22.01.2022 Bridge testing in September was simply a forerunner to the year 8 bridge builders main event held last week in the technology studies department. If you weren’t already impressed by the learning back then, you will most certainly be in awe of the outcome after many weeks of engineering with Mr. Schueler and Mr. Hook; putting the E in STEAM. The aim: to build a bridge structure to span the distance of 1 metre, testing for cost efficiency and load bearing capabilities. Each tea...m had to consider the cost of the materials (popsticks, skewers and glue) while including labour used to construct a bridge using the basic principles and techniques found in bridge structures throughout the world (truss, cable stay, tied arch, suspension, cantilever, arch and beam). You will agree the results are quite impressive. Stay tuned as Springbank launches its video platform demonstrating this wonderful example of student learning.
21.01.2022 We are guessing that you may have flown a kite sometime in your life. So, what makes a good kite? Many of us could probably spot a good kite when we see it; light material, large wing span, tail, diamond or box shape construction. There are a number of interesting scientific laws that need to be considered, and SSC students are investigating and ultimately designing their own kites with these laws in mind. "What are they?" you ask. The four laws of force, commonly referred ...to as aerodynamics are lift, drag, weight and thrust. In simple terms: lift keeps the kite airborne, drag hold the kite back, weight is the force of gravity pulling the kite back to the ground and thrust are the poor legs of the student running like mad to propel the kite forward. Stay tuned for the results of SSC student innovation as they research and build their own kite creation, and the next time you see a kite flying high above, think about the four laws our students are investigating with Mrs Thurlow and Ms Markey to keep it up there.

19.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS to the Springbank Sabres Ice Hockey team for their tournament win term 3 2020. Go Sabres!
17.01.2022 What is food styling? Food styling is the art of arranging food to make it look appealing, tasty, and fresh. This was the task met by senior school students in the Food and Hospitality class this week with Ms. Lowes, and they certainly came to the table with the culinary goods. Creating an appetizing experience is a challenge enough, styling a meal with the view to enchant the visual senses was a completely new endeavor they were pleased to undertake.
16.01.2022 Students, parents and carers, please note that Friday 28 August and Monday 31 August are designated as a Pupil Free Day and a School Closure Day, respectively. Students are not required to attend Springbank Secondary College on these days. Thank you.
15.01.2022 The recognition of a 13-year journey of schooling was celebrated as year 12 students marked the final day of their education at Springbank Secondary College. Each student spoke before an assembly of peers, teachers and parents in regard to their highlights at Springbank and their ambitions for the years ahead. Congratulations to all of our year 12 students and we look forward to celebrating with you further at our year 12 formal dinner on 3 December, 7:00pm, at the Glenelg Golf Club.

13.01.2022 Parents, carers and prospective students enjoyed a guided tour of Springbank during our second Principal’s tour on Friday 4 September. Following a short meeting in our impressive Tower Art Centre theatre, soon to be upgraded with state-of-the-art sound and light technology, groups headed out to visit Springbank’s learning areas and personally experience how we ‘ignite, inquisitive, imaginations’. The first stop took in our acclaimed three-court basketball stadium with café, c...lubrooms and modern basketball training equipment, before a short walk to Springbank’s recently built Trade Training Centre where future builders and carpenters are born and raised. A journey through the science labs where year 12 students were completing their environmental science sample observations, then off to visit the interdisciplinary classroom spaces which have earned us great praise from parents and community leaders in recent years for their focus on inclusivity and individualised learning outcomes. The tour was scheduled for an hour, however, many visitors stayed behind to talk with students and staff about how our school nurtures happy, positive and successful learners. A third Principal’s tour will be held on Monday 21 September 9am 10am. If you are interested in joining Principal Wendy House for this guided tour please complete an online registration http://www.springbanksc.sa.edu.au/contact/book-a-tour

Students will be greeted by our kind staff outside the school admin building at 8:30am in readiness for a school-wide assembly and welcome from principal Wendy House at 8:45am in the gymnasium. Students will then be introduced to their care group room, teachers and support staff before being assigned a locker for the storage of their bags and study equipment.
12.01.2022 Springbank's annual MAD showcase has gone virtual. This year our Beyond MAD (Music, Art, Drama) theme was not only planned to incorporate both exciting theatrical performances and a gallery of student art, but also delicious food, demonstrations of student learning and stalls to purchase items produced by students in their Business and Enterprise studies. Due to the cancellation of this event in term 3, students have been tirelessly working throughout semester 2 to ensure par...ents and friends do not miss out on them showcasing the awesome talent and learning they have undertaken during a tumultuous 2020. We are excited to launch our Beyond MAD video collection now available on our Website and stay tuned as more videos are added in coming weeks. 06.01.2022 The functional screening program has continued at the SSC Basketball Academy with the assistance of our partners at Flinders University. Video sessions were created by the Flinders team, supported by our very own basketball teacher Mr. Brendan Mann, as Springbank students completed a range of sport science activities to complement their practical application tasks. The academy focusses on maintaining good mobility and durability to perform at a high standard in the sport of ...basketball and this can be best observed through the lens of technology to inspect overall performance. The program is designed to assist each student with how their body functions and to prepare them to return to play and competition. Exercises have included body weight activities, such as lunges, squats and bridges. Springbank Secondary College would like to take this opportunity to thank the Flinders University team for their continued support of the Basketball Academy.
06.01.2022 As part of World Arbor Day, Tuesday 1 September, the City of Mitcham Council has kindly donated five Australian native trees to Springbank Secondary College to plant on the school grounds with the view to expanding Mitcham’s tree canopy. The community is encouraged to commemorate the day by planting trees and raising awareness of the importance of their role as the environmental lungs of our planet. Springbank students are joining the cause, coming together to bring life, foo...d, shelter and protection for native wildlife by planting a selection of trees including Bottlebrush hakea, Gungurru, Red flowered mallee, Book-leaf mallee, Golden stalk banksia and Weeping pittosporum. We are very excited to receive this generous gift as we continue to educate our students regarding the importance of local, national and global concerns for our precious environment.
04.01.2022 One of the essential elements of planting and growing trees was in abundance yesterday, however, this was cause for our tree planting ceremony to be moved indoors to the sports stadium as severe weather blanketed much of Adelaide. It was damp, but it did not put a dampener on students, staff and guests celebrating the five trees kindly donated by City of Mitcham Council.
01.01.2022 The Casual Day Fun Run, run by students today, was a community awareness campaign to educate and fundraise in order to help end homelessness. The circumstances that lead to homelessness are many and varied, but where there is a strong heart at Springbank Secondary beating for humanity, there is a chance that someone experiencing such a shadow will finally find a way to turn their life around. Students ran, walked, rolled, skipped and danced around the school oval in a unifi...ed fundraiser, either through a single donation or by way of sponsorship for each lap. The event was held during the Pathways to Success (P2S) lesson with many students reaching 5-6 kilometres in the 50-minute timeslot. Thank you to the students who organized and managed the event, along with the entire student body who participated. Springbank Secondary College has a proud emphasis on community mindedness in the social development of our students, forming a backbone of social consciousness as they move through their education into adulthood.
