05.01.2022 PROPRIOCEPTION AND INJURY A key component of every person’s functionality, proprioception refers to the body’s ability to perceive it’s own position in space. Proprioception relies on the relationship between the body’s central nervous system and certain soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It’s what allows you to balance standing on one leg, or throw a ball without having to look at your arm. ... Soft tissue injuries can cause damage to proprioceptors, as well as discouraging athletes and non-athletes alike from exercising altogether. Loss of proprioception can lead to injury recurrence, long term joint damage and instability, as well as a range of other functional issues. Proprioceptive exercises can be extremely beneficial in soft tissue injury AND prevention, but every body is different. Our physios will assess and create a plan to treat you individually, for successful recovery or injury prevention. We’d love to talk to you about how we can help. Give us a call to book an assessment (03) 9088 8259
