25.01.2022 THIRD XI Round 2 Wrap! Toss : Won by Spotswood and elected to Bat... Scores : Spotswood : 2/142 Laverton : 47 all out Result : Spotswood won by 95 runs Batting Highlight : Moe Khan 59 and M Cranwell 39 Bowling Highlight : J. Amos 7/7 of 5.2 overs Result : Spotswood won by 95 runs , Batting Summary : Cranny and myself gave us a solid foundation by putting on a first wicket stand of 83, before Cranny departed by losing his wicket to their captain. I then followed with the score on 118 , and with 5 overs left, Mick and Sully took us to our final score of 142 for the loss of 2. On a difficult wicket that kept low on both sides and a slow outfield, we felt that a par score was 110 to 120 runs, Mick and Sully managed to push us pass this score without losing any their wickets, great job guys. Bowling Summary : Young Amos finally found his mojo and ripped through the Laverton batsmen, at times he was too fast too quick and they just had no answer, He ended up with figures of 7/7 ( including 3 no balls ) . Silent heroes of the game was Crispy and Hayden , week in week out , they toil over after over bowling great lines and pushing the required run rate higher with every dot ball. Overall Great win guys, I feel the team is well positioned to take on Yarraville Club next week , GO SPOTTY !!

22.01.2022 Some Spotty History

21.01.2022 First XI Round 10 Wrap! As we approach the end of the season Round 10 saw us away to Glenroy as we sought to make it 3 wins from 4 games after Christmas, with 1 game being a washout last week. Our habit of losing the toss unfortunately continues with Glenroy deciding to send us in on a good-looking wicket that would provide enough help for the seamers in the early overs.... Ross and Jarryd continued their run of solid starts opening the batting before Ross was dismissed which brought Jakson night to the wicket at 1-32. Jarryd and Jakson combined for a solid partnership of 71 to accelerate the innings through the middle overs before Jarryd fell just shy of another half century dismissed for 45. Captain Mac Short then joined Jakson and they put on a brilliant display of batting dispatching Glenroy’s bowlers to all parts as they put on 126 for the 3rd wicket and capitalised on the solid start from the batters who had come before them. Mac batted fantastically for 60 before he was bowled by their veteran leg spinner. Jakson had batted superbly all day and looked certain to score his maiden hundred for Spotswood. However, he fell for 89 in the second last over but again showed his masterclass ability with the bat and terrorised Glenroy’s bowling attack. The innings ended at 5/225 off our 40 overs and would set Glenroy a big challenge to chase the runs down. To cement our dominant position in the game Max Buck (2/17 off and Dan Schuppan (3/23 off took advantage of a fresh red cherry and had Glenroy reeling at 4/14. Glenroy managed to consolidate with their middle order and strung a few partnerships together as they rebuilt to 7/65 before Jarryd (2/30 off and Matt (3/20 off 7.2) managed to clean up the lower order and bowl them out for 109, putting the finishing touches on a big win. Promising signs from us as we have begun to find some late season-form and make a run for the top 4. We are back at home next week against local rival Seddon aiming for a 4th straight win!

21.01.2022 Demolition in progress.

20.01.2022 The first cricket club in Spotswood was formed in 1891, which was the Spotswood Churches Cricket Club. This club was to be the foundation club that joined force...s with the newly created Spotswood Cricket Club in 1929. Westgate Cricket Club amalgamated with Spotswood CC in the 1972/73 season and proved to be very successful with the clubs premiership win in its first season in Senior Division. 15.01.2022 RD 2 Altona Roosters V Spotswood Great to get our first win for the season with an all-round team performance. I should have known the day was going to be an interesting/bizarre experience when there were a number of crop circles in the outfield. I have played a lot of cricket, but this one is for the record books. I now truly understand the phrase It’s just not cricket. Having said that, it is a great testament to our team, the way we played and carried ourselves (True Spo...tswood character). We won the toss and decided to bat on a wicket which looked like it was going to play low and slow. I’ve always said that if you could get 2 partnerships of around 50 each in a one-day game you put yourself in a position to win more than you lose. Damian Martin was dominant again with back to back batting performances making 50. Some old bloke contributed with a handy 42 and then the middle/lower order chipped in to produce a final total of 172. I was very confident that 172 was more than enough for our bowling side to deliver a win. But, when playing against an unorthodox team, games can sometimes slip away. Credit to our bowlers. They bowled to a plan and understood the wicket and conditions. Fred Colechin was exceptional with his first ever 5 wicket haul. Opening the bowling for us, Fred has worked really hard on his game and deserves all the rewards that come his way. He finished with 5/10 off 8 overs. Ayden Norman came in after drinks to finish off the win with some direct bowling 3/7 off 4 overs. The rest of the bowlers were great and unlucky to not be within the wickets. I was pleased with our improved fielding, we had good concentration and did the basics very well. Altona Roosters were all out for 68 off 27overs. We face one of the top sides (Airport West) at home next week and it will be a great challenge to get a win at home. We are hoping Tom Kirby is safe and well, he is currently in the witness relocation program. See more

10.01.2022 U15 Round 3 Wrap! We faced off against Williamstown Imps, the boys put in a really solid all round performance, coming away with the win. The focus coming in to this match was to improve our bowling lengths, which was evident throughout the game, with all bowlers contributing and bowling economical overs. Opening bowlers Jack and Zach really set the standard with their pace, line and length. All bowlers did really well and supported each-other, and by far was the best bowling... performance thus far. We bowled 25 overs keeping the Imps to 97. A key focus for the batting was hard running in between the wickets and not losing consecutive wickets. Blake emphasised this perfectly, creating lots or runs through his hard running and strategic batting. Blake and Jack were the top two scorers for us, however everyone played their role in chasing down the runs. We had a mini collapse at the end but still made the runs with a few overs to spare. Overall was a very well-rounded performance, we’re very proud of how the boys are improving and want to keep this level of enthusiasm up going into next week. - Max, Jagger and Tom

08.01.2022 Season 2019-20 Acknowledgement Cory Jacobs best player in Senior West A1 Grand Final When picking up Cory at the start of the year from Eaglehawk we picked up not only a good player but also a leader. Cory was to play all the one day games but loved the team and ended up playing majority of all games. Come the final Cory was the one who stood up with a great performance with the bat and ball. While batting first we lost of few wickets along the way when Cory strode out and ma...de an impressive 51 with some hard hitting, leading us to make 177. With our attack we had runs on the board. We got a couple of wickets early then Abers started to compile a partnership when Cory caught and bowled their key player in Sheedy for 51. Cory then had captain caught behind by Ross finishing with 2-19. Abers finished with 6-135 with a new ball due first up next day and Schuwey and Klasso were ready to go, we were into their tail before the game was called off due to Covid scare. A fantastic effort Cory in winning the best player for the Grand Final See more

08.01.2022 Fourth XI Round 2 Wrap! After winning the second toss in a row, we choose to field and couldn’t have started better with Vish getting a breakthrough in his 3rd over when the score was just 10. The wicket was slow, and with a strong wind, the Point Cook innings progressed slowly with Harry and Vish bowling tightly, and with the good fielding reduced scoring opportunities. Nathan, like the first game, took a wicket in his first over. Point Cook steadied with an 80 run partners...hip before Stuey Redpath having his first bowl for the year was able to break the partnership with Nudge taking the catch at mid-off. Vish and Harry closed the innings, and both took a wicket in the last four overs to ensure Point Cook didn’t get away, finishing at 5-144. A special mention to Vish who bowled 7 overs into the wind at the start and end of the innings with great figures of 2/19, bowling good line and length. Harry 1/27, Nathan 1/26 and Stuey Redpath 1/20 being the other wicket-takers. Our batting never got going except for John Robbins with a well made 30 his second good innings in two games. Wickets fell at regular intervals with no other batsmen able to reach double figures being bowled out for 64. Next week is a new game, and we look to bounce back quickly.

07.01.2022 Great effort by the boys to volunteer their time to help paint the sponsors signs today. This is what helps make a great club. Thanks Vinnie, Sid and Fitzy.

07.01.2022 Second XI Round 10 Wrap! We had Glenroy at home this week and we won the toss and had a bowl on a pretty green wicket. It took us a few overs to hit our groove with the new rock as we were a little wayward early with a few loose balls and wides. Amos struck first against the run of play but they were still scoring pretty freely to be 1-40 odd after 12 overs. From there we really controlled the innings as Simmo broke it open with 2 wickets in the over to bowl out his 8 straigh...t (2-16). We never gave them back momentum as we just squeezed and dried up the runs and that led to us taking regular wickets. Gags again with another 2 wickets and bowled a treat but it was MJ who ran through them picking up 4-9 off his 8 overs in what is the best spell i have seen him bowl so far for the club. Really happy with the bowling to knock them over for 88 in the 33rd over. With the bat i think it was important to just take the new ball out of the game because it gets a lot easier from there. We lost a couple early but Cougs and Guy saw us through and just got the job done putting on almost 50 before we lost Cougs. Jason came out then and just put the game to bed with some late hitting as we knocked the runs off in 27 overs 3 down. Cougs, Guy and Jase all got 20odd. Half a game out of the 4 and we look to Seddon this week as we make our push for the 4.

06.01.2022 This Thursday is our Club Meeting! The link will be provided on Thursday.

05.01.2022 William (Will) Scothern played in both U13B Friday and U13A Saturday also being selected in the U12 WRJCA Rep Team. Friday U13B 152 runs @ 25.33 top score of 38... Saturday 13A 242 runs @ 30.25 top score of 39 Made more than 25 seven times throughout the season Combined bowling and fielding numbers 10 wickets @ 35.70 with 8 runouts and 7 catches in the field. Also received U13 Allrounds Award

05.01.2022 U13 Round 3 Wrap Round 3 saw our U13’s team take on Seddon Blue in our first home game at Edwards. The ambient sitting on 35.7C, just under the cut off point. We batted first and decided the reverse the batting order from the first 2 rounds. Zoe and Krishna opened up, and Zoe didn’t muck around smashing the first ball for 4 not bad facing up to an U12 REP player. Unfortunately, Zoe then got bowled on the last ball of the 1st over. Krishna also got off to a good start scori...ng runs early in the 2nd. Then there was a mix up and Banger, who was promoted to no.3 got run out for a diamond duck. We then lost a couple of more wickets and by the 6th over were 4/18. Lewis and Redders then put on a partnership to steady the middle order. Lewis went on to retire after his 30 balls making 11 runs. In his 3rd game this was a great effort. Scothy came in, smashed a nice boundary, then the Scothy/Redders partnership curse happened again when Scothy got run out. We turned to the 3rd umpire, as it was a very close call made by the square leg umpire, but with Australia and India playing at the same time, all the television cameras were at the SCG rather than Edwards. No benefit of the doubt going to the batsman. Cooky was also unlucky getting a fine nick to the keeper to depart for 1. We ended on 7/103. Well done to Lewis making 12 runs, and continuing to improve each week. Redders also pitched in with 52n.o. The experienced line up from Seddon Blue started strongly with the bat. After 5 overs they were 0/37, and handling our faster bowlers making use of the fast Edwards outfield and our undermanned fielding. Lewis then got our first wicket surprising the batsman with a slow half tracker. Then the cricket gods struck, Banger came in after making a duck, to bamboozle the batsman with his loopy medium pacers. His first wicket was their U12 REP player, where he threw one up, that dropped suddenly right on the popping crease which was edged through to Krishna who took a marvellous catch. He then got another wicket in the last ball of his over thanks to a catch from Redders. Zoe started off a bit loose, but was able to steady and also picked up a wicket thanks to a blinder (John Dyson-esque) from Scothy. Banger and Redders then combined again giving Banger his 3rd wicket. However Seddon were too strong with the bat and finished on 7/184. It was a great effort to get them all out after 22 overs, and very special mention to Krishna who again did a magnificent job behind the stumps, even fighting back the tears after copping a few hits on the arms from the thunderbolts of Scothy and Redders. Each week Krishna braves it and puts her body on the line thanks and well done Krishna. Also, the bowling is starting to improve, with only 10 extras this week compared to 38 the week before. We’ll keep working at our bowling at training. Leading the way with the ball this week were Banger (Harvey Grouios) 3/24, Lewis 1/28, Scothy 1/27 and Zoe 1/27. Go Spotty!!

05.01.2022 Harvey played both Friday U13B and Saturday U13A (won both grade batting awards)and was also selected in the WRJCA U12 rep team. Friday U13B 275 runs @ 91.67 Top score 54 8 wickets @ 18.50... Saturday U13A 279 runs @ 46.50 Top Score 52 2 wicket Harvey also took 15 catches for the season.
