A pool should have crystal-clear and inviting waters, not murky. The goal of shocking your pool is to raise the free chlorine level to a point where contaminates such as algae, bacteria and other nasty's are destroyed.... How to shock your pool #1 Clean and sanitise your pool with a heavy dose of chlorine, following the measurements closely on the packaging. #2 Lower your pH with hydrochloric acid, the chlorine will be more effective. #3 Run your system for a 24 hour period to disperse the shock treatment and clean the filter of debris. #4 Test and 2 to 3 days later and make any additional adjustments. #5 Give us a call or send us a message, and our service team can come out and show you how.
