25.01.2022 Great to see @steve_maruca complete his rehab from a grade II hamstring strain and get back onto the football field. Goal achieved.

25.01.2022 Recovery from an injury is not always smooth sailing. Sometimes there are setbacks. Stop, adjust and move forward again. #mindset #resilience #injuryrecovery #believeintheprocess #positivemindset #injuryrehab #physio #physiotherapy #sportsphysio #sportsphysiotherapy #brookvale #northernbeaches

24.01.2022 Proud to be associated with @pachecojiujitsu @gorillas_house great results over the last week. Competing in the International IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Las Vegas and the NSW winter cup. Champions on and off the mat.

24.01.2022 Always important to remind a client that once they have attained their goal(s) that the rehab programme doesnt stop. That it now can form there prehab programme, from which they can use it as a building block to improve and progress themselves whilst decreasing the risk of reinjury.

23.01.2022 On 26th July, Tim, came off his board whilst surfing at North Curl Curl, driving his head into a sandbank. The injuries sustained were serious: -fractured C2, C3 - a vertebral body shift resulting in central cord syndrome resulting in paralysis (temporary) - internal carotid arteries damaged, the left internal carotid artery complete resulting in a left sided stroke (right sided weakness/paralysis)... - associated soft tissue damage muscles, ligaments, neural. Tim was pulled from the surf by nearby board riders as was paralysed and drowning. Hospitalised for a month, including surgery to stabilise/fixate C2/C3, Tim was released in a wheel chair, with his aim to be able to surf again. 5 months on from the injury he is able to do that. He is now aiming to compete at the nationals in the masters division His progress and attitude to his rehab has been remarkable and inspirational.

21.01.2022 A clients weight can be an important factor when dealing with a degenerative knee condition such as osteoarthritis (OA). (Messier, 2013) found a 10% loss in weight can improve knee function and symptoms by up to 50% in those with OA. 12.01.2022 A headache can be debilitating at times and can range in severity from mild where one can still continue with everyday life to being unable to do anything but lie in a darkened room. There are numerous types of headaches and the causes are varied. A cervicogenic headache is a pain that develops from issues in the neck. They are more common in women than men. They are classified as a secondary headache. Secondary headaches are those caused by an underlying condition, such as ...neck injuries, sinus infection, or severe high blood pressure for example. This sets them apart from primary headaches, such as migraines. The pain caused by a cervicogenic headache begins in the neck and the back of the head and radiates towards the front of the head. People may confuse cervicogenic headaches with migraines and tension headaches. In a lot of cases, people who have cervicogenic headaches experience a headache accompanied by neck pain and stiffness. Certain neck movements can provoke cervicogenic headaches. However, there are some instances where clients report no pain or stiffness but the underlying cause is from There are some instances where people have no neck pain or stiffness but the headache is still originating from the neck. Tension in the upper trapezius, levator scapulae and the suboccipital muscles at the base of the head (sub occipital headaches), can trigger headaches. This can be a result of things like poor posture, stress an acute trauma eg heading a ball in soccer. Physiotherapy can provide relief with cervicogenic headaches with: Soft tissue massage Mobilisation Stretches Acupuncture And longer term solutions with: Postural correction Appropriate exercise programmes. 02.01.2022 Osgood-Schlatter disease Adolescent anterior knee pain can often be attributed to Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD). OSD typically causes pain and swelling below the kneecap. The pain usually gets worse with running and jumping activities.. OSD can happen in one or both knees.... OSD commonly happens during the growth spurt of puberty. During a childs growth spurt, the bones, muscles, and tendons grow at different rates. In OSD, the tendon that connects the shinbone to the kneecap pulls on the growth plate at the top of the shinbone. Activities and sports cause this to happen over and over, which causes injury to the growth plate. This injury leads to the pain of OSD. It is more prevalent in adolescents who have a high level of activity. OSD does not cause permanent damage; however, this condition sometimes leads to excess bone growth and produces a visible bump where the tendon attaches to the bone. It may be necessary to reduce the load on the knee during the week so they are ready to go for the weekend. This can be done by: -reducing the number of training sessions a week -decreasing the intensity of the training -shortening the length of the session Simple things can be done to alleviate the pain: -Ice -Massage -Strengthening exercises Changes to footwear may be necessary: -Properly fitted runners or boots -Orthotics OSD doesnt need an x-ray or a scan, or any injections or surgery. Its an easy clinical diagnosis and just requires simple conservative management. Ph: 0403946670 www.sportsandspinesphysio.com.au

02.01.2022 Great to catch up with former @manlyseaeagles and 2011 premiership winner @vvmauro03 who came in for left sided cervical radiculopathy. Was able to reduce his symptoms significantly and give him a self management programme. @ Brookvale, New South Wales, Australia
