24.01.2022 Well, it’s been a few days of mixed blessings...I am really chuffed to have achieved my Reiki qualifications with @claudia_purple_angel but have also made the difficult decision to shut up shop to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. It was sad closing up but my mum convinced me to go through with plans to decorate the clinic with an autumn and Easter theme (as we have done for Halloween and at Christmastime) because you need to give people a bit of normalcy in weird times. Her enthusiasm will always be more contagious than any virus could be! Take care, everyone - and please check back in from time to time as I will be creating a few more guided meditations and sharing tips to help combat these anxious times. Love and light, Karin @ Spring Bowen Therapy
24.01.2022 This is Jacky, a 15 year old Jack Russell cross who was adopted two years ago. His mum brought Jacky in as he had developed musculoskeletal and joint issues due to his age. As a senior dog he was finding it increasingly difficult to stand and sit without help and he had been using walls to lean on as support when standing and walking. A couple of Bowen therapy treatments made such a difference not only to Jackys mobility but also his temperament/personality as his pain level...s reduced and he returned to his sociable, happy-go-lucky self. Here he is exploring the reception area unassisted (while having the mandatory squiz at the passing parade outside) and having a big drink of water after his treatment (looking particularly fetching in his spotty bow tie!) Jackys mum was amazed at his progress and with the vets approval, ended up halving Jackys cortisone dosage. Its such a privilege to be able to help animals in pain, especially since (unlike people) they arent able to express how theyre feeling. Animal Bowen therapy appointments can be booked online via the Spring Bowen Therapy website and of course if you have any questions about the needs of your dog or cat, please feel free to touch base at any time! -Karin #jackjackjacky @ Randwick, New South Wales, Australia See more
23.01.2022 I recently came across an article about new research which reflects proof of the gut's role in Parkinson's disease (rather than the idea of Parkinson's starting in the brain, which was what was previously thought). I find this especially interesting because Bowen therapists will often treat people with chronic conditions (such as Parkinson's and chronic fatigue syndrome) using the 'vagus nerve' procedure - the vagus nerve being the connection between our gut and our brain. The vagus nerve is also the main contributor of the parasympathetic nervous system (our relaxed state), suggesting that chronic conditions may occur as a result of the vagus nerve underperforming over a period of time. https://www.theguardian.com//growing-evidence-suggests-par
23.01.2022 The clinic has reopened - I’ve got my hand sanitiser and I’m ready to roll! I’ve seen and experienced so many heartwarming things during this time of isolation but here’s just a handful - Physically distant picnics with my neighbours in the communal yard A street library (aka converted microwave) to make up for the closure of our public libraries My beloved local café offering freebies to healthcare workers Loads of families out and about in the sunshine and making ...the best of having their parents around more So many new parks and walking routes discovered - at all times of the day! I now offer Reiki treatments in addition to Bowen therapy and online bookings can be made for both via my website. Please be assured that COVID precautions will be maintained in line with health guidelines at all times. I hope you’re also finding some peace and positivity during this period, as trying as it has been at times! #openforbusiness #bowentherapy #reiki #treatment #selfcare #balance #wellbeing #wellness #health #healthy #holistic #healthylifestyle #fascia #randwick #coogee #maroubra #kingsford #bondi #clovelly #bronte #sydney @ Randwick, New South Wales, Australia
23.01.2022 Spring Bowen Therapy will be closed for the next couple of weeks as I'm heading off to recharge the batteries to a place with warmer climes and slower times! The clinic will reopen in the first week of September, but if you need a treatment before this time please contact Lisa from Simply Bowen Therapy. I look forward to seeing you all again in spring!
22.01.2022 Pleased as punch to announce that my brand new clinic is up and running! Although theres still work to be done (Ive had to tell new clients to pretend its an exclusive club as I don't yet have signs), its coming along nicely. After many months of extensive renovations as well as furnishing the place, Ive decided to take myself off for a little break to an island (which just happens to have no phone reception). I look forward to reopening on Sunday 24th of February - Id love to hear your thoughts/suggestions about the look of the clinic in the meantime.
21.01.2022 I’ve always loved the shift from winter to spring. The longer days, the scent of jasmine, a fresh start. We may still be in the midst of a pandemic but spring serves to remind us of the promise of new beginnings. Things have a way of working out in the end...and if it’s not working out, then it’s not the end. Happy spring, everyone! #SpringHasSprung
21.01.2022 Theres something about this current climate that really makes me appreciate the simple things in life that Ive always taken for granted - like the dawn of a new day, treasured moments with friends and our beautiful green open spaces.

18.01.2022 Over the years, Ive applied human Bowen therapy moves to cats, dogs, a couple of chickens and even a goat - they all seem to really love Bowen! This is Saskia after one of her treatments. Im really excited to finally study Bowen therapy specifically for canines and felines this weekend (including body and gait assessment as well as common issues/conditions present in certain breeds)...because everyone deserves a pain-free life, and that includes our furry friends! Please note that the clinic will be closed on Sunday but it will be business as usual next week.
18.01.2022 I suppose there are worse places to be stranded than on a subtropical island...fortunately me and little Stumpy are weathering the storm! But (due to flight cancellations) unfortunately there will not be a Bowen clinic tomorrow. Hope everyone on the mainland is taking care and staying safe. #theCword #cyclone #lordhoweisland
17.01.2022 Sunday music on, doors flung open once again, warm air flowing...in short, it's time to come out of hibernation. Happy spring, everyone! #SpringHasSprung
17.01.2022 Stressing about what lies ahead comes naturally, but being anxious about things we have no control over may not be the most helpful response. Give meditation a go to focus on the here and now...this is my first time giving a guided meditation so please feel free to share your thoughts/feedback in the comments below. So how else are you planning to unwind over the coming weeks?
17.01.2022 Not gonna lie, lady - this pat feels a bit weird...hey, why am I getting so sleepy?...aw, I enjoyed that in the end - gizza kiss! #PeanutTheChihuahua @ Randwick, New South Wales, Australia
17.01.2022 New website is up and online booking for people and animals is now available! Im really excited to offer 25% off all animal treatments throughout November and December (NB: full price is listed on the website). This photogenic boy is Ned, who unfortunately had to have his front leg removed due to cancer. Ned was one of the first dogs that I ever treated and one of the reasons I decided to study Bowen therapy for cats and dogs (after becoming a Bowen therapist for people). Fo...r a three-legged dog or cat, the remaining limbs have to work extra hard to support their weight when standing and walking and over time, the muscles can start to stiffen as a result. Therefore its really important that the muscles and the connective tissue around their legs and spine are as flexible as possible to give them the mobility they need. A few years on, Ned still loves his bushwalks and he of course remains a very good boy! Being an animal lover, Im really passionate about helping cats and dogstheres really no better feeling than receiving a thank you lick after a treatment and the owner commenting how much more relaxed and mobile their furry friend is. If youd like to know more about how Bowen therapy can help your dog or cat, please feel free to visit my website at www.springbowentherapy.com.au or call me on 0432 685 099 to have a chat. -Karin
17.01.2022 I've had a few clients who have wondered if I had returned from hols (swimming with humpback whales in Tonga) as I haven't posted for a while. I most definitely am back, and have hit the ground running working on an exciting project that I'll be pleased as punch to announce in the coming few weeks. In the meantime, please note that my clinic continues as usual on Wednesdays and Sundays - I look forward to seeing you there!
16.01.2022 OK, so this is definitely not going to win any awards for presentation or production (I was pretty nervous and also didn't realise how dark it had become after the 745th take!) - but seeing as I'm asked all the time was Bowen therapy is and how it works, I just wanted to share some thoughts. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or future video ideas! #bowentherapy #OutOfComfortZone
15.01.2022 Spring might be my favourite month but autumn definitely comes a close second, with crisp, sunny mornings casting a beautiful light in the reception area! #bowentherapy #reiki #meditation #randwick #maroubra #coogee #maroubra #kingsford #bondi #clovelly #bronte #sydney @ Spring Bowen Therapy

15.01.2022 Bowen therapy is often associated with musculoskeletal issues, such as neck and back pain. But it can also be really effective in treating headaches and migraines, as this text from one of my lovely clients demonstrates. She came to see me as she had been suffering from migraines every week for the past 18 years. Since her most recent treatment (a few months ago) she has successfully navigated through stressful situations and has even enjoyed an occasional glass of wine as a treat (both of which had been migraine triggers for her). Because of Bowen therapy's holistic nature, my client's hip pain and clicky jaw has also been resolved through these same treatments!
15.01.2022 To quote a song from one of my favourite childhood movies, for every to there is a fro, for every stop there is a go. Unfortunately today was the last day I was able to offer health fund rebates to clients due to government policy changes to private health insurance. But on a positive note - I am thrilled to say that from tomorrow I will be sharing my clinic space with the lovely Zoe from Zode Kinesiology, who will be working in this cozy room on Mondays and Saturdays. You know what they say, when a door closes, a window opens (although please note that this is a pictorial representation of the exact opposite). If youre a practitioner or a therapist looking to rent a room for your practice or business, please feel free to get in touch!
13.01.2022 Many people associate Bowen therapy with helping treat musculoskeletal issues, but it’s also great for managing the symptoms of chronic conditions such as multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome and Parkinson’s. I received this message from a client recently and it served as a wonderful reminder of what a privilege it is to be able to help others.
12.01.2022 Back pain can sometimes be caused by misaligned hips. My client (who has a physical job as a landscaper) came to me with complaints of lower back pain. There are lots of assessments that Bowen therapists can do to ascertain the degree of pelvic alignment, but one obvious giveaway is when a person's feet flop out when lying (or turn out when standing) instead of pointing straight. Here's a before and after shot of the 'pelvic procedure' - when Bowen moves are performed around the tissues of the pelvis and the leg is lifted and lowered to help the ball and socket joint of the hip adjust back into place. My client's right hip gave a nice audible 'clunk' as it fell back into alignment and you can see here the obvious change on the right side as evidenced by the position of his right foot.
12.01.2022 The three stages of canine Bowen therapy as shared by Nugget the dog: 1. Curiosity 2. Relaxation 3. Kisses!
12.01.2022 The clinic is closed today as Im with a lovely bunch of people continuing to learn how to treat canines and other small animals with Bowen therapy this weekend...I think little Izzie might be a fan! Ill be back on Wednesday, I wish you all a peaceful weekend.
11.01.2022 When the decision to put a sign up in your clinic window advertising for rooms available to rent for fellow practitioners/therapists somehow becomes a very intense arts and craft arvo sesh. If you'd like to have a chat about a potential space for your business (and/or what method of glueing is most effective), please feel free to contact me on 0432 685 099 or by emailing [email protected]
10.01.2022 Jazz up your workplace or home with some plant love...a little side hustle, combining my love of vintage with my passion for plants. Thought it might be a good excuse to meet the many locals who wander past the clinic! $14 a pop - feel free to pop in with or without a plant in hand though and say hello.
10.01.2022 You probably never sang the jaw bones connected to the finger bones in primary school - but they are definitely related! This lovely message was from a client who had been suffering from pins and needles down her arms and numbness in her fingers for a number of years. As is sometimes the case with chronic conditions, it took a little while to determine/locate the source of the problem but we eventually cracked the mystery! So how are our arms/hands connected to our jaw? W...hen the jaw is misaligned or the muscles around the TMJ (jaw joint) are really tight, this creates tension between the bones and muscles in the jaw and head. Over time, our shoulders have to then compensate for this tension, which in turn creates further imbalance in the body. This cascading effect of muscle tension to the shoulders can then result in compression of the brachial plexus nerves (which are responsible for sending signals from the spinal cord to our shoulders, arms and hands). As you can see, the numbness and tingling in my clients arms and fingers dissipated soon after we worked on her jaw. Just another great example of how the holistic approach of Bowen therapy (looking at the body as a whole to determine the root cause of the problem rather than just treating the site of the specific issue) can be so effective!
10.01.2022 Thought I'd throw a cooking demo together for anyone who's housebound a bit more than usual and in need of some guidance/tips on easy meals. I love soups at this time of the year as the air becomes a little crisper. They're like a warm hug for the soul - and that becomes even more important when we aren't able to have any physical contact with each other! If you have any other ideas on how to use leftovers in the fridge (or any other meal you'd like me to try to film - I do have a lot of time on my hands now!), please feel free to add your $0.02 below.

06.01.2022 Really excited to announce that the finishing touches are being done on my brand new clinic in Randwick, and it will be ready for treatments starting from next week! More details to follow shortly.
06.01.2022 A brief description of what Bowen therapy for dogs and cats entails.
05.01.2022 Due to upcoming surgery, the clinic will be closed for the next fortnight and will reopen on Wednesday 29th of January - please note that online bookings are still available via the Spring Bowen Therapy website for anyone wanting an appointment from late January onwards. Im sure Ill be feeling like this guy after a bit of R&R! Wishing everyone an enjoyable upcoming long weekend, I look forward to getting back into the swing of things with treatments resuming in a couple of weeks.
04.01.2022 Many people are surprised to experience a grumbly tummy during their Bowen treatment, which often occurs while they're falling asleep on the treatment table. This happens because the body is switching over from the stressed 'fight or flight' state to the relaxed 'rest and digest', which is essential for the healing process to begin. There's more and more research to suggest that our gut works with our brain to affect our mental and emotional state - for more info on this relationship, feel free to check out this article:
04.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and a peaceful break! Please note the clinic will reopen on 5th January, bookings can still be made online. After turning into one of those adults I never wanted to become as a kid in the last few years (one who looked/felt tired and stressed around Christmastime rather than excited), I decided to embrace my inner child and get the biggest tree I could find this year to help me into the Christmas spirit. Wishing everyone a joyous fe...stive season - and a chance to put your stresses aside for a moment and take the time to embrace the big kid in you! #springbowentherapy #newdecadenewyou #chrissie #bowentherapy #selfcare #balance #wellbeing #wellness #health #healthy #holistic #randwick #coogee #maroubra #bondi #clovelly #bronte #sydney @ Randwick, New South Wales, Australia
04.01.2022 Ruby the rescue greyhound: a Canine Bowen Therapy case study. Treatment to follow in the next video!
02.01.2022 Happy Halloween, everybody! Trick-or-treating was always a big thing on my street growing up and although I’ve decided against handing out goodies outside the clinic this year (due to COVID) there’s no reason why you still can’t get into the spirit! So to speak...
02.01.2022 There’s something about this current climate that really makes me appreciate the simple things in life that I’ve always taken for granted - like the dawn of a new day, treasured moments with friends and our beautiful green open spaces.
02.01.2022 A demo of a canine Bowen therapy treatment, featuring Ruby the Greyhound (an explanation of this is available on my previous video). Please note that an animals condition and history are always taken into account, with treatments tailored to suit the needs of the individual dog or cat. If Ruby was badly injured or an older dog, for instance, the treatment would be a little gentler, much more pared back and may involve more lying down if mobility was an issue. Thankfully Ruby... is still a spritely girl and only needed a maintenance sesh to relax her tight muscles after too much zipping around earlier in the week! The Spring Bowen Therapy clinic is located in Randwick and is available to cats and dogs (as well as humans of course!) of all breeds. More information is available on my website (as well as online bookings) or please feel free to get in touch directly with any questions. See more
