19.01.2022 : There is nothing left to burn. : Only 6.9% of NSW was impacted by bushfire in the 2019/20 fire season. ... : Grass fires are not as dangerous as bushfires. : Grassfires can travel three times faster then bushfires and are extremely dangerous. Grassfires tend to be less intense and produce fewer embers than bushfires, but still generate enormous amounts of radiant heat that can result in serious injury or death. : There will always be a fire truck available to fight a bushfire threatening my home. : There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. : The emergency services will tell me when it's time to leave. : Some fires start and spread so quickly there may not be any time for a warning. If you get a Bush Fire Alert, you must take it seriously. Failure to take action can result in death or injury to you or your family members. : The best plan in a bushfire is to stay and defend the house until it looks too bad, like when the flames are at the house. You should then go somewhere else to shelter. : Tragically, many of those who have lost their lives in past fires left the decision to evacuate far too late, sometimes abandoning a home which afforded significant protection from radiant heat to be caught in the open or in a car as the fire front passed. It only takes 5 minutes to improve or make a plan that will give your property, your family and yourself the best chance of survival. #BushFireSurvivalPlan #GetReadyWeekend #FiresNearMe #RFS

14.01.2022 Fact: Your safest option is to leave early. A bush fire can be a terrifying situation, intense heat and flames will make you tire quickly, it will be difficult to see and breathe. You may become confused or disorientated. Powerlines and fallen trees can block roads and make driving dangerous. It’s always better to leave early, before the fire arrives. Visit myfireplan.com.au and make a bush fire survival plan, it will help you make important decisions like when to leave or what you need to be prepared to stay.

14.01.2022 Get Ready Tip: Burning embers can travel kilometres ahead of a bush fire. An ‘ember attack’ is the main cause of house loss in bush fires as they can occur before, during and after the fire front passes. Cleaning gutters and patching holes or gaps in your roof is an effective way to protect your home from ember attack. 07.01.2022 The devastation of last year’s fires has seen an increased interest in new members joining brigades across our region which has been great, but it also takes a lot of work by our volunteers to train our new members. This year our dedicated trainers have helped 6 new members at Splitters Creek pass their BF training, this couldn’t have been done without the help of other brigades too, especially Kathy Barnes at Lavington Rural Fire Brigade and our own Darryl Ward who have put in a lot of hours for our new members, with another group passing their qualifications on Sunday just gone. Thank you to our new members who have committed themselves to their training and to joining the NSW Rural Fire Service, we look forward to working with you all.

06.01.2022 Get Ready Tip: Keep track of the alert level so you know what you should do. ADVICE level means a fire has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes. WATCH AND ACT means there is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action to protect you and your family. EMERGENCY WARNING is the highest level of Bush Fire Alert. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. Any delay now puts ...your life at risk. There are simple things you can do around your... home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home.
