25.01.2022 I did this tattoo four years ago today on my fellow Sea Shepherd crew member Haans (Sea pig) Siver, Haans is in the process of creating a whole sleeve of animals that she loves. Animal portraiture is something I love to tattoo, from a portrait of a much loved pet to a roaring lion, the challenge I enjoy very much is getting it right. The love we have for our animals can be quite profound and when we lose them it breaks our heart, tattooed portraits of much loved pets that ar...e no longer with us is a beautiful sentiment, they become part of you forever, paw prints are also something that many people get when their fur baby passes, if this is something youd consider simply use an ink pad and make an impression on paper. Warning, I had a customer do this with his much loved poodle who ran off with an ink soaked paw and jumped on to their white leather couch lol :-) See more

24.01.2022 Congratulations Kelsey on getting your first tattoo, not a bad 21st Birthday present to yourself the noses you see in the paw prints are actually her much lov...ed dogs noses and the paw prints were traced from her dogs paw print, how cool is that. See more

24.01.2022 I did this cool Taz tat on Sam yesterday for his two kids, its been years since Ive tattooed a Taz cartoon, it was fun to do, thanks for the skin Sam, see you soon for your next one

23.01.2022 I just finished this lovely wolf tattoo on Ieshiea, it was her very first tattoo and she sat like a rock and didnt whinge once, shes tougher than her Dad well done Ieshiea and welcome to the club, your one of us now and 10% tougher.

23.01.2022 Just finished this lovely tattoo on Chrissy and she loves it, one of the best compliments I can get for my art is, Oh thats so much better than I thought it would be. Thanks for the skin Chrissy I couldnt have done it without you

23.01.2022 Hello East Gippy tattoo fans, my Wednesday appointment had to cancel due to work commitments so the full day has just been freed up, would you like to grab the appointment? If the answer is yes be the first to leave a message below and it’s all yours

23.01.2022 Hello tattoo fans, Sadly after yesterdays announcement Im still not wise as to when I can open the studio which is incredibly frustrating to say the least. The regions need to be treated as seperate entities as what happens in Colac and Ballarat couldnt be further removed from us here in East Gippsland and to treat all of regional Victoria with the same restrictions when an area 450kms from us has a covid outbreak is simply ridiculous. I have contacted both Tim Bull MP an...d Darren Chester MP to express my frustration at the closure of my and many other businesses in the region as I deem it to be an unnecessary knee jerk reaction to an issue predominantly situated in the Melbourne metropolitan area and areas of western Victoria. I suppose its easier in a political and policing sense to put a big blanket over us all and treat us all the same but our region is still reeling from the drought, bushfires and the downturn of the timber industry, we need to open back up asap as to try and survive in what is now a severe recession. The closures of businesses that are already finding it difficult to survive in what is a very challenging environment will cause untold trauma to families, divorce, suicide and mental illness is a huge threat to many families. The unseen aspect of these business closures will cost many lives and cause untold issues to so many people and I find this extremely disturbing, in fact the closures of businesses within our small struggling communities due to the risks of covid in fact will be far more dangerous than covid in terms of lives destroyed and lost, the collateral damage is potentially phenomenal and ever so tragic. Please express your gratitude to Tim Bull MP and Darren Chester MP, theyre both doing a brilliant job at trying to get our region opened up and deserve all the support we can give them to get through this very challenging time, after all they are our voice in parliament wether you voted for them or not and together we can make a lot of noise and make sure the State and Federal government is listening to us and not ignoring us which happens all to often. Hopefully Ill be open soon, Kind regards, James :-)

22.01.2022 Splash of Color Tattoo was first set up by James Brown and Neil (Animal) Davies in 1989 in Union Road Ascot Vale, in our 30th year of business we decided to set up a studio in the great little town of Orbost right across the road from the world famous Snowy River. Splash of Color has been renowned world wide for creating some incredible tattoo artists and pumping out some amazing tattoo art over the three decades in the tattoo industry. Travelling and working all over the pl...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Just finished this lovely tattoo on Jordyn, it was her first tattoo, Jordyn is an animal carer who has spent the majority of this year juggling her year 12 stud...ies with rehabilitating her two orphaned Joeys, they're becoming a handful to care for now due to getting bigger and stronger every day thanks to Jordyn. River and Dexter are soon to be released back into the wild and thanks to the dedication and hard work of these beautiful people our precious wildlife will bounce back after the horrendous summer fires. A huge thank you goes out to all who care for and rehabilitate these gorgeous animals, you’re all awesome See more

22.01.2022 I had the absolute pleasure of designing and tattooing this lovely tree of life infinity design to mark an enduring friendship that has seen Pam and Rhonda close and dear friends for 45 years, how blessed they are, thanks for the skin ladies and for trusting in my art

22.01.2022 Sadly today I lost a friend and a fellow old school tattooer. Chris Reid passed this morning peacefully at 5am after a long battle against that bastard Jack th...e dancer. Chris was a brilliant tattoo artist who for 36 years plied his trade predominantly in the Geelong area, his art will live on for many years to come and his character will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. This tattoo machine tattoo that I wear proudly was done freehand by Chris whilst we were in Queensland at a Gold Coast tattoo convention way back in the early 90s, the tattoo still looks great today which is testament to the mans talent. My sincere condolences goes out to Chris’s family and friends at this very sad time. May God rest his soul See more

21.01.2022 Its great to be back at work and the first tattoo done today on Tiffany says it all, I hope we all remain safe well and happy. At the end of the word youll... notice there is a small semicolon, its a tattoo that I have done on hundreds of people, it represents quite a few things but mainly suicide awareness. People will also get the tattoo as a mark of survival from self harm, addiction, depression, anxiety or the trauma associated with the loss of a loved one. A tattoo can tell a story of a persons life, their struggles, achievements, passion, loves and likes, theyre an individual mark in time that are as varied as the people who wear them, whats your next tattoo going to be? 19.01.2022 Another addition to Jake’s tattoo collection, a hairy cow I’ve never tattooed a Scottish Highland Cow before, there’s a first time for everything.

19.01.2022 Shannon today had a lovely surprise when her $50 deposit for her tattoo appointment to rework a fifteen year old tattoo was generously paid forward last week by... another customer, thanks Darren Shannon was wrapped and is looking forward to paying forward the $50 to some other lucky person. This is the first time someone has done this in my business and it’s a lovely gesture, I have just put the $50 back out there in the community so someone tonight will benefit from the surprise of having their dinner paid for. Spread the love, pay it forward.

19.01.2022 Due to the recent exposure of our community here in Orbost to a person with Corona virus Splash of Color tattoo will be closed to walk ins for the foreseeable future. Consult appointments must be made as the studio will now be strictly operating on a one on one basis and all people who enter the studio will be required to wear a mask and sanitise their hands. All current appointments will be attended to but if you have so much as a sniffle or if you think you may have been ex...posed to Covid please DO NOT attend and rebook your appointment time to a day when you know youre 100% safe to do so. I have my darling 84 year old mother in-law whom I love dearly living with us and I couldnt begin to imagine how I would feel if I exposed her to the virus. Please be mindful and take care of all who surround you, their life may depend on it. Wishing everyone a safe and happily covid free day :-)

17.01.2022 Splash of Color Tattoo Orbost will be re-open for business Thursday 17th September 10am. All cancelled appointments will get first preference to available booking times and I will contact you Wednesday Have a great covid free day and enjoy the sunshine my fellow East Gippslanders and Orbostians or is it Orbostites? Someone will tell me

12.01.2022 Being a tattoo artist Im so blessed to have a job where I can help people heal from the tragic loss of a much loved family member, memorial tattoos are sadly a... part of what I do on a regular basis as much loved family members are remembered with a beautiful tattoo that you can carry for life, its like a part of them is with you forever constantly reminding you of the incredible bond we have with those we love. I have done memorial tattoos for so many reasons, from a loved pet rat, snake, dog, cat, horse and even a bird eating spider. The most profound of all the memorial tattoos I can do is the footprints of a stillborn child, this is by far the most tragic of circumstances to have to interact with a client and it always breaks my heart to see someone so distressed and grieving the loss of a child. In doing these tattoos it affords me the absolute privilege of interacting and helping a person through the grieving process, carefully chosen words and the best of my ability as an artist is imparted with to help bring on a smile at a time when a heart is shattered, I thank God for giving me the words and talent required to help cheer someone up at what is the worst time of life. The tattoo below was put on a lady who sadly also lost her much loved Staffy, Missy was the head model and Alroy was the paw model as Missy refused to give Sally a high five. The combination gave me the basis of what is a beautiful tattoo, a tattoo that definitely brought on a big smile. Today is going to be a bugger of a day, many tears will be shed and in fact theyre rolling down my face as I type this post, Missy is so incredibly special, she was gifted to us by Lucky Diamond Rich the worlds most tattooed man when she was a puppy, Missy was undoubtably one of the best gifts we have ever received as the love and companionship Missy has given us over 14 years will always be fondly remembered, how blessed we are to be her humans. Her final hours will be spent down the beach, her favourite place to be, the sand under her feet and the smell of the ocean always made her happy as it does Sally and I, well miss our little girl See more

12.01.2022 The finishing touches on Josh’s arm and chest piece, it’s been a couple of years in the making and I’d like to thank Josh for sitting like a trooper, he never bitched or whinged once even when working around his nipple, well done mate, see you in 2021

12.01.2022 Ill be in the Orbost studio for an hour this Saturday 5th September 12-1pm for anyone wanting a personalised tattoo gift voucher for Fathers Day, its a Fathe...rs Day gift hell never forget and it sure beats a coffee mug or socks Below is my dear old Dad and I back in 1990 out the front of the original Splash of Color, I wish he was still here so I could spoil him rotten.

11.01.2022 To think that someone could be so stupidly selfish as to put our town and district in harms way, shame on you.

11.01.2022 Another edition to Josh’s arm, only a couple of gaps to fill and the arms finished

11.01.2022 Just finished this lovely floral piece on Jasmine it was a fun day tattooing whilst listening to Led Zeppelin cranking on the stereo and an absolute pleasure ...to introduce Jasmine to the drumming mastery of John Bonham the original drummer of Led Zeppelin who I think was the best drummer of all time, sorry Phil Rudd but I think you’d have to agree. 10.01.2022 Due to this evil bastard of a virus Splash of Color tattoo will be closed for the next six weeks. The government shutdown of all retail and non essential services sadly has me closing my door after six weeks of trade, to say Im pissed off would be an understatement of biblical proportions. Oh well such is life amongst a pandemic and having a totally incompetent state government doesnt help much. All appointment deposits will be carried over and appointments will start agai...n from the day we are allowed to continue work. If at anytime you wish to cancel your appointment due to needing your $50 deposit please dont hesitate to ask and it will be placed into your account or you can come in tomorrow being Wednesday 5th August and pick it up. See you all on the other side of this insanity, please stay safe and well and dont forget to wear a face covering, I think this bunny head works a treat :-) Cheers, James.

10.01.2022 Harley was my first customer and he was very brave

09.01.2022 I just finished this wise old book owl on Bev who has been a teacher, mentor and tutor in Orbost for more years than she cares to remember, it was her first tat...too and goes to prove youre never too old for a tattoo nor should you ever let age stop you from doing what you want to do, good on you Bev I very much look forward to adding to your collection, one tattoo is never enough. See more

09.01.2022 Do you know who this man is, he dropped a $50 note out the front of my studio and I'd love to track him down, cheers, James :-)

08.01.2022 Just finished this cool Griffin tattoo, thanks for the skin Jake

08.01.2022 I havent done a grim reaper in years and this ones a ripper. Grim reaper tattoos used to be very popular but the Australian governments TV and press advertisin...g campaign warning people about the AIDS epidemic in the 90s turned people off them as the grim reaper was the main character in the advertising. I hope they become popular again, I love tattooing them. Thanks for the skin Thomas See more

06.01.2022 Just finished this lovely portrait of Sues much loved fur baby Nicky who she sadly lost a while back. The connection we have with our animals can be quite prof...ound and we all know what its like to lose a much loved cat or dog, it breaks our heart to have to say goodbye. Animal portraiture is a very popular tribute tattoo, you get to carry them with you forever which is a beautiful sentiment See more

05.01.2022 Some people are AC/DC fans and some are Harry Potter fans just like Victoria, your magic wand sure brought some magic into the studio today, thanks for trusting in my art Victoria, wear it proudly

04.01.2022 Splash of Color Tattoo Orbost would like to welcome Sinead into the world of tattoo, she’ll be starting her tattooing apprenticeship next Thursday and she’s und...erstandably very excited. Sinead is an incredible artist that I’m proud to introduce into the tattoo industry, her artistic ability at both drawing and painting will transfer over to tattooing beautifully and I very much look forward to seeing Sinead progress over the coming years. If you’d like a custom tattoo drawn up by Sinead pop in and have a chat to her, she’ll be more than happy to help you create your special tattoo from this coming Thursday. 02.01.2022 My darling wife Sally was the first to be tattooed in the new Splash of Color Tattoo Orbost, Sally has been first tattoo done in every studio weve established over the 30 years that weve been in the tattoo industry. The studio is already very busy and the first week was booked out within hours of opening which is brilliant. When we opened the first Splash of Color in Ascot Vale we opened at the height of the AIDS epidemic and then the recession we had to have hit in our fir...st year in business, well 30 years later we opened Splash of Color Orbost during the Covid 19 pandemic and another recession, we survived the first one and well survive this one. Thanks to everyone who have called into the studio for a look and wished us good luck, its very much appreciated, even a lovely old lady popped in to tell me she hated tattoos lol :-) but wished us good luck in business and said its better than an empty shop. If youre curious about the studio please pop in and say hello, even if you hate tattoos, everybody is welcome, unless you have Covid 19 :-) See more
