25.01.2022 Welcome to our page Margaret Follower No 500!Welcome to our page Margaret Follower No 500!

24.01.2022 Website Thank You! We are all indebted to Luke for his wonderful photographs and to Clare for her fantastic work on the website layout. Many others provided pics, encouragement and feedback. Thank you all. It wouldn't have happened without the community pulling together as it has.

22.01.2022 Some of the wetland birds from the last few days. The Wood Duck ducklings are growing fast and becoming more independent. There were some new ducklings on the wetland last Wednesday but unfortunately I missed them and they appeared to have moved on. Still grateful to have the photo a neighbour sent.

21.01.2022 Was so pleased to be able to add this Little Pied Cormorant into today's Bird Count. It finishes tomorrow so you can still submit!! Yesterday's 2 Laughing Kookaburras included a young one which was great because we've hardly heard any this spring. The Eastern Water Dragon was way over the far side but too cute not to get a pic.... 20.01.2022 Bathing Buddies Last summer and maybe the one prior, a Grey Butcherbird and Noisy Miner would regularly come for a bath together. The Butcherbird has been a frequent flyer this spring but always solo, until this week when the 2 birds were back together again.... We assume it is the same two, and it seems an unlikely friendship but one that appears to be ongoing. They certainly know how to empty the birdbath!!!

19.01.2022 After 130mm (5) of rain in the last 24 hrs, the weir was well and truly overflowing this morning.

18.01.2022 Some more of our beautiful wildlife.

18.01.2022 Some wildlife photos from the past week. A few wallaby sightings and a lovely pic of a White-faced Heron courtesy of a neighbour. Also a shy pic of a female Satin Bowerbird. The Dusky Moorhens caught my eye when I was doing a bird count. The 'hard to see' wallaby on the private half was one I glimpsed. It is mind boggling to see a wallaby sitting on what should be water. #JobHalfDone

18.01.2022 Our frequent flyer Willie Wagtail enjoyed eating this dragonfly on a neighbour's roof.

17.01.2022 Sunrise and Moonrise over the wetland. Great shots Peter @StingrayRay

16.01.2022 A few photos from late yesterday. Low light and very distant wallabies but the first one shows the joey in the pouch. I love the markings on the face of the second one and a general view looking at the private half of the wetland. #JobHalfDone

15.01.2022 Can anyone identify owner?

12.01.2022 Was about to prepare tonight's post but Facebook have updated yet again and Publishing Tools not working. AaarrrgghhhWas about to prepare tonight's post but Facebook have updated yet again and Publishing Tools not working. Aaarrrgghhh

12.01.2022 Pic 1 is of a young White-faced Heron this afternoon and the 2 cockatoo photos were late yesterday. At first I thought it was the 1st bird back for another drink but the red colouring on the back and tail was missing so they had to be 2 different birds.

10.01.2022 COSS fun for school holidays?

09.01.2022 Saw this on Back to Springfield so I thought it might be helpful to share here as well.

09.01.2022 I was very surprised and honoured to receive CEN's (Community Environment Network) award. It is known as the BAT (Be a Team) Award. I like the name BAT because it reflects that little is achieved by one person and that a team is powerful. Congratulations to all involved with SPW because this is for you too. Congratulations to the other awardees: Best 12th Man Col Ruffels, Rookie of the Year Hugh, Most Outstanding Community Based Organisation: Everglades Lagoon Wetlands Bushcare.

08.01.2022 Great Aussie Bird Count: I made my first ever submission this morning and the following is what I recorded. 08.01.2022 GREAT GOBS OF GREEN GOO !! The wetland was looking decidedly algae-ish this past week so thank goodness for some useful rain. Water is running over the weir again after the water level had dropped about 6cms below the weir. If we get another storm there might be enough flow to give it a good flush again. The algae had found its way to the weir this morning and so was easily raked off, allowing better water flow again.

07.01.2022 Could be interesting for kids too

06.01.2022 Latham's Snipe sighted this morning!Latham's Snipe sighted this morning!

05.01.2022 This may be of interest to our bird lovers.

05.01.2022 The Wood Duck duckling family on the wetland just now. Reflections this morning are lovely.

05.01.2022 We were so lucky to see this young Australian Magpie enjoy what might have been its first bath. Talk about singing in the shower! This one was having a wonderful time and singing all the way calling our attention and keeping us fascinated. It even went back in for a 2nd go. I can't recall ever seeing an Australian Magpie take a bath before - lots of drinks but never getting wet like this. Mum and another young one weren't far away (don't know if they were same family).

03.01.2022 FrogID Week coming up soon. Do you hear frogs where you live or visit? Download the app. This is the easiest ID ever. You just record the frogs, submit, and someone from Aust Museum will listen to it and email the results a few days later. Absolutely no expertise or knowledge needed

03.01.2022 Ok, I whinged that Publishing Tools aren't available since the last Facebook update but fortunately I could still switch back to the old mode, which IS working. Back in July, when Luke worked so hard on removing weed, roots etc, we collected the most rubbish in the shortest time yet. Some of it I have posted before, but this is the whole collection ready to bin. 2 cigarette butts this time, 2 lighters, some old bottles plus the red jacket, masses of polystyrene, lots of r...otting plastic and fabric and the usual balls, containers, packaging including shampoo bottle etc. Also some old ag pipe, reo bars, and the real estate signs. Love the late afternoon sun on the trees that could go if the DA gets approved so had to include that with the cropped one of @StingrayRay holding it all. I keep hoping we have most of it now, until the private end gets done, maybe one day. #JobHalfDone

02.01.2022 Compare these two photographs. They highlight how important it is to protect and grow the Coastal Open Space System. Yet another good reason to become a Friend of COSS.

02.01.2022 Some more photos of the weir this morning after all the rain. A distant shot of the tributary that feeds the wetland, running fast. Meadow Rd even had 'water over the road' which I am not aware of usually happening.

01.01.2022 Just to make my day even more special I looked out the back when I got home to see 2 turtles perched on the boom closest to us. One may have some algae or a growth on its head. If anyone sees it again or gets a closer pic, pls let me know as it may be harmless or something that needs monitoring. Ricky Spencer ... Central Coast Council See more
