23.01.2022 Ok yes this is a lot to read but I swear you will learn something if you keep reading right to the end. Youve heard the saying: its all in the hips, but for many of us, our hips or more precisely, our hip flexors are tight, stiff and inflexible. If youre an office worker you can probably thank sitting down at your desk 8 or more hours a day for your tight hip flexors. Habitual sitting (long car, bike rides) causes your hip flexors to tighten and shorten. So lets talk abou...t our "HIP FLEXORS" First off, just what do your hip flexors do? Luckily for us, it turns out these little muscles are pretty darn important! Specifically, your hip flexors are a group of skeletal muscles responsible for: - Flexing your hip joint. - Flexing your trunk forward. - Pulling your knees upward. - Moving your legs from side to side and front to back. - Helps stabilize your lower body. So why stretch our hip flexors? Tight hip flexors negatively affect the results you get from your workouts! Everybody loves to drop it like a squat, but to get a great squat you need to have great hip flexor mobility. Especially, if you want to hit those glutes for best results. In other words, flexible hip flexors are going to help you get a better booty! Not only that, having flexible, strong hip flexors will help you get better results from many abdominal exercises and on top of all that completely help improve your posture. Tightness in this area also often goes hand-in-hand with anterior pelvic tilt, i.e. where your butt sticks out (more than it should) and, if theres too much tilt it isnt great for your posture and as a result can contribute to BACK PAIN (mainly lower back pain), yes thats right problems in the anterior chain can affect your posterior chain!. Not to mention a negative effect on your athletic performance and just about EVERY activity you do. Getting flexible in this area can help to correct anterior pelvic tilt, especially when combined with glute and core work, giving you much better posture. Attached are a few of my favourite stretches for this area.

14.01.2022 This lovely patient has been suffering a bit of achilles tendon pain. As most netballers who suffer a lot with achilles, ankles and calf muscles we have found dry needling to be such an effective tool for treating these symptoms.

14.01.2022 We have been getting a great response with dry needling for this lovely patient. She suffers from that terrible pain a lot of us get between our shoulder blades and up into our neck. Along with regular treatment this patient is on a corrective exercise program to help strengthen her posterior chain and help with posture.

11.01.2022 ****Long Sobby Post Ahead!!!*** Over 4 years ago at the age of 22, I started Yarrawonga Myotherapy. I moved to a completely new town and started up my own business. I was lucky to get 2 or 3 clients a week and often wondered what have I done. Slowly word of mouth was spreading and 4 years on I had a full book and struggled to fit people in. I want to thank all my loyal, amazing clients that not only in the beginning helped build my business but all those who helped me grow m...entally and emotionally as a young woman. To all my patients that became good friends, to my patients that became my inspiration and to my patients that offered so much wisdom and advice for anything I threw their way. To all of you, you are so special in my life. Not only was I confiding in my patients to open up and speak about life, I slowly found my patients were opening up and confiding in me. Some days you would cry to me over a loss, some days you would share your happiness, some days you would express the hardship your family is going through and some days you would just unload all your emotions. And for this I never felt like my job was just to give a good treatment. My career became so much more than just Myotherapy and for this I am so thankful. The amazing stories I have heard, the kids Ive gotten to watch grow, the photos you have brought in to share with me, the holidays Ive gotten to relive with you and so much more. The good the bad and everything in between, I am so lucky to have built a bond with so many of you. In a short 4 years, I feel I have achieved a lot with my business. But a time come when I felt it was right to move on. Making this decision was one of the hardest decision I had to make. Leaving behind my baby, my effort and my long hard dedication. 10.01.2022 Corked thigh from footy :/ a lot of bruising to come out of this one! As the area starts to stiffen and the localised oedema spreads its important to control the area. Here we have placed Kinesio tape, it pulls the upper layers of the skin, creating more space between the dermis and the muscle. This space created relieves pressure on the lymph channels in the area between the muscle and the dermis, creating more space for lymph flow and thus better lymph drainage through the... affected area. Its very important to control the swelling and bruising to help assist the body in its recovery stage.

10.01.2022 ***GREAT RELIEF FOR LOW BACK SPASMS*** Here is a quick video of me running through some basic back stretches/exercises to create better range of motion. I would say 80% of my patients at some stage have lower back issues. It is such a common complaint ... In this video Colleen my lovely patient is demonstrating 1st - pelvic tilt 2nd - knees to chest 3rd - side knee drop I wouldnt recommend this to someone with an injury (strain or tear) this is for general low back pain or like my patient someone suffering from low back spasms. As you can see these movements are very basic and you dont need much space or time! These ranges of motion would be great to complete after a hot bath or after you have had a heat pack on your low back when you have created good blood flow.

05.01.2022 STERNOCLEIDOMASTOID The name sternocleidomastoid (SCM) actually tells you a lot about this muscle and its attachments. Sterno refers to the sternum, Cleido the clavicle, and Mastoid the muscle goes all the way up on to the mastoid process behind your ear. Since these muscles are in the front of your neck and rarely are in pain themselves, people often forget about them. However, trigger points in this area can cause incredible amounts of pain elsewhere in the bo...dy. - Referred pain It can cause painless neck stiffness when turned to one side, but usually refers pain to the head and jaw. A frontal headache is very common effect of a trigger point within the SCM. Trigger points located close to the sternum in the SCM can also refer pain to the eye socket, tongue and headaches over the eye and ear and in the top of the head. Trigger points nearest to the clavicle can sometimes create a toothache pain in the back molars and in the ear. It can also cause Balance problems. Trigger points within the SCM have the ability to leave you feeling dizzy, nauseous and give you a feeling of falling. Dry Needling this muscle is a very effective release of these nasty Trigger Points.

04.01.2022 Cupping is such an effective tool in helping release the fascia and break up the stagnation of the muscles. This is super effective for this lovely client, as he hits the gym 5-6 times a week and is competing in body building competitions so he has many tight, overused muscles.

02.01.2022 As most of you know, Yarrawonga Myotherapy is up for sale and I am relocating. I will be working up until the end of January. As of this week, I will only be here 3 days a week, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. As news has traveled fast I have had many patients wanting to book in their last few visits, this means my availability is filling up fast! As it deeply saddens me to be writing this post the time has come for me to move on out of Yarrawonga. I look forward to my last few months getting to see my regulars and patients who have become great friends and helped me find my way :) I look forward to seeing many of you for a few last visits.
