25.01.2022 It's easy to get stuck in the trap of doing something just because you're good at it. Or just because you've spent a lot of time being good at it and are afraid of letting it go. The more capable you are of doing things, the harder it is to differentiate your natural gifts from the ones that you've learned or forced yourself to be good at - especially if your motivation is approval. What have you learned to be good at that you don't enjoy?... 23.01.2022 "Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will" - Suzy Kassem My self- doubt reflex is something I've been consciously working on improving lately. It's something I've always struggled with but I'm commited to changing as it can affect my mood, relationships, health, career and dreams. "The creeping sense of self-doubt triggered by anything novel and unfamiliar is, at once, one of the most natural and common - but also destructive - human tendencies.... It can send unsettling, disparaging voices through your mind, leading you to question the worthiness of your ideas, your abilities or even yourself. I suspect that this internal 'I'm not good enough' dialogue may sound very familiar to many of you. A feeble inner voice, no matter how negative or overwhelming, can rarely stand up to an outer expression of positivity and affirmation from those you love and admire. The flipside of this is that an unsure and doubtful voice will strengthen if it finds itself among a choir of other voices reinforcing it's negativity. Hence why the support around you is so important. Small things, like a trusted friends support at the right moment, can make all the difference. It is still important, however, to also develop your own internal strategies to lean on in those moment when big dreams and ideas hang in the balance. The self doubt dilemma; we are excellent at quelling everyone else's self-doubt but not our own. You already have every single tool you need to dispel your doubts; you probably exercise them regularly and with ease on behalf of those you love and care about yet forget them completely when it comes to yourself. As any self work does, these strategies may take years to curate and perfect but being aware that it is possible to overcome your internal imposter dialogue is a great first step." 17.01.2022 Remember, whenever you have two things, two alternatives, choose the new one, choose the harder, choose the one in which more awareness will be needed. Be less efcient but more creative. Let that be the motto. Don’t be bothered too much about utilitarian ends. Rather, constantly remember that you are not here in life to become a commodity. You are not here to become a utility that is below dignity. You are not here just to become more and more efcient. You are here to become more and more alive, you are here to become more and more intelligent, you are here to become more and more happy, ecstatically happy. But then that is totally different from the ways of the mind. - Osho
16.01.2022 "You made the best decision you could with the information you had at the time" This sentence was the best thing that anyone ever said to me when I was really struggling last year. So often we give ourselves such a hard time for thinking that we are not doing or being good enough. It's easy to make judgement on the past but forget that we didn't have access to or know the things that we know now. ... Rather, let's focus on our growth and the inner suffering that we once endured and realise that it gave us both perspective and strength. Just a reminder to be kind to your body, be gentle with your mind and be patient with your heart
14.01.2022 Did you know that it's women's health week?! This week has been dedicated to encouraging women to make their health a priority. To listen to their bodies. Respect their bodies. Advocate for better care for their bodies. A time to raise awareness of the health conditions that affect women. A lot of women, especially mothers say they feel guilty for taking time out to exercise or do something for themselves. It's not selfish to make time for YOUR health. Your mental and emot...ional health is just as important as your physical health. Women's health is a topic that I'm incredibly passionate about. I love to celebrate and support other women. I'm so grateful to my osteopathic practice for allowing me to achieve this. Treating and educating women of all ages is my WHY. It's what brings me the most fulfillment. I think my own struggles with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain initially led me to spend more time studying in this area.. But the more I researched, the more I kept discovering how things need to change in the way we care for women's health problems. So many complaints are dismissed or under investigated in women, often taking years to get answers, whereas the same complaints in men often instantly receive further imaging and testing. Things are improving but there is still such a gender gap in healthcare. This needs to change. I'm going to post about a different women's health condition each day this week to help raise awareness and start conversations. If there is something in particular you would like to know more about, please let me know! I want all women to feel valued, empowered and supported. Women's health matters. How are you going to take care of yourself this week? #womenshealthweek #advocateforhealth #endoavocate #selfcare #jeanhailes #womenshealthmatters #pelvichealth
13.01.2022 The thing I'm most grateful for in 2020 is the beautiful friendships that I've formed this year. Connection and communtiy really is everything.. I learnt this the hard way though. When I first moved to Sydney a few years ago I felt really isolated and lonely for quite a long time. I've always had a massive friendship group and a big family back home in Melbourne. Lacking this support system is something that caught me off guard and really affected my mental health for the fi...rst few years here. I didn't think it would be possible to form a new close knit friendship group at my age. I was at that awkward age in between partying like you do in your 20's and having kids.. which is where you often meet new friends I've heard.. at pubs or mothers groups I was also working huge hours during the week and every Saturday so getting involved in team sport also wasn't an option. Meeting like minded people seemed impossible and I never thought I'd meet friends up here that felt like we'd known each other since high school days.. But I did and I'm happier than I've been in a long time! Since moving close to Manly this year, I've also started to meet more people and local businesses within the community which I'm super thankful for! I think this crazy year has highlighted to so many people how important connection is and how much being unable to see our loved ones really takes a toll on people's overall health. It's been 18 months since I've been home to Melbourne to see any of my friends and family. Let's hope 2021 is filled with more communtiy and connection

13.01.2022 PUDENDAL NEURALGIA PART 2 Pudendal neuralgia is often chronic. Chronic pain is complex and there are often many contributing factors but manual therapy and education can be a very effective way to help ease pain and symptoms associated with Pudendal neuralgia. Management of pain usually includes adjustments to your lifestyle, work and exercise routines. Finding yourself a good osteo and/or physio who specialises in women's health is really important. Your doctor may also... recommend medical intervention if required. Treatment may include: Modifying aggravating activities like prolonged sitting, cycling, weight lifting, excessive core or pelvic floor exercises (avoiding Kegels!), jumping and horse-riding. A donut cushion to relieve pressure from the perineum when sitting Pelvic floor physio to assess/treat the pelvic floor, advise on good bladder and bowel habits, tips to avoid pain during sex, and prescribe home exercises for the pelvic floor Osteopathic treatment to calm the nervous system and decrease tension around the muscles/joints/ligaments of the pelvis & low back Breathing exercises to relax the pelvic floor Minimise constipation and straining by increasing foods containing high fibre, such as fresh fruit, vegetables & wholemeal breads, drink plenty of H20 and place your feet on a stool when sitting on the toilet. Meditation/mindfulness practices to help you cope with chronic pain Acupuncture for pain management and stress relief Medication may be indicated to desensitized your nervous system and give you some pain relief Get adequate sleep, typically the pain lessens during the night or when your lying down. With the right education and healtcare team, you can significantly reduce your pain and it's affect on your quality of life!! Ps. Pudendal neuralgia can also affect men, it's not just limited to women! 12.01.2022 Celebrating 13 years with this incredible human today @therunningroom I'm so lucky to have you in my life, your my best friend and biggest supporter. I'm so proud of you and everything you've created, especially over these last few years. Your the hardest working and most resilient person I know, I admire how driven and passionate you are about everything you do. The way you connect with people and have built a community is amazing. You always support my happiness, dreams and... healing. I'm so grateful for your constant support especially over these last 18 months when my health hasn't been that great. You always encourage and motivate me in a way that no one else can. We've been through so many amazing and challenging things together over the years but it's brought us closer together by constantly being forcing us to grow as individuals and adapt together. Society romanticizes the honeymoon stage but keeping the love can be some of the most beautiful work we ever get to do. We meet new parts of ourselves and our partners over and over again.

08.01.2022 'You can only lose what you cling to' - Buddha You’re being called to find the courage to loosen your grip and give up control. To release your coping mechanisms and leave space for grace to enter. To surrender all that feels dense to the divine. Your either in flow with the universe or you're not. If you’re clinging to anything, you’re resisting the natural flow of who you are. We are cyclic beings, and Mother Earth teaches us how to be human every day with the coming and go...ing of the tides and the seasons. The things we cling to are those we most need to let go of: the food, the substances, the relationship, the job, the people-pleasing whatever external thing you cling to, in an effort to feel whole or like you're enough. The things we cling to often cover up our most vulnerable space the part we’re most afraid to leave empty; the part we guard. But by keeping that space covered with something that doesn’t serve us, or clinging to it for fear of it not staying of its own accord, we prevent ourselves from receiving the things that will. And we cast a shadow on our light. But in loosening our grip, we open space for the light to come in, and heal the part of us that doesn't feel whole. ‘Whatever we leave empty, grace will fill.’ If you can find the courage to surrender, then that thing we once clung to will either stay on its own accord or be replaced by something that is beyond any of our wildest dreams. Loosen your grip. Grace is coming. It might be uncomfortable at first, but I promise it will be worth it in the end. What are you clinging to for fear of nothing coming to take its place? 08.01.2022 I’M TALKING TO THAT PART OF YOU Today, I’m talking to that part of you who yearns for more. The part of you who knows exactly what you want beyond all else. ... I’m talking to that part of you who longs to break right on through that self-imposed ceiling your mind has created out of fear, lack, should, and could. I’m talking to that part of you who longs, who dreams, who dances, who wishes. To the part of you that cheers, that laughs, that leaps, that bounds. I’m talking to that part of you who knows what you want and the exact next step to take to get it. To that part of you who knows you’re not broken and isn’t the slightest bit interested in perpetuating the story that says it’s so. Today, that’s the part of you I’m talking to. And I’m asking it to step forward and lead the way. Words from Light is the New Black by Rebecca Campbell This book always speaks to me like it was written specifically for me each time I open it. Words above were from today's page.. I had just journalled about feeling stuck, confused/fearful about what I want and being frustrated with my body for letting me down. I finished reading this page, closed the book and asked "what else do I need to hear today?" And I opened to this page... ASK THE PART OF YOU THAT KNOWS Right now, if you had to make five guesses as to what your highest calling is, what would you guess? Circle the one that excites you the most. If you had to describe this calling in three words, what would they be? If you had to describe it in one word, what would it be?
06.01.2022 It's taken 9 months for me to decide to share this post.. Not because of how I look but for fear of sounding like I was complaining or making my page sound negative I took these photos and wrote this post in Feb 2020 on a day I woke up feeling horrendous.. I took a photo as soon as I got out of bed because I could just feel my body was angry and was about to react and I felt like I needed proof to justify to myself how shit endo really is. "Both photos were taken on the ...same day. Left is in the morning when I woke up and right is about an later. On this day I hadn't eaten anything because I was so nauseous, so food had nothing to do with the "bloating". I was in extreme pain (I felt like my insides had been lit on fire and were melting), I was in too much pain to sit down so decided to go for a 10 minute walk and this was the result! Endo belly is extreme inflammation and swelling, it's absolutely nothing like bloating after eating something you shouldn't. For me swelling is often triggered by: Physical exercise (which is generally not not much at all) In response to a pain flare up If I'm on my feet for too long Direct pressure on my abdomen (ie car seat belt or tight pants) Triggering foods - a few days ago it was one single cherry tomato (histamine intolerance) but generally its dairy, sugar, gluten or alcohol. Swelling is one of the worst symptoms of my endo and it's not because of the fact that I look 5 months pregnant but because of how it makes my body feel - it is incredibly painful, my skin feels like it's stretching so hard it might rip, I feel so swollen and heavy that I need to lie down because standing can get unbearable, I go up 2 dress sizes within half hour so I pretty much live in yoga pants or baggy clothes now because my body can change so suddenly without warning. I've worked really hard to manage my symptoms this last year and it's really paid off - I know I am SO much better overall but sometimes it doesn't matter how disciplined I've been I still get flare ups.. I'm grateful that I generally know what I need to do to settle them and often symptoms will only last a day now instead of weeks on end." - Feb 2020
05.01.2022 PUDENDAL NEURALGIA Have you heard of this condition before? The main symptom of pudendal neuralgia is pain. Pudendal neuralgia occurs when the pudendal nerve becomes compressed or irritated as it runs it's course through the pelvis. ... The pudendal nerve travels from your low back, along your pelvic floor muscles and out to your perineum (the skin between your pubic bone and tailbone). This condition can be a result of an acute traumatic event or repetitive small traumas over time. Symptoms of Pudendal neuralgia can include: Pain with sitting UTI symptoms with negative test results Dyspareunia (pain during or after intercourse) Sharp pain, burning, itching, electric shock, aching, throbbing or a raw feeling into the perineum (between your "sit bones"), vagina, clitoris, labia, urethra, anus or rectum Deep pelvic pain A sensation of fullness or feeling like a foreign object is in the rectum or vagina Pain radiating into your legs, buttock and feet Inability to wear tampons or undergo pelvic medical exams due to pain Dysfunction in bowel and bladder habits (such as pain, stinging, hesitancy, increased frequency, urgency, incomplete evacuation) What causes pudendal neuralgia: Childbirth trauma (use of foreceps, long or difficult labour, tearing etc.) Falls onto a hard surface Surgery Cycling (nerve irritation from compression by bike seat) Past pelvic trauma Pelvic floor over-activity Chronic constipation/straining Stress Repetive/excessive physical exercise If your experiencing any of the above symptoms, please seek help from an expert as there is generally always something you can do to improve your symptoms!! More information about treatment and management of Pudendal neuralgia in my next post If your struggling with pain and don't know where to start, I'm always here to answer any questions or help point you in the right direction Emma x Artwork by @artbetweenthealps #pudendalneuralgia #pudendalnerve #womenshealthweek #womenshealthmatters #pelvicfloorhealth #pelvicpain #pelvichealthmatters #chronicpain

04.01.2022 There is nothing wrong with us. There is so much wrong with the belief that there is something wrong with us, the belief that we have to prove ourselves, the belief that we aren't good enough, the belief that we are supposed to be like everyone else, the belief that who we are doesn't belong, the belief that we should compare ourselves to other human beings, and the world that makes us feel like these beliefs are valid, true and accurate. - Words by @_lisaolivera
03.01.2022 I look at this photo and I'm really proud of myself.. This is on the morning of my surgery and I'm meditating right before I was taken to the operating room. For anyone who doesn't know me well.. I've had a huge needle & medical phobia for as long as I can remember so when I initially accepted my surgery date I was overwhelmingly anxious, I wasn't sleeping & I felt so sick for weeks. To give some context - 6 months ago Alex had to drive me to a blood test and speak to the nu...rse beforehand so she would be nice to me and would let me lie down 3 weeks before my op I decided to do my Vedic meditation course with the beautiful @rachaelsardelich It was the best thing I could have done for myself!! I meditated daily leading up to my surgery & I was unbelievably calm the whole time. I kept expecting to have a panic attack in the days prior to my surgery but it never came. A few weeks prior, I also journalled "the perfect surgery story" - a letter to myself detailing exactly how I hoped everything would play out on the day and for my recovery - I made sure I read it often leading up to my op. The morning of my surgery I woke up with some mild anxiety but I meditated on the car ride to the hospital and it disappeared. Once I got changed into my gown & was waiting to be admitted, I got a bit nervous so I meditated again and I'm still blown away by how calm I was the whole time at the hosptial. I lathered myself in a calming blend of essential oils, read my journal letter to myself & held my favourite crystal tightly the whole time. I cried for a few moments when I had to leave Alex at the doors to the theatre, but as soon as I lied down I just closed my eyes & started deep breathing whilst smelling the essential oil on my wrists.. I was able to calm myself while waiting for my anaesthetist. My anaesthetist was the calmest, most gentle man ever and made me feel so safe. Once I got into the operating room and climbed on the table I continued to breathe and repeated the mantra "this is going to help me, I'm safe & supported" until I went under. I'm so grateful to have had the most beautiful, compassionate team looking after me but I'm also just proud of myself
03.01.2022 "I want to live simply. I want to read books I'll never be tested on. I want to listen to my body. Fall asleep when the moon is high and wake up slowly with no place to rush off to. I want not to be governed by money or clocks or my artificial restraints that humanity imposes on itself. I want to just be.. boundless and infinite." I found this quote on an old vision board from 2014 yesterday. I didn't write these words but I remember reading them and really resonat...ing with them. 2014 is the year that everything changed for me, it was the worst year of my life filled with so much pain and grief but it also became one of the best year of my life.. I started questioning what I valued and how I lived my life. I slowly began the long journey of self acceptance and letting go of old unhealthy beliefs and habits. I learnt to lean into the pain, to use it as strength, use it for connection, use it to heal and to grow. Grief highlighted to me what I truley valued and what needed to change in my life. There is so much growth that can come out of pain and suffering, if you surrender to it. by @classic.katsara . . . #selfhealingjourney #growthroughwhatyougothrough #selfcompassion #valueyourself
