24.01.2022 Be prepared for sure but if a fire is coming toward you... know your best exits!
24.01.2022 This week, 14 Antarctic expeditioners preparing to head south received specialist fire training with Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) near Hobart. Read more about it here: https://www.antarctica.gov.au//antarctic-expeditioners-tr/
22.01.2022 It is not just about a fire!! Many and various aspects to career firefighting
22.01.2022 Remote area firefighters are deployed to fight fires in remote areas and in difficult terrain. A range of skills are required that vary greatly to traditional f...irefighting. Volunteers will play a vital role in enhancing our remote area firefighting capability this summer and beyond. The first 20 will be ready to go this week after an intensive period being trained by our skilled and experienced RATs. 10 more will be ready by December, increasing our remote area firefighter numbers to about 130. RATs in training this weekend at Buckland by Matt Davis (TFS)

17.01.2022 A very grateful thankyou to Northwest Woodcraft Guild ~ who kindly made the wooden box which is housing the new Defibrillator unit now housed inside the ENTRANCE to SPRENT FIRE SHED where it has been placed for ease of access not only for the volunteer fire fighting but too, if anyone in the community has the need to assist in an emergency of cardiac arrest.

13.01.2022 Last night both past and present members of the Tasmania Fire Service were able to celebrate Maurice Hill’s 50 years of dedicated service to our brigade and the Sprent community. Maurice has been instrumental within the Brigade from the start, back when only a tanker trailer was the appliance, seeing the station get built and for always being a great mentor to the members that have came through the brigade. Well done Maurice!
12.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
11.01.2022 There may be snow tomorrow night.... the next day? It will be cold! This is a good tip!
10.01.2022 For any rural property, this is vital information. Arriving at night onto a property can be challenging too, to locate water to refill a truck. Worth having a property 'map' for your local station to keep on record showing main residence, sheds, tanks, plus the all important dams with truck access.
10.01.2022 Do you have a plan for what you'll do if there's a bushfire and you need to evacuate your home? If that plan includes staying at an evacuation centre, we'd urge... you think a little differently this year. As the threat of COVID will be with us for some time, we all need to prepare a little differently to stay COVID-safe in the event of other emergencies that may impact us and our communities. Coordinating an evacuation during the pandemic carries extra risks of close physical contact and person-to-person transmission of the virus, not only to those evacuating but also to emergency services personnel and evacuation centre volunteers. Now is the time to review your personal bushfire or emergency plans and identify somewhere safe to go if you need to leave your home and evacuate to a safe place. Ask friends or relatives outside your area if you would be able to stay with them. Think about when to leave and have a plan for when you’ll go and what you’ll take with you, and remember to encourage your neighbours, friends and family to do the same. And don’t forget to pack some masks or face coverings and hand sanitiser in your emergency kit, just in case. #covidsafe
