15.01.2022 I caught up with Eddie the other day: Hey Eds how ya goin Ohhhh, not too bad They talkin bout liften these restrictions I saw on the news the other day. Bit of luck, we might be able to get something done ... The boys are bored shitless - They stuck out here in the suburb. They wanna get up and get goinmind you, they cant go far, only one got a license and only one got a car A couple of days ago, they thought they might get up head into the bush get some branches to make some extra spears. They got just up the road and all these coppers were all over the place checkin everybodys. ID and reason for travel. Haahaha, imagine a car full of Aboriginal telling the coppers we just goin up the bush to make some spearslol. No, quick turn right, straight back home. This virus thing is a mongrel of a thing aye but what do you do? Im out of my suburb at the moment got to go to the doctor. Couple of weeks ago, I spent the night in hospital they werent gonna let me go home told them I dont want to stick around in here with all that corona stuff floatin round. So I went home the next day. Got a few of the kids stain round home herenothing unusual anyway. Got the boys makin some spears and boomerangs round here - gotta keep them busy you know, they bored shitless. Got them goin out delivering food to the oldies two days a weekjust cook it here and take out to thembout 75 of themby geez they getting it good these old fellas aye. Couple of rissoles mash potatoes some peas last week we had sausages. One of the elders rang me up yesterday and said he really love the feed we givin him. Really Missing Spirits of the Red sands though. Cant wait to get back started We cant go anywhere at the moment The boys cant wait to get out of house really. We are hosts at Spirits of the Red Sand, and we have the exciting task of announcing we are officially re-opening our doors from 12 June for up to 20 guests and from 10 July for up to 100 guests, per the Queensland Government three step plan to ease restrictions. We have plenty of space and open-air theatre sets at Spirits, but we've still made necessary changes to ensure our guests and team are safe and we are followin...g the rules of the health authorities, including social distancing, hand santizing and disinfecting - but more on this later. 03.01.2022 In our culture weve all got a special knowledge passed down to us - It might be art or foods or didgeridoo but this last week has been a massive working bee where we all got to add our ideas to the Aboriginal village. Were creating a cave entrance with totems, adding more trees for privacy, tiered seating for a better guest experience and planted a bushtucker trail including native and introduced plants. So much more to be done to get ready for our re-opening on 12 June. 17 sleeps to go watch this space for more updates.
