15.01.2022 The Off The Track Spring Horse Trials is over for another year and what a huge effort it was for our small but amazing committee. Running an FEI event is a costly and complex exersise but it is important because it gives our riders the opportunity to gain qualifications and points towards their world rankings and athlete categorisation. We had Officials from Victoria, Queensland and South Australia as well as New Zealand and they were a great team. Ewan stepped the course up f...rom Friends of Werribee for the FEI classes which is as it should be. Thank you to your team for producing such a great cross country and to Andrea for her lovely dressing of the fences. We had 20 fabulous sponsors that supported us and we are very grateful to them and hope the riders in turn thank them and support them. For those of you that got onto Signup and happily volunteered we have so much love for you. Our committee are all volunteers and we struggle when people say they cannot spare 2 hours to help out at the event...we literally spend 1000s of hours. We thank the Werribee Park staff for presenting the grounds so well and love the show jumping on the grass! Thanks to David Sheppard for the great courses. Win or lose we hope you enjoyed the event and wish you all the best for the rest of the season. Here are some photos of our event....thank you to Shoulderfore Photography & Derek Oleary for most of the images See more

04.01.2022 Nominate are removing the password...should be up & running in 5 sorry for the inconvenience

04.01.2022 A couple of years ago I was in a warm up area waiting to XC, I was wearing my distinctive black & white checks & trying my best to control my churning nervous g...uts. I always think youre so brave wearing such bright colours said a friend dont you worry it makes you look....amateur? I was bemused Why would I worry about looking amateur? I am amateur I shrugged. When did being an amateur become something bad? When did sharing a sport with grassroots riders become something to be ashamed of, like a dirty nasty secret that shouldnt be admitted? Why is it starting to feel like our very existence is soiling the experience for those at the top of the sport? Our fences may be lower, our dressage movements simpler & our horses cheaper, but I can bet you now the passion In our hearts beats just as strong & the love of the horse thunders through our veins. We may not be so polished but we work just as hard, if not harder than anyone else. We seek out the best training we can, we submit ourselves to intense programmes, we fall off, we pick ourselves up & we limp to work on a Monday & smile at our colleagues muttering something about bloody horses. Then we rush home after a 12 hour day to school under the hazy glow of an arena light & start it all again. We are the ones going without holidays to be able to afford a season of competition or a rickety trailer. We are the ones tying ourselves in knots, sitting with our heads in our hands wondering if we are good enough for the very level you disregard as unnecessary or dumbing down your sport. We may have only one horse but we give it everything we have with that one horse & should we struggle, should we fail, then that pain cuts so much deeper than if you have another 4 horses to give it another shot on. And for what? We know we arent going to stand on a medal podium representing our country, we know we are always going to be *this* side of the ropes at Burghley, we know the spotlight isnt going to shine on us at Olympia. Yet, still we get up at 3am, still we keep trying & giving our best. Beating our own personal demons, achieving our own dreams...all for the love of the horse & the sport we share with you, pro rider. Are we diluting/dumbing down the sport? Or are adding another vibrant layer, where personal triumph is achieved & celebrated over those fences, that you consider too small to even bother schooling over. The rosettes that a pro might throw straight in the bin, are cherished & loved by us, each one made from the satin of dreams & stitched with the thread of determination & slog. They arent just a rosette to us, they are a badge that tells us for that one day we belonged that we were worthy & that we, despite our faults & saddlecloths without a sponsors badge, we are enough. And if we dont win? We go home & tell our friends how we competed against you, pro rider. How we stood shoulder to shoulder on a start line with our hero, someone who had competed at the very top of our sport, & boy, you want to bet your ass we will be so proud. So we enter another competition, daring ourselves to dream a little bigger & push ourselves more. In that group of GR riders that you, pro rider, look down on, theres the woman whos dreamt of competing at this level her whole life, the pony mad kid who saved up enough money to have a go on her loan pony, the bloke who set himself a personal challenge, a woman riding to heal her mental health. The stories behind those riders may not be as exhilarating as grandstand finishes at Kentucky or double clears at Blenheim but each one is exciting, honest & true...& each story deserves to be told. So Im saying this. We need to stop thinking of an amateur as being someone to look down on, our level isnt a condescending pat on the head that you can sneer at. You should be celebrating us & admiring us. Look at everything we achieve! Am I a grassroots amateur? Hell yeah! And I am fucking AMAZING!!
