21.01.2022 Late last year I had the chance to build a garden bridge. I had never done one before but most principles in the job I had applied elsewhere - therefore the job was a walk in the PARK (pun intended).

16.01.2022 JUST as businesses are trying to cope through the current health-crisis - the economy can't NOT be affected. The take-home message is the same across the board - albeit private people or businesses trying to survive: We still have to practice safe social distances and strict hygiene. And if you can work from home do so.... Although, technically, I am still available to do certain work for clients (with the relevant hygiene practices in place), I am currently looking at some work-from-home options myself. It is on that note, based on previous extensive experience, that SpitnChips Construction & Maintenance is branching out back in to building design. I am currently focussing on jobs under $10,000 at this stage. This means that I can provide plans for decks and small sheds - some of those at the larger end will still need council approval thus the drawings. These jobs can obviously be done from my home office, and, if absolutely necessary, have the final plans PDF'd and emailed to you. However the $10,000 rule does not apply in NSW - I can take on bigger jobs in that state. So if you are needing plans - give us a call! Stay healthy, stay safe and take care. Neil.

07.01.2022 Also in my job description is plastering ... Recently I was asked to get rid of a pantry cupboard and leave in a plain wall. The client did the painting. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the final product. As you can see - the cornice used was a special order. It was a design from the '60s. Fortunately there was a cornice shop in Morwell that had the EXACT profile code in stock! So there was no delay in fitting it in.

05.01.2022 One of my latest jobs was to pull apart an old sash window for a lady in Paynesville. The timber frame was rotting away so I had to remove the entire sash, take away most of the framework (top edge was fine) and replace with new timber. I had to fashion the timber myself - it would have been a delay in getting a window company to source the right timber and produce a new sash. Alternatively, I did the work myself, which saved my client time AND money. It was quite unnerving as I had to constantly watch that I did NOT smash the old glass (3-4mm thick). Below you can see the work-in-progress (above) and the window back in place (below) with new framing (it was hard to photgraph it with the tree right in front). It was a nightmare removing the old sash and re-installing later (because of the tree). It was still to be painted also. PHEW!
02.01.2022 The floor came up nice in the end.
