24.01.2022 Hello beautiful people. Come check out my new website. Let me know what you think https://springbrookstorybook.com

23.01.2022 Christina and I visiting local artist Damon Pettit and his good mate Bandy. Come help our local artists - we all need support to continue doing this important work.

22.01.2022 Female Satin Bower-Bird in our backyard. Usually very shy around humans, they are fascinating. Social birds, they live in loose collectives of 20 or more.... As part of the males' courtship behaviour, they will build a dancing floor made of twigs high in the trees, then pick up pale objects with their beaks, and dance about trying try to entice the female. How can any female resist?

22.01.2022 Water beautiful water :) The falls are falling abundantly again at Springbrook! Lots of animals around as well. Well worth a day visit, or even stay for a night or two at Springbrook Storybook Homestay!

19.01.2022 The fires in the next valley have been contained, thanks to the marvellous efforts by the hard-working firies. It's been a hectic few days making preparations just in case, but we can now breathe a sigh of relief. The community of Springbrook has been outstanding in coming together during this time. Our thoughts and heartfelt wishes are with those whose lives have been impacted by these unprecedented events throughout QLD and NSW. We're hoping and praying for good soaking rains very soon. It's time for the Springbrook waratahs to bloom into new life!

18.01.2022 A very good summary of the water extraction issue on Springbrook by a long term local. Thank you Andrew Barr-David for your thoughtful words. As a diverse commu...nity which we are all joined by this unique place I believe we should have the right to make choices about how this place develops and what industries belong here. We all know that Springbrook's life blood is the water that rains on it, the clouds that surround it and the water that slowly releases all year round from it's springs, creeks and waterfalls. I spent some time learning about the geology of Springbrook and it is a small basalt cap containing the water over an impermeable rhyolite plug. All the water leaves the mountain at this interface as waterfalls. The altitude of the waterfalls is approx the same across the plateau. It is a finite resource. Springbrook and the greater hinterland are one of the top ten spots in the world for mega diversity and is a unique example of evolutionary biology. That is why it got a world heritage listing. As we all know the world heritage values of Springbrook don't stop at a the edge of the park. We are all lucky enough to have in our backyards what people travel from all over the world to come and see. The nature of Springbrook needs this water not to be trucked off this place. The population of the Gold Coast depends on the water of Springbrook to fill it's dams so they can survive. The countryside is drying out and dying and burning. People are loosing their homes and livelihoods animals are being killed and forests are being destroyed. We have all been on alert for the last 2 weeks for such an event to visit us. Places like Springbrook deserve better than a growing number of tankers, in my interpretation, stealing an essential part of this place. I don't want to see this place destroyed by a thoughtless quest for a $. There are other ways for people to earn an honest living, the rest of us do. I know how special Springbrook is. I choose to support undertakings that respect this place and invest in it's net gain. Water mining does not. Have you seen the destruction that the property owner has already done as his 'right'. I watched the cloud forest being torn down with an excavator & the driving 'assaulting' a concerned community member who could see the travesty unfolding, bores being drilled on weekends and public holidays in contempt of the laws... All this before they applied for a commercial extraction application which they are resubmitting again as due process is showing them the way through the grey areas. Personally this offends & disgusts me. I know it is wrong. The existing trucks do not stick to their hours of operation disturbing everyone in the early hours who lives in the vicinity of their path off the mountain. I don't want any more - I want less. This is an opportunity for us as a community to push the relevant 'authorities' to fix their grey laws and ordinances in regards to water. I don't want to do anyone out if a job. How about the existing trucks drivers pick up tourists in mini buses from down the hill and bring them up here instead of more and more cars needing more and more parking spots. BTW I believe the trees of Talanbana picnic area are next on the chop for more parking for more cars.... Let the bottled water industry source their fair share of this resource from the town supply and let them pay their fair share just as any other industry does.

05.01.2022 Getting into the community spirit with a bit more progress on the 'Welcome to Springbrook' water tank today. Fun :) With Christina & Francine

04.01.2022 Scrub chook dance :) Clearing leaves around house better than I ever could. Fascinating watching them build their mound.

04.01.2022 Ok everyone it is time for action again. Do you want to see even more water taken from Springbrook’s Waterfalls? This guy destroyed beautiful rainforest, has pu...t down 8 bores and will be taking water from the same aquifer as the other extractors. Even if you just write to the email listed in the info below saying how you feel it is ok. Write MCU/2018/495 in the subject line please do. We will get together more information for you for more detailed reasons why this shouldn’t happen. One is it is a bloody world heritage area! We cannot let this application get approval. Please share. All emails or submissions must have you full name and address and email . See more

02.01.2022 Springbrook National Park is open again. But take care with no lighting of fires allowed, that includes throwing ciggie butts.
