12.01.2022 The average millennial attention span is now 10 seconds, which means you might not catch the end of th... - Trevor Carss. For those of you still reading (clearly not the millennials), this is why our resumes follow what we like to call the wine menu theory. So many resumes we come across are 4, 5 or even 6 pages long. There's a couple of reasons why this is bad:... 1. People simply don't want to read that much about you. Recruiters are people. Put two and two together and that’s why you need a short resume. 2. Leave yourself something to talk about in the interview! Don’t spill all the beans in your resume. One sure way to get a potential employer offside is to speak about everything they’ve already read. 3. Less is more. It actually impresses recruiters if you can say everything you need to in a page or two. So back to the wine menu theory. Most resumes we see are more like food menus super long, wordy and full of meaningless info that lacks substance. The wine menu on the other hand is short, sharp and to the point. Oh, and what’s the first thing most people pick up at a restaurant? You got it - the wine menu.

07.01.2022 So Spot On's made you a killer resume, but now what? Over the coming days we'll be running you through some simple tips to make sure you firstly get an interview, and then nail it once you're there. Today's tip: there will always be a contact person listed on a job ad, so don't be afraid to give them a call and have a chat. It shows great initiative to make a quick call to find out a little bit more about the role, learn more about the company or clarify something in the key selection criteria. Just make sure you have something legitimate to talk about - no one likes a time waster!
