24.01.2022 The Sporties Men's Bowling Club committee organised and conducted a beautiful mother's day luncheon on Sunday 14/5/2017. Unfortunately rain prevented any bowls ...being played but great fellowship interspersed with a great selection of raffle prizes and a couple of very popular 100 club draws plus a wonderful lunch was enjoyed by all. Congratulations gentlemen, a great job. See more

01.01.2022 SPORTIES GRADE 6 PENNANT TEAM: After defeating Gloucester at Blackhead Bowling Club Saturday 18th May, 2013, the Sporties Grade 6.1 pennants team took the title as District Pennant winners which enabled the team to travel to Scone this past weekend to represent the District in the Zone finals. It was a solemn occasion at the start of proceedings on Saturday morning, 1st June as the loss of our President, Allan Laird weighed heavily on the team. The team, all wearing black a...rmbands, formed a circle on the green, where we all agreed this win would honour Allan as nothing else could. We called for a minutes silence and slowly the rest of the players on the other rinks, the spectators and officials fell silent - and the resulting silence was a true and due mark of respect for the man who had fought so long and hard, both personally and professionally to get our Club to the position it now holds in our community. Fortified, the 12 players proceeded to give their all, with our opponents, the home team, Scone Bowling Club finally conceding to give Sporties a definitive win. Sunday, 2nd June, was another matter - our opponents, Maitland Ex-Services Bowling Club had a good win on Saturday, and the closure of their Bowling Club the week before gave their team an added incentive to gain their Club some last honours. The weather did not start out in our favour - heavy rain until we arrived at Scone - the Director of the event decreed play may be delayed until the afternoon, but at 9 am the rain abruptly stopped and did not start again until we left the green at 1 pm - it looks like Allan is Chairman of the Board up there already! Maitland Ex-Services reckoned without the fighting spirit of the Sporties, and their great team of vocal and enthusiastic supporters, who once again urged the team on with their cheering, chanting and singing. With Sporties 10 points behind and little time to go it was obvious that Maitland-Ex Services would contest every blade of grass - and with our backs to the wall, every single player in our team lifted their game to another level- the fanatical support from our supporters on the sideline once again the deciding factor - every shot by our team applauded and praised - until Sporties prevailed - taking the Zone Pennants for Grade 6 by 9 points. A worthy win by a worthy team. Now onto the State Titles in August ! Michael Sadler Player - Grade 6 Pennants Team - now referred to as ‘THE SUPER SIXES See more
