24.01.2022 Sleep is unfortunately the victim of everyday trade-offs. Popular sayings like ‘sleep is for the weak’ or ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’ constantly undermine the importance of this basic human necessity. Over the years, research has shown a direct correlation between sleep and athletic performance. It is recommended that 7-9 hours of sleep will allow for psychological, physiological and physical recovery.... #sleepwell #sleepforrecovery #sleepforprevention #sportsandspinalAW #osteosthatcare

20.01.2022 At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender. This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war dead. #remembranceday #lestweforget

16.01.2022 National Skin Cancer Action Week. Each year Cancer Council Australia and the Australasian College of Dermatologists come together for National Skin Cancer Action Week. This is an important reminder to use sun protection and of the importance of early skin cancer detection for all Australians. More than 2000 people in Australia die from skin cancer each year, and Cancer Council estimates that Australia spends more than $1 billion per year treating skin cancer, with costs incre...asing substantially over the past few years. However, most skin cancers can be prevented by the use of good sun protection. That’s why during National Skin Cancer Action Week, all Australians are urged to use the five forms of sun protection. These are to: slip on sun-protective clothing slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen slap on a broad-brimmed hat seek shade slide on sunglasses. A combination of the five measures, along with getting to know your skin and regularly checking for any changes, are key. #skincancerawareness #slipslopslapandwrap #cancercouncil #sportsandspinalAW #osteosthatcare

02.01.2022 DIABETES: NURSES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE The theme for World Diabetes Day 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes. The campaign aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes. Nurses currently account for over half of the global health workforce. They do outstanding work to support people living with a wide range of health concerns. People who either live with diabetes or are at risk of developing the condition need their support... too. People living with diabetes face a number of challenges, and education is vital to equip nurses with the skills to support them. As the number of people with diabetes continues to rise across the world, the role of nurses and other health professional support staff becomes increasingly important in managing the impact of the condition. Healthcare providers and governments must recognise the importance of investing in education and training. With the right expertise, nurses can make the difference for people affected by diabetes. https://worlddiabetesday.org/about/ #worlddiabetesday
