25.01.2022 9th Grade Report Round 8 vs Glenmore Park at Ched Towns Res. 9th Grade took on Glenmore Park today for the second time this season. Skipper Andrew Hutch lost yet another toss but didn’t mind being sent into bat by the GP Captain. Springwood only had 10’players as well due to the late withdrawal of a sick player. It was very slow going though with an incredibly slow ground that had absolutely no value for one’s shots - with Springwood 3/30 at the 20 over drinks break. After dr...inks, Andrew Hutch and Jon Wright began to lift the scoring rate, with Jon hitting 3 well timed sixes with his trusty bat (that belongs to his 12 year old son!!). Hutch was eventually dismissed for 37 but Jon continued on, smacking the GP bowlers around the ground. Jon eventually fell for his first ever 50 - for 56 - in his first season of cricket - outstanding. Springwood finished 7/115 from the 40 overs. GP came into bat, but opening bowlers Oliver Jenkins and Isaac Selwood started right on the money, keeping a very tight line and beat the bat several times - with Ollie breaking through for the first wicket - and took another the next ball - and came very close to an lbw for his attempt at a hat trick. Some changes to the bowling saw Aaron Jenkins nab one of the bigger hitting GP batsmen to an excellent high catch to Isaac Hutchinson and again some very tight bowling by Aaron and Max Jackson kept GP to 3/21 at drinks. After drinks, GP batsman Sanket Raje came out and tried to lift the scoring rate but some excellent bowling by off spinner Isaac Hutchinson and medium pacer Alex Wright continued to keep the rate down - with Isaac getting another catch with a caught and bowled. And Alex named the vital wicket of Raje, caught behind by keeper Andrew Hutch. After the dismissal of Raje, the scoring rate dropped and Springwood bowled GP out for 76 in the 38th over, with more wickets to Ollie Jenkins and Aaron Jenkins and also to leggie Jack Pohlmann. A great win by the boys. Bowling figures - Oliver Jenkins 4/10 off 8, Aaron Jenkins 2/6 off 5, Isaac Hutchinson 2/14 off 6, Alex Wright 1/11, Jack Pohlmann 1/11 with catches to keeper Andrew Hutch, 1 to John Wright and 2 each to Alex Wright and Isaac Hutch. 23.01.2022 1st grade took on the undefeated leaders of the comp Glenmore Park today at Jamison 5. Losing the toss and being sent in Springwood Brad and Dena made a patient start on a bit of a sticky wicket after several days of rain. Glenmore bowled well, but patience was the key on an outfield that gave nothing. Del was once again the mainstay with a patient 50 not out, Adam scored 18, jack 14 to bat in partnership with Del to see the score to 4-109 off 40overs. Not a big score, but on... a tough wicket and incredibly slow outfield certainly defendable. Scotty and Ben both both their 8 overs out taking a wicket each, but beating the bat several times and restricting the scoring. Matty J and Dean continued to good bowling to see Glenmore 3-39 at drinks. Dean took a wicket first ball after drinks and the game swung our way. Wickets continued to fall under pressure bowling and strong fielding. Outfield catches to Ben and Ewan saw Glenmore implode to be all out for 64. A great win with 5 players out. Special thanks to Matt White, Matt Ness and Ewan Rogers for filling in and helping out the team. 1st game in First grade for each, with many more to come in the future. Great win boys
20.01.2022 Springwood 4th Grade round 7. After losing the toss and bowling first Springwood had an emphatic win over first placed Cranebrook today by 10 wickets. Great early bowling by Peter Crouch and Matt Hunt had Cranebrook scoring very slowly. In 40 degree heat Peter Crouch bowled 8 overs and Matt Hunt 7 overs taking a wicket each. Next up was the skip Nathan Hunt & Ed Cross who took two wickets each to have Cranebrook in real trouble at 6 for 53. Further great bowling by Owen Powell who took two wickets and a wrap up by Adam Mallas taking a wicket saw Cranebrook all out for 94. Batting was never a problem with Adam Mallas and Ed Cross seeing us home in the 19th over. (P. Crouch 1-18, Matt Hunt 1-14, Nathan Hunt 2-17, Ed Cross 2-19, Owen Powell 2-8 and Adam Mallas 1-16. Adam Mallas 57no Ed Cross 28no). Springwood now top of the comp.
18.01.2022 Springwood 4th grade round 14. A disappointing afternoon for Springwood going down by 6 wickets to Glenmore Park. Nothing went the team's way with Glenmore Park bowling well early, some dubious decisions and some speccie catches by Glenmore Park. Springwood all out for 92. With the ball, the unfortunate afternoon continued with some dropped chances and Glenmore Park popping balls in the air to gaps regularly. A special mention to Dylan Krasny for filling in, batting well including a couple of boundaries and taking a few wickets including one nearly unplayable ball that just clipped the top of off stump. Springwood still on top of the competition and hopefully back on track next week playing second placed Jordan Springs.
16.01.2022 9th Grade Match report. Today was a day of, will remember it forever and a day I hope to forget. We lost the toss and were told to bowl by the leaders of the competition Cranebrook. The lads all went out with an extremely positive attitude and that really showed, with the leaders of the Competition wiltering to just 4/11 and then 7/49. With a little tail wagging to have them all out for just 85. All of our bowlers contributing. That was the good bit, unfortunately our batt...ing was slow and we allowed them to dictate to us way to much and at drinks we were just 5/32. After drinks things did not get much better to be all out for 49. Special thanks has to go out to Liam and Brendon Bayliss, Luke Boyse and Owen Powell for filling in for us, greatly appreciated lads. Bowling figures were, Oliver Jenkins 3 / 8 off 5, Aaron Jenkins 1/9 off 5, Zachary Sampson 2/21 off 5, Owen Powell 1/17 off 3.3, Liam Bayliss 1/9 off 3 and Brendan Bayliss 2/8 off 2.2. See more
15.01.2022 Springwood 4th grade Round 13 Springwood continued the winning form today against an under strength Emu Plains side at Sales Park Luddenham with a resounding 10 wicket win. Losing the toss and being asked to bowl on a stinking hot day, Springwood toiled well in the field to have Emu Plains 9 for 124 after their 40 overs. Tight bowling restricted the batting to a well below par score. Wickets were shared with Peter Crouch taking 3, Matt Hunt 1, Skip Nathan Hunt 2 and Ed Cross ...2. Hamish and Ewan Rogers bowled well in tandem to further restrict the score. Catches to Dan Tupper, Ewan and Hamish Rogers and Oliver Summerfield-Ryan with a run out to Ed Cross ably assisted by Oliver. Emu Plains were never in the hunt when it came to Springwood's turn to bat. Springwood passed their score no wicket down in the 25th over. Ed Cross and Jason Kenn the not out batsman with Ed scoring 51 not out and Jason 47 not out. A great effort to keep us at the top of the table. See more
08.01.2022 Playing the new team to the competition Rydall won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on a scorching hot afternoon. Dean Watkins and Mick Lopez started the innings well before Dean was out for 18. Joe Hill came to the wicket and took charge putting on a 60 run partnership with Lopez before both fell together, mick for 19 and Joe for 48. Rydall was joined by Jack Crouch and the 2 took the game away from Phoenix scoring a 82 run partnership. Jack was out for 27 and Del c...ontinued his fine innings before he was out off the the last ball of the innings for 72. That saw the score go to 5-192. Chasing a formidable target Scott Filmer and Ben Crouch grabbed all wickets to see toe opposition 3 for 20 early. Wickets continued to fall with Matt Johnston taking 3 and Dean Watkins 2 to see the score 8-70. Some late hitting saw the score reach 9-126 off their allotted overs. A big win to 1st grade. Well done boys!! Thank you to the supporters who braved the heat.
07.01.2022 Under 13 Rogers travelled to Lapstone Oval to play Glenbrook Blaxland - Hazlewood. Winning the toss, Glenbrook was sent into bat. With a display of tight bowling they were all out for 8/77, with 7 bowlers getting amongst the wickets. Standouts included Jack Leahey 2 for 9 off 4.0 overs and Lachlan Todd with 1 for 1 off 2.0 overs (inc. wicket maiden). Going into bat we chased down their total in 16th over scoring 2/79. Nathan Jenkins scoring 36*/35 and Alexander Hovelmann scoring 21*/27. With a well deserved man of the match going to Max Leach.
06.01.2022 Rd.12 4th grade Springwood 4th grade made their way back into the winners circle today with a commanding 93 run victory over Cranebrook at Lomatia. Batting first we enjoyed a very solid 53 run opening partnership in tricky conditions. Ed Cross and Adam Mallas were both very circumspect for the first 15 overs which was good batting facing some good opening spells from the Cranbrookians. Mallas was the first to go skying a catch to mid on, and then announced his retirement from... batting on turf this season. A few wickets later and we saw Hamish Rogers and Ewan Rogers come together at the crease, and these two dominated the bowling with 73 runs coming in the final 10 overs, getting us to a very respectable score of 6/166. A very good partnership really nailing our innings for us. Cranebrook came out to bat and really were never in the hunt. Peter Crouch and Matt Hunt opened the bowling and were brilliant yet again. The first wicket though was brilliance at cover from Jack Crouch who dived to stop a strong drive, regathered and fired the ball to the keeper Whitey, forcing a very smart runout. Both opening bowlers took regular wickets after the runout and by the time they had got through their overs, the Cranbrookians were 7 fa not much. Cranebrook were 8/40 at drinks with a mountain to climb. Jack Crouch and ‘Big Boy’ (brothers love name) Skip Nathan Hunt were also superb and finished off the innings. Ewan Rogers took an absolute speccie on the boundary to secure the last wicket, running close to 20 metres and diving to take the catch on the boundary. Great win for the team, and need to continue that form. Springwood 6/166 (H. Rogers 42, E. Rogers 39, E. Cross 33, A. Mallas 24) Def Cranebrook 73 (M. Hunt 3/15, P. Crouch 3/18, J. Crouch 2/24, N. Hunt 1/16)
04.01.2022 Round 13 saw 9th Grade take on Emu Plains at Knapsack Park on a scorching hot afternoon. Emu won the toss and chose to bat - which is what we wanted too! Emu can out looking to score quickly but some tight bowling by openers Oliver Jenkins and Zach Sampson kept the pressure on - and Zach got the first wicket caught behind by Andrew Hutch. First change bowlers Max Jackson and Glenn Jackson kept the pressure on and Max snared 3 quick wickets including a caught and bowled and 2 ...caught behind by Hutch & Glenn snared one too. We had trouble dismissing the Emu Captain Darren Taylor who kept the scoreboard ticking over and Emu went to drinks 5/96. Isaac Selwood bowled a few overs and really restricted the scoring and Liam Campbell-Jubb came on with his leggies and weaved his magic - with 2 stumpings to Hutch and a catch to Ollie Jenkins to grab Taylor and also one to Max Jackson. Ollie finished off the innings, dismissing the last batsmen in the 33rd over - Emu all out for 146. Best bowling - Liam Campbell-Jubb 4/30 from 7, Max Jackson 3/24 from 4, Glenn Jackson 1/14 from 5, Ollie Jenkins 1/18 from 5.1, Zach Sampson 1/37 from 6. Fielding - Andrew Hutch (w/k) 3 catches & 2 stumpings, Max Jackson 2 catches & one to Ollie Jenkins. Springwood started off positively with openers Stewart Golder & Andrew Hutch, with Stewey showing his intentions early, striking some hard balls, including a 3rd ball boundary and later and awesome 6. However he rode his luck and snicked one through to the keeper for 12. Glenn Jackson came in and was looking ominous but then skied on which went behind to the keeper - dismissed for 8 - we were 2/54. Alex Wright then came to the wicket and after a couple early chances, took to the Emu bowling and punished any bad balls. Hutch and Alex put on another 13 before Hutch was out attempting to put a full ball over mid wicket and completing missing the ball! Max Jackson came in and kept the pressure up with an early 6 & another boundary before being dismissed for 14. We lost several more wickets for not many runs but Alex kept going, and he passed his half century with a magnificent 6 over mid wicket. He was dismissed shortly after again going after the bowling. Things began to look a bit tight as we lost a couple more wickets - we were 8/139 when Ollie Jenkins came to the crease - and the bowler bowled a full toss which Ollie turned through square leg for a magnificent 6 - 7 runs scored and the match won - 8/147 in the 31st over. A great win lads. See more
