25.01.2022 2020 marks 10 years of partnership between Our director Simonne and the Eastwood Rugby Family as Eastwoods grade physiotherapist. During that time shes Supported first grade to 3 premierships wins in 2011, 2014 and 2015. Being one of the most highly regarded specialist sports physios in Australia, she provides invaluable experience and expertise when it comes to diagnosing injuries and returning players to the football field. She is a pioneer for the importance of womens i...nvolvement in such a male dominated sport. Mon is Eastwood royalty as 2019 Eastwood captain Robert Lagudi once said, with her dad Jono, and both brothers all playing in grand final winning teams for Eastwood prior to Mons appointment. Mon and the rest of the girls at SSP bleed royal blue forever and always, and will do whatever it takes to get the boys back playing at their best ASAP. We hope this partnership continues for many more years, and through many more premierships

24.01.2022 This is 2!! Today marks 2 years since we moved to our current Gladesville location and rebranded to SSP. What a move it has proven to be, and what a family and community we have built. We are all looking forward to a wonderful 2021!!

24.01.2022 When you have mastered this exercise on flat feet then perform it on your toes. This adds extra weight and an extra challenge... but make sure to maintain your perfect form . Thank you to my assistant for her perfect form!

23.01.2022 What a spectacular day for the Virtual Mothers Day Classic! A massive thank you to everyone who donated. I am thrilled to have raised over $600 for such a worthy cause. And to my baby girl, the inspiration for it all. I love you my darling. Thank you for the honour of being your mummy

23.01.2022 Back at the field of dreams @eastwoodrugby

22.01.2022 You must walk 10,000 steps per day!! This seems to have become the magical number to walk before you can give yourself a well earned pat on the back and look smug like a Karen. But where did this number come from?? ... Lee et al in 2019 looked at the number of daily steps taken and the mortality rate in older women. They found that 4,400 steps a day reduces the mortality rate by 41% when compared to women walking 2,700 steps daily. 7,500 steps provides further decrease to mortality rates before the benefits level out. Ofcourse this fits with what we already know, that exercise and an active lifestyle is the answer to a longer and healthier life! As physios we are here to ensure you can be active and participating in whatever activity brings you joy whether that be walking or waterpolo-ing From niggles, to more serious injuries we are here to get you back to doing all the things you love! Give us a call on 98177100 so we can smash those step goals

22.01.2022 At SSP we are putting one foot forward to support mental health research One in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year ahd so this issue is v...ery close to all of us, having experienced or known someone who has suffered from mental illness in some fashion We’re fundraising to raise money for life changing research into treatment and prevention of mental illness, as well as provision of support services for those that need it most We each have our own individual exercise goals, but our aim is to raise $1000 collectively as a team We’d love is you could consider donating even the smallest of amounts, and if you could share this post we would be forever grateful Www.onefootforward.org.au/fundraisers/SSPsquad

22.01.2022 Shoulder pain is common and often peoples symptoms never fully resolve. Subacromial shoulder pain in particular is the pain that can be felt when elevating and externally rotating the shoulder (the movement of reaching above head) A 2020 systematic review update by Louise Pieters et al., concluded that: EXERCISE and manual therapy (physio specific skills) can improve pain and function ... And should be used as a priority OVER surgery and injections Contact us on 9817 7100 if this sounds like you

22.01.2022 For those of you now working from home Try as hard as you can to imitate the set up you have at your work desk. Looking down at your laptop or tablet can put your neck under increase strain, even when sitting at a desk or dining table.... We are still here to help you should your best plans go awry.

21.01.2022 From injury heartache to a Grand Final Berth It’s been a huge year for one of SSPs favourites, Matt Gonzalez, more affectionately known as Gonzo! Gonzo spent the last two seasons battling quad injuries, losing confidence and trust in his body and belief in his abilities.... At the end of last season, we started on the process of breaking down and identifying Gonzo’s weaknesses and dysfunctions, and then with nothing other than bloody hard work, and guidance along the way, Gonz has rebuilt his body and has had a stellar season. He regained his top speed and acceleration, trusted his body to snipe and run which is such a huge part of his game, and scored 11 tries, 2nd in the Shute Shield competition, and helped his team into the Grand Final vs Gordon this Saturday. As a former staff member of mine, he has always been very special to us, so being able to guide him back to his best has been one of the very best parts of a great season and we can’t wait to watch him on Saturday! Thanks to @sandmgonz for the great snaps

20.01.2022 Training load pre-season - the protective effect of preseason in team sport Windt at al., 2017 Proposed that An increase in the number of preseason sessions completed leads to reduced percentage of games missed due to injury. Similarly greater distance covered in a training week at a lower intensity leads to reduction in injury and time lost to injury during the season Alternatively increasing the percentage of distance covered at high speeds by 3.7% increases chances of injury by up to 34%. This is amplified when preseason participation is limited. As we get back into team sport, remember: pre-season intensity and volume is important in preventing injuries

18.01.2022 In a 2020 study by Maurer et al they demonstrated that a degree of physical inactivity as measured over 14 years showed a strong correlation with disc degeneration of the thoracic and lumbar spines. This is great news!! . Exercise will help keep your back strong and healthy, not damage it!

18.01.2022 With only work and exercise on our calendar, we are enjoying the beautiful outdoors and cherishing the slow days Back in the clinic tomorrow morning, ready to look after all our amazing clients

17.01.2022 Yesterday marked 6 months since our Director Simonne began her running journey after having Charlie in 2018 She increased her distance and volume carefully, included a lot of walking daily body weight exercises to increase her leg strength and endurance and rested when her body told her too. She did most of her kilometres with a great running pram to ensure she could find time for her exercise and take her little PT with her ... Simonne ran a 5km time trial last night without Charlie to see how far she had come. And the results speak for themselves. Over 2 mins per km faster, and the fastest 5km she has ever run, pre or post Charlie. If you are a new mum who is keen to begin or return to your running, Simonne has both the Specialist Physio skills and experience to assist you, as well as her own personal journey as a guide Call us today on 9817 7100 if youre ready to become your best self. @ Spooner Specialist Physiotherapy

14.01.2022 Have you been told to get a cortisone injection? A cortisone or CSI is a steroid injection used to reduce pain in musculoskeletal injuries or worn joints. Orchard in 2019 found that although it may alleviate your pain short term, patients can suffer a quicker path to joint replacement or further deteriorate soft tissue. ... CSI can be a really useful tool post-injury, but before you consider if it is necessary for you give us a ring to discuss the pros and cons for your unique situation! If you HAVE had a cortisone then we need to use this opportunity to strengthen and improve your function to get the best results long term! 9817 7100

13.01.2022 We are so excited to have kids sport back in just a couple of weeks! Growing pains in the form of Severs Disease or Osgood Schlatters Syndrome are very common in children, and combined with a long off season and then return to high load in sport can lead to significant pain and dysfunction. We want all our kids to love every minute of being back on the sporting field, but its important to monitor how much they do, how quickly. ... At SSP we are experienced in managing overload conditions and can help keep your kids playing the sport they love with minimal time off, whilst ensuring they heal well. 10.01.2022 This is a great exercise for anyone suffering long standing neck, upper back or shoulder pain and dysfunction. Over time, the brain sees all of these separate body parts as one whole, and we can find it hard to differentiate and move one joint separately from another. It is a skill acquisition exercise, so the more the better ... And doing exercise with a friend always helps with motivation
