23.01.2022 It is with great sadness to notify members that Marcus Gillespie passed away at 3.15pm 10/07/2020. As with everything Marcus did in life, he went as he wished, peacefully asleep in bed with a picture of his wife and surrounded by family. He was a stalwart member and will be dearly missed by all of the SKRSL family. Further details will be shared as they become available.

12.01.2022 : Ladies and gentlemen, here’s the stall holder list for Saturday’s #SlowFoodMelbFM at Spotswood. We are working hard to c...ontinue to bring you fresh, seasonal produce and the opportunity to shop in the open air. Many stallholders are now nervous about coming into Melbourne and have decided not to venture into the city in the short term. For those who have come to trade with us, we need to respect that decision and understand what a privilege it is to have this opportunity. To be able to continue to trade, we need your help and understanding to keep our farmers, their families and local communities safe. If one of them were to bring Covid-19 from our market into their local communities it would spell the end of farmers’ market trading in Melbourne. Please help us keep our farmers and local community safe: Wear a mask. Maintain social distancing. Don’t touch any produce. Cashless payment - hover don’t tap. Shop solo - leave the dog, the kids and partner at home. Respect our one way entry and exits, and keep walkways clear. This is not a rehearsal. We are combating a pandemic and safe shopping practices are vital. We’re confident that together we can make this work. 8am-1pm, Saturday 25 July. 59 The Avenue, Spotswood at Spotswood Kingsville RSL *UPDATES* Chiron Organic Health and Scrap Metal Recyclers are coming tomorrow! Yarra Valley Produce send their apologies.

A representative of SKRSL will conduct a poppy ceremony at his service. In Marcus' memory, the family has suggested a donation to his favourite charity Lortsmith Animal Hospital instead of flowers. SKRSL and Marcus' family will hold a public celebration of his life at an appropriate time in the future.

09.01.2022 In the lead up to Remembrance Day each year we are pleased to partner with the incredible Springvale War Cemetery to organise and deliver the Annual State Remem...brance Service; which of course looked a little bit different this year pre-recorded in a COVIDSafe way! The team at the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust have recently published an amazing new and free electronic book called the Victorian War Heritage Book. We encourage our followers to grab a copy and have a read via this link https://smct.org.au/victorian-war-heritage-book

09.01.2022 As part of reopening, some love is required to the surrounds of SKRSL. John K. has done a fantastic job with the Greens and Memorial Garden but the car parks and garden beds need a good weeding and tidy up. If you can spare some time to help, the grounds will be open from 2pm today (Saturday). Please ensure you follow all COVID-19 safe practices and complete the sign in sheet for traceability. Feel free to pull weeds at anytime and place in a pile.

01.01.2022 Today we commemorate Victory in the Pacific and the end of the Second World War! Victory in the Pacific Day, or VP Day, commemorates the end of the Second Worl...d War on August 14, 1945, when Japan accepted the terms of the unconditional surrender set by the Allied Nations. Also known as VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, it is commemorated on August 15, the day that Australian Prime Minister Ben Chifley announced the end of the war in a radio broadcast, before the signing of the official surrender took place on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan, on September 2, 1945. VP Day meant an end to Australia’s war against Japan in the Pacific; a war that had begun half a world away in Europe that was brought close to home after Japan’s unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941, We remember the sacrifices and service of our Diggers who fought for our freedom in the Pacific. #wewillrememberthem.
