21.01.2022 Did you know that yesterday was International Volunteer Managers Day? Do you organise the umpires? Make sure someone is manning the scoreboard? Work out who is rostered for afternoon tea? They are all things that a volunteer manager might do! So we might not always use the same language or titles, but we know you all do an amazing incredible and amazing work, and you deserve that recognition!... Thank you for all that you do Tag your club's volunteer managers/leaders and let them know you appreciate them! Check out this video from Volunteering Victoria who are asking 'What's Next?' and what do you think is next for your club? https://youtu.be/Fe2QFFNE7-U
20.01.2022 #Didyouknow... Nearly all job description's for roles within a sporting club do not specify the gender required for that role. The canteen manager does not have to female! And the groundskepper doesn't have to be male! ... Secretary? Could be anyone with the skills. What about Fitness Coach? Or Skills Coach? What about your Senior Coach?! Does it have to be a gendered role? Take some time to reflect on all the positions around your club and think on why we we put males or females in these roles - could it be done differently? What supports does the club have in place to allow for 'different' to become normal.
19.01.2022 A common saying is Not every act of disrespect leads to violence, but every act of violence starts with disrespect. You may get the sense that because it’s such a widespread issue that there isn’t much individuals can do in their own local area. However, here’s the good news: gender-based violence against women is preventable and promoting and normalising gender equality is at the heart of the solution. Sporting clubs and community groups can make some simple changes that can move towards getting gender equality the norm. DM us and ask about the Gender Equity Checklist for your club.

13.01.2022 It's important to explore what respect means and more so how people can put it into practice. One of the ways to show respect is by supporting people who are on the receiving end of disrespectful behaviour. An OurWatch survey showed that 79% of respondents want practical tips about ways to safely intervene when witnessing disrespect toward women and girls. Bystander action is defined as: "Safe and appropriate actions taken to challenge the drivers of violence against women ... that is, to challenge: - Disrespect towards women that includes control of decision-making and limits to women’s independence in public and private life. - Stereotyped behaviours and ideas of masculinity and femininity, and the 'group thinking' towards women in general, - Male peer relationships that emphasise aggression. Violence and aggression can be directed at peers especially if you are challenging stereotyped behaviours. Bystander action includes speaking out about and responding to sexism, discrimination and inequality. Before intervening, it's important that the individual observes the situation and only act if safe to do so. To find out more about bystander action, contact Women's Health Goulburn North East on 03 5722 3009.

08.01.2022 The 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign launched in 1991 by the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership. It is a widely recognised global campaign with this year’s theme being, From Awareness to Accountability. Over the next 16 days we will be highlighting various aspects of the gender equity campaign including events happening right around our regio...n such as the Wangaratta Walk again Family Violence tomorrow. This can be a really tough topic for people to talk about and have safe respectful conversations around. It can be especially difficult for people that have experienced gender-based violence.
