element. Now, this may not seem like a such a tough thing to do, after all I think I'm in pretty good shape for an old bloke For me the issue is finding the time within my working day. I start work at 5.30am and finish between 5/6pm each day. Some days can be even later but who needs more than 5 hours of sleep anyway I have been doing extra classes at the Dojang to concentrate on my own fitness and also runn...ing most nights (thank goodness for Daylight Savings!) I have also been setting aside some time on the weekends for my fitness. On a personal level and In regards to my teaching at Terrey Hills and Belrose, my students are increasing and I'm still loving teaching 6 classes a week now. I have started a new and additional class on a Tuesday for sparring. After the successful Ultimatum night I really wanted to offer a class focusing predominately on sparring and it's great to see students in this class from both GISS and Belrose. I also needed to consider my students who have been with me for a long time (through primary school) as quite a few are heading off to High School next year and this additional Tues class allows them to come to this session as it's a later time slot. Having my own students has definitely seen me grow on my journey, hearing the parents (and the kids) say how much they love TKD makes me very happy and I couldn't ask for more. Daz

10.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday A lot of people think that it's what you do today and every day that determines your future destination. What you see is what you get.... But there's no glory is staying where you are. I firmly believe it is what you don't do that will decide what will happen to you. It's what you don't see in yourself that will determine how far you can go. It's what you're not willing to work on can undermine your talent and passion. It's what you don't see. A lot of the time it's what you don't want to see. Remember you're either building and growing. Or decaying and going backwards. So see what you can do, more than what you're doing already. Accept it. Work on building it every day. Prepare every day. Take action every day. And sharpen your blade. Manifest your dreams. And leave this place better than you when you came. Drsimonlew Photography

09.01.2022 This weekend I was honoured and grateful to be able to coordinate my St Vincent De Paul youth group as we cared for at risk and in-need children. This is part of Spirit Taekwondo Do journey black belt requirements #spirittkdaus . I believe that not everyone going to be a fighter. I also believe that not everyone HAS to be a fighter.... Physical skill is only part of the picture, not the be all and end all. A fighter and a warrior is built on what's in your heart, mind and spirit. The physical is just the tools you use. I see this in the eyes of the children under my care this weekend. My 83 year old dad probably couldn't fight his way out of anything right now, and neither can a lot of these at risk and in-need children. But, from what I've seen and heard these children have been through and live through every day : I can tell you they would all be willing to die trying. But then again, they don't have to. Because they have my number. And I'm only a phone call away. Drsimonlew Photography

09.01.2022 Today I was humbled to take my Vinnies Youth group out for the day again. I hope that by spending time with them, I can make the kids see that there is a world of hope and "normality" beyond their suffering and their present difficult circumstances. Even though some of the kids may have gone through more abuse or neglect than I could ever imagine, I want them to know that I too have been there and I also have felt what they feel.... Even just a little bit. Do I still feel scared, stressed, anxious, uncertain? Do I feel like giving up? I'm some way I do... Every day, every week, every year. I too was that bullied little kid who locked himself in a closet at school to hide from bullies chasing him. I too was that scared little kid who pee'd his pants because he was so scared he thought he would die. I too was that scared little kid who's mother had to come to school so that he would finally open up the closet he had locked himself in. That time I gave up. But I can say that that was the last time I ever gave up. I have never given up on anything since that day. Ever. My mother still reminds me of this story every time I see her, to remind myself how far I've come. She is truly a "Tiger Mother." I want to show these kids that even that scared little kid could grow up to be something more. And that scared little kid would want to try to make a difference to the world. I want the kids to see me and know that they matter. I want to kids to see what I have done and know that anything is possible. I want the kids to see what I have done and know that they too can change the world. If you don't give up. This is my #spiritdo #blackbeltjourney My #barefootjourney Drsimonlew Photography

09.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Taekwondo and martial arts has shown me a lot of similarities to life. There are going to be ups and downs, successes and defeats, trauma and growth. ... Martial arts has also shown me that you cannot allow hurt, anger, or loss to hold you back into your next fight on the mat. What happened happened, but it doesn't have to happen again. And it doesn't have to hold you down. It's about what you give. You must always try to become better, a better version of yourself. And if you're lucky, you'll always be a work in progress. It's Monday tomorrow. Don't hold back.. Go out there and create a world full of Soul, Spirit, Passion, Happiness, Joy, and Love! Drsimonlew Photography

08.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Sometimes we hide behind our own masks we create. Sometimes we hide behind the masks others put over our faces. ... Sometimes we care too much about what people think about us. Sometimes we let others define our parameters in which we live our lives. Sometimes we want other people to treat you better and like you more that you treat and like yourself. Don't be so unfair to yourself. Others will treat and love you you the way you treat and love yourself. Sometimes you have to be able to own both your greatness and your smallness. To own both your brilliance and your imperfections. And not to hide under either the praise from others, or criticism from others. Then you'll be connected. Then you'll be compassionate. Then you'll be courageous. And then you can be truly free. It's both easy and comfortable to live within other people's parameters and confines of limiting beliefs. It means you never have to try, care, or take action. But living that way - in ambiguity - is such a wasted life. Sometimes you just have to take action and if you're afraid, then ask for help. Help comes in many different ways. Be ok with not knowing where you're going, or how you're going to get there. Sometimes it is an organic pathway that only you can walk. But it takes action to start that journey. I'm not perfect, not even by any far stretch. But I manage my imperfections the best I can and continue to grow to be the best I can be, with our without you liking or not liking me, and with or without your support. I am not the person you knew yesterday. I am just an ordinary person who is waking up every day and making one more extraordinary choice, and taking one more extraordinary action. @drsimonlew courtesy of Angie McNulty

07.01.2022 Spirit: 2018 is set to be another big year for Spirit. For those seeking to wear a black belt and to those already wearing one. Start as you mean to go ( in all areas of your life). Lead by example, make NO excuses, and be all you can be. Jung Shin

07.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Stop asking permission to be great. Stop asking permission to be brilliant. Stop asking permission to be liked. ... Stop asking to be accepted. This is allowing other's beliefs to control your future. This is so unfair to yourself. Work on yourself instead of relying on others opinions and beliefs. Just be confident that you will be the best person to make your life great. Yes, you'll make plenty of mistakes along the way. But learn to love and forgive yourself. Own your mistakes, and also allow yourself to own your greatness. Own your imperfections, and also allow yourself to own your success. Don't let people define or determine your boundaries and your possibilities. Don't let past mistakes and poor judgement stop you from striving to be a better man, or a better woman. Your circumstances don't define you. Let your intentions define you. Strive to do good, And strive to be great. But most of all - strive to be great at doing good. Drsimonlew Photography

06.01.2022 Think about your heroes, your idols, the people you look up to.... We all think that they are almost super-human. Did you know that often times these people are just ordinary people just like you and me.... Do you know what the one thing that sets them apart? They decided to make their ordinary selves extraordinary - through sacrifice, hard work, hussle. So ask yourself the question: Are you willing to make yourself extraordinary? Drsimonlew Photography

06.01.2022 As director of Australian Taekwondo, I am proud to announce that we have secured a very generous $11,000 in sponsorship money from Mr Mahmoud Mearbany of Australex Group Pty Ltd. All of this money will be used to fund Australian Taekwondo's High Performance para events. The targeted events in the leadup to Tokyo 2020 are the World Para Championships (Feb 19); Pan American Games (Aug 19) and Tokyo 2020 Test Event (Sep 19).... The story of Steven Currie is nothing less than extraordinary : Steven's left arm was left paralysed after an accident but he has continued to fight in taekwondo korugi sparring in Australia. Steven has also fought overseas and has proudly represented Australia in many prestigious international sparring competitions including the World Para Championships. . Despite the limitations of his left arm, he eventually became multiple World Champion, and is currently ranked 7th in the world (75kg). All of this whilst studying at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. What makes this gentleman even more inspiring is that he not only has fought in para-sparring divisions but he has also fought able-bodied sparring divisions - and won Gold. Let this be a lesson to all of us: Doubting yourself is normal, it's human. Letting it stop you is a choice. Your choice. Fighting with all your passion and heart and believing in something greater than perceived limitations makes you a warrior. Today I met: A gentleman. A warrior. A hero. And also one of the toughest people I know. Drsimonlew Photography

05.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday This weekend, at the 2017 Australian Taekwondo National Championships in Bendigo, I witnessed a phenomenal amount of great athletes achieving great feats of endeavour. This was a culmination of hours and hours of training, dedication, commitment and conscious deliberate determined effort from all athletes and coaches and families to become the great fighters they are.... Win, or lose - all fighters represented themselves with the utmost professionalism and grace under the fire of competition. I watched sparring, Poomse (patterns), and board breaking. I watched both able bodied, and para athletes. I witnessed young and older athletes, and of all body sizes and types. From all backgrounds and beliefs. Through all the blood, sweat, tears, Despite all these differences, I saw one common thing: Courage. Courage to step on the mat to fight, to perform Poomse by yourself on the mat, or the break an inconceivable amount of wooden boards with your bare hands. They are all fighters. I am inspired by all the fighters on the weekend. And I hope you too are also inspired by them. Because of them, I want you all to lift your game and rise from any form of mediocrity. I want you to uncomfortable with mediocrity in any part of your goals and challenges in your life and relationships. No one knew they were going to win, or exactly how many boards they would break. They simply turned the unbelievable into reality. What they showed me is that if you do what you've never done, you will become greater than you were yesterday. It's simple. Not easy; but simple. All you need to do is: Simply do better every day. Do better in any of your endeavours or goals. That's where it starts. When good people do good, more good happens in the world. And no, I'm not extraordinary, and I'm no expert, and I'm no exception. I don't get let off the hook. I too need to lift my game. So let's all do good. Together, let's all do better. Together let's take extraordinary action. And let's all start Monday being extraordinary. Drsimonlew Photography

05.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Sometimes, there are moments in life which you experience or bear witness to, which at the time seem like nothing. But later, in coherent retrospective, they change your definition of every single moment which comes thereafter. ... I am grateful to have a mother who brought me up the way of a Chinese "Tiger Mother". And I was honoured to have been taught, trained with, (and graded for my 3rd Dan side by side with) some of the most amazing women in martial arts, taekwondo, Kumdo, BJJ, etc. I have witnessed incredible feats of female athleticism of the purest sense. Of enduring the harshest of combat environments, and of transcendent abilities. Of strength. Of fortitude. Of courage. Of unwavering spirit. It showed me that there are some women who are beyond excuses. Beyond expectations. Beyond demands. Sometimes, some women exist where they belong: beyond gender roles, beyond social norms, beyond labels. And beyond comparison. Drsimonlew Photography

05.01.2022 When the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés reached the New World, he burned his ships to inspire his soldiers to fight and defeat the great Aztec empire. We can all have a greater vision of what we can do and want to be in life. Whether it's going to the gym, studying at school, or working harder.... Sometimes you have to burn your ships to force yourself to move forwards as there is no way to go back. When you burn your ships you will develop your intent. What you want to do will become a must. What should happen will become a must happen. Drsimonlew Photography

04.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday The last 3 days from Friday night to Sunday afternoon I attended Warrior's Path Systema Camp 2017 by the legendary Kalvin Smith. It wasn't an easy camp. There were many times when thing became really uncomfortable for me, especially the knife work in complete darkness on day one: Friday night, as it brought back a lot of scary memories from previous experiences for me.... To understand what I wished to effect change on, I had to truly understand what I yearned to change - old habits and fears. Understanding through experience. Growth does not come from comfort zones. Growth comes from challenging your current thinking and discovering ways to adapt to new challenges. It's easy to live inside the parameters of what others say about you, of what you believe in - which is your past. It's NOT so easy to live by your own parameters, by what you tell yourself. Your challenge is to ignore those negative comments, silence your inner critic and aim to grow regardless of whether you have sun or rain on your skin. I'm not going to stop learning. I'm willing to go out there and put myself under pressure of the unknown in order to grow. However, I do not ever want to think that I've finished growing. What I've achieved so far is the past. I'm only interested in my future, the man I want to be in 2020, 2050 and beyond. I am always willing to learn. I am always willing to be the student first. And you should too. This weekend I met and trained with some extraordinary people who live extraordinary whom also happened to share my 2 loves: martial arts and growth. I actively seek out people who make me reach for my own higher goals. And then I actively seek out others to help them to reach for their higher goals. When this happens, the circle of life keeps going and going.. Good people doing well, and helping others do well, means that more good is done in this world. In this way the circle of life perpetuates, and when more good is done, more good happens in this world. Tomorrow is a new week, so go out there and inspire others to grow. Drsimonlew Photography

04.01.2022 Size and ability are both nothing. Size and ability are both personal perceptions which are not necessarily real. Sometimes you just have to think bigger than you actually are. ... Choose to believe that with each choice you make, you have an opportunity to change your life for the better, to be good and great and to do great things. So today. This week. I want to dare you: To think big. To laugh big. To do big. And to live BIG. Drsimonlew Photography

03.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday I'm grateful for the many lessons learnt from the Yusool and Silat workshop this weekend, learning combative transitions from Master Nick Tsavalos from #Moosoolacademy UK and Semeru the Art of Movement Australia. Keep learning, and keep growing. ... Growth should be a goal within itself. Always be willing to go out there and put yourself under pressure of the unknown in order to grow. But don't ever think that you've arrived at the top or finished growing. This will inevitably disappoint others and especially disappoint yourself. Always be humble to know that there is always a lesson to be learnt. To be innovative, sometimes you have to be open to immersing yourself in the oldest traditions. One of the biggest lessons I've learnt in life is that you can always learn something from anyone. You don't just fall onto the top of the mountain, there's always a battle to fight and and to grow from, to get there. It's Monday. Here's to more learning. Here's to fighting. Here's to the fighters. And here's to never ever giving up. Drsimonlew Photography

03.01.2022 motivationmonday gratitudesunday Thank you all sincerely for your support and love for 2017. To you all I bow deeply, for everyone who has given me the opportunity to improve, learn, practice, and grow -... On the mat at Taekwondo, Kumdo, and BJJ, and on the "mat of life". This is my ultimate #spirittkdaus #blackbeltjourney And I am just a barefoot guy wearing simple white pyjamas. I'm am full of deep gratitude for all the lessons learnt in 2017. I had to learn to not take things personally. People like company and negative and miserable people like to make others negative and miserable too. But then again, I thank you all who were negative and miserable to me, because it made me learn to be understanding, to empathise, to be compassionate, and to move on. I learned to be realistic. Realistic doesn't mean pessimistic. Realistic means being honest. To be honest with yourself. Whatever the cost. You too can choose to be realistic, to forgive, to empathise, to learn, and to move on. But you have to choose to act on this. Don't hide behind your circumstances. Use your circumstances to fuel your desire to get to where you need to be. It is your ACTIONS that defines you. Don't ask to be great, don't ask to be brilliant. Don't ask if it's ok to be "ok". Just be great, just be brilliant and just be ok. Don't do it for your haters. Don't do it to prove them wrong, don't do it for any other reason. Don't do it to bring anyone else down. Do it for yourself. Just do it for you. It's #Monday . 03.01.2022 #gratitudesunday Today my heart is full of Gratitude to be able to help out for the day for my Vinnies Youth group. .. Big thanks to Event Cinemas and McDonalds for hosting today's events, again a day full of joy, laughs and fun.... .. Once upon a time I did this for the kids. .. These days, sometimes I do it for me. .. I find that when I do volunteer and serve people in need, I cannot think about anything else but the kids and their well-being and care for the day. .. You cannot bring your own problems to their world. You cannot think about your own problems for the day, and to be absolutely honest my problems are nowhere near what these kids a quarter of my age have gone through or are going through daily. .. Really bonding with them, asking them about their life and hopefully giving them a day to remember - not necessarily the content of the day, but hopefully leaving them feeling good and happy. .. When I talk to them I don't have to be perfect. They don't expect anything else other than me being me. .. It's an interesting circle of life... For the day when the kids are happy, I feel happy. Serving them, and little so they know they also serve me. .. For those 9 hours every month.. .. I'm free. .. .. This is my #spiritdo #blackbeltjourney My #barefootjourney Drsimonlew Photography

02.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday There will be many times in life when things may not work out for you. You can be like everyone else - and just give up, and be angry and that would have been OK.... Be grateful for these obstacles because they are often opportunities in disguise. But you have to decide to choose. You have to choose to be different. You have to choose to stare life in the face and get back up. Choose to live life to the fullest. Choose to be happy. And choose to achieve anything you put your mind to. Life may not go to plan every day and with everything. But you can choose to take the opportunity found in any obstacles you may face, and get back onto your feet. It's Monday. Here's to fighting past obstacles. Here's to the fighters. Here's to the warriors amongst us. And here's to never ever giving up. Drsimonlew Photography

02.01.2022 "Simon: why do you have so much energy?" "Simon: why are you so positive every day?" "Simon: why do you post positive ideas and thoughts every Monday?"... 'Simon: why do you always think the best of everything and everybody?" Because I choose to be positive. Because positivity breeds more positivity. Because I choose to not let negativity into my life. I choose to be positive. I choose to be different. Because it's a choice that I have. Because it's my superpower. Let me be an example of that. You too have that choice. The choice to be anything you choose to be: positive like me, or any other superpower you wish to have and to embody. Be you. Choose to be you. Choose to be different. Choose to be positive. Choose to be better. It's your life. It's your choice. Yes you. Choose. Drsimonlew Photography

02.01.2022 Choose to believe that with each choice you make, you have an opportunity to change your life for the better, to be good and great and to do great things. So choose to believe in yourself. And choose to never give up.... Drsimonlew Photography

01.01.2022 #motivationmonday #gratitudesunday Success is different to different people: For a student it can be getting good grades or a gold star in class. For a home-maker it could be a well organised home and a wonderful family.... For a professional it could be achieving a sales target to earn a promotion or bonus. Remember you don't "deserve" anything. Life doesn't "owe" you anything - least of all success. Your life is a result of all the action you take and the commitment to your decisions. And when things go wrong, as they most certainly can do, it's your resourcefulness which ultimately determines success. It's not that you don't have the time, or the money or the resources. So don't make excuses for being the best you can be. In your career. In your relationships. In your life. Everything is important. Every person is important. Every opportunity is important. Every detail is important. If you want a different life, you have to do what you haven't done before, and commit to positive action. Choose to believe in yourself. Choose to be the best you can be Choose to hold yourself to the highest standards. Choose to demand 100% effort from yourself at all times. Choose to take massive action. You have a choice. Are you going to do it? Drsimonlew Photography

01.01.2022 Yesterday marked the end of a marathon fight for a beacon of light and inspiration in our community. Those of us who had the pleasure of witnessing Hassia’s journey to green belt know the gusto with which she tackled her physical training. Yet the physical part is just the impetus; in every sense, she epitomised the Spirit black belt way. She lived her life with honesty, present in every moment, shedding tears when she hit rock bottom but always getting back up to keep on fi...ghting. She thought beyond herself; sharing her journey, lessons learned and joy to help and inspire others. She was one in a million; a brave, tenacious, hilarious warrior who loved deeply and found serenity in nature. I know you didn’t want any speeches but in my absence from the dojang and Sunday’s walk, I thank you and honour you. Your beautiful spirit and soul will live on in the hearts and minds of not only your boys but the entirety of our village, whose lives you’ve touched forever. Jung Shin.

01.01.2022 Every single decision you make will determine your future. Your decision to not study that extra hour. Your decision to not eat the right food. Your decision to not exercise. Your decision to not produce your best at work. ... Your decision to yell at your spouse. Your decision to not look get up when your alarm goes off. Every single decision matters. Because one apathetic decision can lead to another apathetic decision, which leads to another apathetic decision. Every single decision can either build you up or decay you down. Every single precious decision matters. It's your choice. So make every single decision count. Drsimonlew Photography
