15.01.2022 Exciting week this week with the shed getting windows installed, insulated and lined, air conditioning installed - waiting on trenching and electrical then cavies can move into their new home. New racking cages are underway and last but not least my new cavies will be coming down from Queensland, with thanks to Mel Barnes for allowing me to get her lineage to start my stud back up and running. I cannot thank the people in the club enough for their support in what was such a shocking loss.

13.01.2022 The Red connection - Moving forward So I am onto my third generation of trying for a Red Dalmation. I am getting closer. I have finally got totally Red Dalmation with poor markings - roaned red and no blazes. The lack of blazes is a bit of a concern as the two lines crossed should of produced at least one blaze. No worry I will do the next mating when old enough and if the markings don't improve I can either - find an outcross or - breed another red to black dalmation and try for a blaze. These are sideward moves but sometimes necessary.

13.01.2022 The Red Connection As a breeder and a person who likes to create, breeding a show quality Dalmation becomes exciting when a new colour combination is started. Creating a new colour in Dalmation takes time focus and dedication. So how does this all come about? Having black Dalmation help with the breeding of the red into the lines as they are black based. If you wanted to breed a chocolate based colour a chocolate Dalmation would be needed. A little knowledge on genetics is r...equired for this. The genes are important. So the first litter has arrived and as expected roamed red and black but a step forward. I usually have at least two pairs in for breeding to move forward with the next process. So now I have black from red Dalmation breeding and black from Black Dalmation breeding - I DO NOT want to get these mixed up and breed the red into my black lines accidentally. These blacks carry a good 50% red gene that can be bred back to a Red based Dalmation. The Red based Dalmation will go back to a self red and the red based Black to a Dalmation From red breeding from the other litter (so long as you get the right sex!) the bubs that come from the first crossing will look like they need to be pet homed - but dont throw the baby out with the bath water. They are the key to getting the red Into the Dalmation. The next matings will see improvement to colour See more

13.01.2022 Due to a shed fire Ambience stud will not be available for quite a while. I hope you can all continue to enjoy your cavies - I have lost every thing in the fire and will have to start from scratch. It is not going to be easy. I will let you know when I return. RIP my beautiful cavies. Fly free - I miss you all so much
