24.01.2022 Wishing all our families a blessed Mothers Day

22.01.2022 Be aware and prepared this disaster season.

21.01.2022 We are blessed to be surrounded by rich cultures in our Springfield community. Our visit from the Thai students currently studying at Union Institute of Language (UIL) Springfield, gave us a wider scope of the world around us. We enjoyed traditional dances performed by the students, dressed in their traditional clothing. Our children were invited to dance with them and learned a few steps. The Thai students also shared a few words in their language with us to practice, which was more difficult than we thought! OSHC offered other activities for all to take part in as the interactions supported friendships developing and sharing of valuable multi-cultural interactions. A big thank you to the UIL for including us in their international programs.

21.01.2022 Our cultural day was planned by our children. A highlight was cooking paneer which is a popular Indian flatbread made with whole wheat flour and cottage cheese stuffing. Paneer is a popular favorite and usually served in most restaurants as well as Punjabi Dhabas (road side eateries). After cooking and cleaning, we could taste our creations. #handsonlearning

20.01.2022 So far this year in Queensland, there have been more than 45,000 confirmed cases of the flu. This number reiterates the importance of following our flu tips, to... avoid spreading germs, especially to those most vulnerable in our community. Remember: ALWAYS sneeze or cough into a tissue Avoid coming to work or visiting public places when sick Wash hands often and thoroughly Get the flu vaccine, it's not too late to vaccinate

20.01.2022 Our April 2020 Vacation Care program is in full swing! Today we decided: I'll be one of the Who's of Whoville". So we picked Cindy Lou Who and created interesting hair do's! We had to research how we could copy different hair styles and decided to keep this a secret for now! (Parents can ask their children tonight....) Our day also included making creative fruit baskets because: "Who's young and old would sit down to a feast; and they'll feast, and they'll feast." A few students made sure we all enjoyed apple baskets with bananas and strawberries - so yummy! We are excited to see which Dr. Seuss activities next week will deliver ....

20.01.2022 Today our year 4 students were very excited to share what they have learned during their school excursion. Taking care of the environment is part of our sustainability program at OSHC and this includes keeping our community clean. Our children were inspired and suggested to collect and dispose of the rubbish polluting our school community. During this clean up, our children found soft bottle lids which we placed in our allocated recycling bins as part of our current community project through Envision Hands. What a great way to take care of our earth as small changes make a big difference!

19.01.2022 OSHC wishes all our fathers a wonderful day as we celebrate you!

18.01.2022 Our Forest School excursion has finally arrived! It was strange to be dropped off at an open field area! We were grateful when the friendly staff from Wildlings Forest School greeted us and walked us straight to our areas deep into the forest! All of us got right into it and learned new skills by sawing wood, engaging in the arts and crafts activities, making mud pies, building cubby houses, exploring tools and building with these accordingly. Even though we had to overcome a few obstacles by using the camp toilet and ‘moving’ spiders away from us, we all had tremendous and engaging fun, going wild in nature and creating life long memories! Until we meet again Wildlings! Thank you for a brilliant morning!

18.01.2022 Protect yourself and loved ones this flu season

18.01.2022 Today our visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary met all our expectations! The beautiful landscape which is home to many Australian wildlife, offers a range of exciting learning opportunities. We met many creatures but our favourites included a sleek python a noisy rainbow lorikeet a sleepy koala a few lazy crocodiles many kangaroos talkative wild birds and many more but dont forget the big lizardsand cheeky bush turkeys who begged for some of our lunch! We learned that our greater world needs us to take good care of its creatures, to work together in reaching these goals and that small changes can make a big difference. Most importantly we had fun touching most of the animals and sharing these special moments with our friends. #sustainability #wildthings #OSHCfriends

18.01.2022 Another day, another exciting excursion! Our visit to the new Orion Playground was a huge hit. We tested our physical abilities by exploring all areas and then pushing the limits by climbing higher and spinning faster! We were mindful of the smaller children playing around us from the public and represent St Peters proudly! Our excursion continued onto swimming at the Lagoon. The water was refreshing and we played many games with our educators. We could not take any photos of this as we were having too much fun! We completed our excursion with yummy ice cream from Cold Rock Ice Creamery who always looks after us very well! What great community connections our greater Springfield has to offer!

18.01.2022 Xplor has released a new parent app called Xplor Home. This is now available to download for free as Xplor Home will later replace all other parent Apps. This new App upgrade promises easier navigation and has brilliant new features. All families are encouraged to download the Home App without delay to enjoy better connections between OSHC and home life! More information will be shared with families via e-mail shortly.

17.01.2022 Last week some of our OSHC children asked if we could make our own TikTok dances. Educators set the rules that no faces could be identified, the dances could only be posted on our OSHC Facebook page and the TikTok songs had to be screened to ensure they were appropriate. With this in mind, our children began making a list of songs and dances they wanted to try. We now introduce to you The Animal TikTokkers - Our brand new OSHC group creating awesome TikTok videos for our f...amilies to enjoy. They worked very hard learning the moves to the first dance along to the TikTok song called Laxed. We also have some amazing little media stars in our OSHC family. Although these children are too shy to be on camera, they were very confident to work behind the scenes, filming and tweaking the media footage to make these awesome videos. We hope you enjoy their first creation! Please stay tuned for more from The Animal TikTokkers! See more

16.01.2022 Today we would like to welcome our families to our new room in MB01 situated next to the Staff Carpark. Please follow the signs for an exciting start to Vacation Care!

16.01.2022 The Animal TikTok dancers have been very busy over the past few weeks preparing their next dance to the song Im Ready. This dance challenged the children as it required quick and complex dance moves. Our crew accepted the challenge and persevered and practiced diligently to master the routine. Our media friends learned new skills when videoing and compiling our recordings into this awesome clip. The learning escalated into amazing teamwork, persistence and a lot of fun during the process. We are very proud of our new entertainment crew, The Animal TikTokkers!

14.01.2022 Our cultural celebration day included henna tattooing. This symbolises joy, beauty, spiritual awakening and offering for Indian brides. Others from Morocco often paint doors with henna to bring prosperity and chase away evil. Our children enjoyed seeing how this plant based substance dyed their skin as it dried. We learned that henna can be used to dye hair. We also wore little red dots in between our eye-brows which are traditionally worn by women and called bindis. It can be called 'sindoor' which means 'red', and represents Shakti (strength) and symbolizes love.

14.01.2022 With each door that closes, a new one opens. We are very blessed to welcome our new Educational Leader, Mrs Jennie to our service. She is an existing staff member and has successfully stepped up to advocate for our children on a different level. Jennie comes from a vast background of Educational Leadership including 13 years of experience working in OSHC. Please help us welcome Jennie and supporting her in her new role.

13.01.2022 What an exciting afternoon as we received a surprise visit from Miss Jennies two new ducklings! We were so happy to play with them and feel their soft feathers, even though some children were a bit nervous at first. Of course they were too cute to resist and we quickly discovered how gentle and cuddly they were. Miss Jennie helped us understand what they need to be well cared for and what a healthy meal looked like for ducks. It is a big responsibility to care for animals and Miss Jennie provides the perfect environment for them in her backyard. Thanks for sharing your beautiful babies with us, Miss Jennie! What a brilliant learning experience!!

13.01.2022 Very important to know...

13.01.2022 A timely reminder

12.01.2022 As part of our Science week celebrations, we have planned many exciting projects and experiments. Today we started creating a paper mache moon using flour and water which helps us to learn about cause and effect. We are extending our learning on the Solar System as this has been a favourite amongst our children. We will work together on building our own system and gathering information needed to complete this. Our Prep students also enjoyed starting their colour changing flower project using food colouring and water. Pop into the OSHC room at any time and join in our exciting Science Week projects!

12.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day

11.01.2022 We speak for the trees, like the Lorax does by taking care of our environment. Part of our childrens vision in our sustainability process was a request to revamp our worm farm into a bigger one. A good friend of OSHC made us a bigger worm farm by reusing an old orange wheelie bin. The children had a great time transferring our wiggly friends to their safe new home today. We all learned what a worm farm needs to stay healthy and produce worm tea for our gardens, which includes staying cool under cover. Next time you visit, see if you can spot the orange wheelie bin and remember: this bin is not for trash! We are excited to see how our veggies will grow with the help of our squiggly friends!

11.01.2022 We wish all our families a blessed Palm Sunday

09.01.2022 Our beloved Educational Leader, Miss Emily will be spreading her wings and moving to Biloela, QLD next week. This exciting teaching opportunity crossed her path and it was just too great to refuse. Her last day at OSHC will be this Monday. It is with sadness that we have to see her go but we send her with God's blessings and wish her the best of luck for her new adventure. Thank you, Miss Emily for advocating for our children and always having their best interest at heart. We will miss you!!

09.01.2022 Chickenpox (varicella) is a highly contagious viral disease. The main symptom is a blistering, itchy skin rash. Children and adults can be immunised against chickenpox. These are some symptoms to look out for.

07.01.2022 OSHC would like to welcome all our new and current families as term one kicks off tomorrow! Please ensure all enrolment packs are completed and submitted before attendance can commence at OSHC. We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning life skills through play experiences. In the meantime, here is some inspiration for packing healthy and interesting lunches for our growing children. https://www.modernhoney.com/back-to-school-kids-lunch-ideas/

07.01.2022 Thank you 9 NEWS

07.01.2022 Our Vacation Care started with furry friends! We learned so much about animal welfare, compassion and love for animals. Our guide, Daryl and his team made sure we understood what RSPCA stood for. The easy version meant Really Special People Caring for Animals! We visited all areas of the amazing centre. Our favourites were the Animal Hospital, Wildlife Centre, cats and kitten adoption and farm animal enclosure. We thank the RSPCA for their amazing work as many staff and volunteers work behind the scenes to give all animals a second chance.

06.01.2022 Miss Dione, we wish you all the best as you go on maternity leave! We will see you next year.

05.01.2022 Todays excursion was nothing short of thrilling as Sky Zone Macgregor offered many challenging play spaces! All ability levels were catered for as we explored the activities offered such as jumping on trampolines and off the walls, jumping into foam pits, dodge ball on trampolines, a ninja course with balancing challenges and our favourite: Lazer Tag! Even though we got tired, we were sad to leave such a fun arena. There will be many sore legs tonight after an adrenaline filled day!

04.01.2022 The Music Bus visited us today with their van kitted with musical instruments, speakers, microphones and so much more. We created our bands of five members (small groups to keep safe) and jam out to We Will Rock you. Free dancing and expression were welcomed followed with games and prizes from The Music Bus! Our talent show was a great hit and our winners included a magician, a singer and a dancer. OSHC can be proud of their achievements today but above all, we had SO much fun!

03.01.2022 Today marks the last operational day for 2019. We would like to thank you for allowing OSHC to take care and spend time with your amazing children this past year. We are looking forward to the New Year when we return on the 6th of January 2020. Until then, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a restful break! Stay safe and enjoy the holidays

02.01.2022 We love to play but it kept on raining! So today we made the most of it during After School Care #rainwillnotstopus #refreshingrain #goodtimes

01.01.2022 This year is the first time were balancing Child Care Subsidy (CCS), so it may take us longer to do compared to Family Tax Benefit. We appreciate your patience.... Well send you a letter once weve balanced your payments, so theres no need to call. Results of CCS balancing will start to be available from mid-August. Its important to know the balancing process for CCS is different to Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate. We can only balance your CCS once you and your partner have lodged tax returns, or told us you dont need to lodge. If you've already done this, theres nothing else you need to do! We have more info about balancing CCS here: https://www.humanservices.gov.au//balancing-your-fa/29376
