03.01.2022 SUNCOAST FITNESS BRINGS FIJI TO THE COAST 28/08/2015 Ni Sa Bula Vinaka from Fiji, A number of junior elite surfers for Fiji have been given the opportunity o...f a life time. The Fiji Surfing Association, Fiji’s national surfing body and Sunshine Coasts own Suncoast Fitness group are helping to fund 8 junior surfers and 2 surf coaches, so they can travel to the Sunshine Coast and engage in an Elite Surfing program from August 30th through to September 6th. Through the Suncoast Fitness group, these Fijian surfers and Coaches will gain access to information in regards to surfing biomechanics, nutrition and postural alignment techniques, presented by Australia’s premier Fitness educator Fit College. Another Suncoast Fitness Group initiative and Queensland’s only high performance surf training facility the Ocean Performance Centre will provide the practical application of this knowledge through strength and conditioning sessions, mental development programs and of course high performance surf coaching and video analysis sessions. To gain selection to this international surf training program the junior surfers from Fiji had to show their commitment to the sport of surfing at a number of selection competitions which were held at various locations throughout Fiji. Fiji’s national coaching consultant, Ian Porto Portingale, agreed that by allowing access to the knowledge and experience that is available through the Suncoast Fitness Group and its affiliates, Fit College and the Ocean Performance Centre is the opportunity of a life time for these young aspiring professional surfers. Porto felt that by tapping into the Ocean Performance Centre the participants will receive professional training and an excellent look into what is required to reach the International stage. The Fijian coaches in attendance will also receive mentoring during the visit then take away new ideas and structures to further assist the juniors back in Fiji. Not only is this program an amazing opportunity for these Fijian Surfers, this program is developing business and tourism relationships between Fiji and the Sunshine Coast. The benefits of this will be felt far beyond our local surfing community. Endeavors such as this have never been undertaken by our local surfing community in the past and will most definitely help put the Sunshine Coast on the map as an international destination for health, fitness and surfing education. Mark Stitt CEO and Director of Suncoast Fitness Group, FIT College and a Director of OPC believes This is a great opportunity to help create sporting relationships with our South Pacific Neighbors and to assist with development programs in one of the fastest growing sports on the planet, Surfing. We hope that this program can be replicated and create awareness for the development of Surfing as a Professional Sport and the facilities and natural training dynamics The Sunshine Coast has to offer such groups.
